I really wanted to drop my car off but I don't have a ride to get home or go back so I decided to go with someone closer but didn't like his approach or explanation on things. They're either lying to me or are trying to sell you a lemon…read more Steve, the owner, told me that my car needed the engine replaced since the head gasket had cracked and oil leaked to the engine. He gave me a quote of $3,000+ to replace the engine. However, he recommended that I junk the car. He said he'd give me $350 for it and would haul it to the junk yard. I agreed, thinking the car wasn't worth another few thousand dollars since I had already put in over $1,000 at his shop. That was a few months ago. Today I drove by and saw the same car for sale. I stopped in and asked him how much he wanted for it. He told me, "Whatever I can get." The point of the story is that this guy either lied to me or he's trying to sell a hunk of junk. Steve and his shop are not trustworthy. Avoid them.

Our daughter, who was familiar with the Athens area (she graduated from Ohio U.) told me about Sundown Garage. We quickly got a hotel room ( it was Father's Day' so not much was open). Will drive me back to our hotel, stopping at a grocery store on the way back to our hotel so we would have some food. The next day he picked me up and drove me down to Athens to pick up my car. This is the kind of service you hope for in our country, but is so rare. I thought the cost of the repairs was more than reasonable. I have always liked Athens (I grew up in Youngstown, but moved 8 times with my jobs) and if I was beginning retirement I might consider moving here, but I am almost 78. An odd place to be sure, but useful under the right circumstances…read more They sell new and used hubcaps and wheels. They will even have used tires as well. If you need to match a wheel or hubcap for your older car and don't want to spend a fortune, this place is worth a look or two. Every tire, wheel and hubcap is used once you put it on the car, so there is no need to buy new especially when it might stand out like a sore thumb against your other used ones. Or perhaps you got a flat and want to save a few bucks on a replacement because you are going to replace them all in a few thousand miles or you hit a tight spot financially. Don't be shy and don't be ashamed. This is a great service that recycles useful items that would otherwise end up on a trash heap.

Not satisfied to just take a chunk of tire, that greedy pot hole felt the need to take a chunk of aluminum rim to go with it. It took some investigation work and calling around town but this is the place that had my replacement rim for the Saab. Even a 20 year old aluminum rim from Sweden was not too obscure of a wheel for these guys. If you ever find yourself in a similar predicament this should be one of the first calls you make.
