If I could give 0 stars I would!
I had responded to their Facebook ad that was for $49 maintenance call for the sliding door. When I asked through the chat how much it would be for the door sticking, the response was "maybe I'll come to check it without charge."
I had one tech call and ask what the problem was and then was contacted by a second tech who didn't seem to know that the first tech had already called me.
The first one came about 45 minutes later and started working. Right away he asked me if I had a stepstool because he couldn't reach the top of the slider. This should be equipment that is always provided by the company, not the homeowner. I didn't have a stepstool and the best I had was my kitchen bar stool.
The tech then found that the doors would be too heavy so needed to call out a second person to help him. I don't think he actually worked for their company. The first tech had asked me if I wanted a new door handle for the slider, and at first I had said no, but then thought that there would be a nice quality handle installed along with a new lock and anything else needed. He said it would be $89 with that and what needed to be done with the door.
He left for about 45 minutes and then came back with the second person. He brought a very cheap handle for the slider that is chipped in several places and only needed to be attached with two screws. I looked up the handle at the Home stores and it costs is $15. I thought that with the $49 service fee, plus the handle that would make sense to be the $89.
As they were working they found that they didn't have a screw that they needed and so they left for another 45 minutes. These techs should have screws and stuff needed with them when they come for the call.
When they came back, they took off the doors. At no point did they ever give me an estimate, tell me what they found, what they were doing, or given the option to decide if I wanted the work done. They proceeded to replace the wheels for the track. They moved around furniture on our lanai to put the door down as they are working on things. Nothing was put under the door to protect it. They were also using the stool that he had asked to use, and was using it to hold tools.
They got finished working, and at this point had been at the house from start to finish over four hours. Again, he never gave me an estimate or told me what the cost would be, so I was assuming it was the $89 he mentioned previously. He told me that it would be over $300 for the door plus the $89 for the handle. I immediately raised a concern with him that that was never communicated, and frankly, I would not have moved ahead with doing the work at that cost. He said that he could do the handle for $59. Again, this is a cheap handle, that has paint chipped on it already, and only needed two screws. That is a rip off, in and of itself. He said that if I paid him in cash or through Zelle, it would be cheaper. He said he needed to pay the other guy, so the price was justified. He agreed several times that he had made a mistake and had not communicated with me what he was doing and what the price would be. I was still under the impression that this was part of the special that was placed on Facebook and still had the comment from this chat that they would come out and check it free of charge. He ended up taking a little bit off but still having to pay over $300. So to get him out of my house I put it on my credit card. I didn't feel safe at that point.
After he left, I found multiple things that concern me, and are not professional .
1. The stool that he used and put tools on now has a bunch of scratches on the top of it that were not there before. If the company knows that height can be a challenge, that should be a piece of equipment that is brought with the tech.
2. The handle that was installed already has paint chipped on it.
3. They moved all the furniture on the lanai and then afterwards did not put it back how it was. This includes chairs, the sofa, a table and two mats. They also left trash outside on my lanai.
4. The sliding door because of being put down on the concrete has scratches and roughness all over it.
5. I have two inside rugs by the slider door, and they now have dark stains all over them. If the techs knew that it would be a mess, they should have moved those out of the way. I now need to buy two new mats.
I feel like I was very much taken advantage of. The only amount that he had told me the whole time was that $89. I should not be having to pay hundreds more, and be put on the spot when I didn't approve that cost.
I will be following up with my credit card company and a lawyer, as the company refuses to make this right. read more
