We were told nothing could be found AND PUT US BACK ON THE ROAD WITH A BROKEN AXLE. I've been in the car world for many years and I am not a dummy. The repair professionals at a reputable repair shop were disgusted that this incredibly damaged vehicle was given a gold star for safety by Newberg Tire and the brake job 2.0 (this time with correct parts!) plus many hours and other replacement parts later cost $2300+. Clearly oblivious (uncaring?) to the risk of driving 5 children in a car with a broken axle up a large hill to work in Portland and many hundreds of highway miles per week, Steve nickeled and dimed us over "the wear and tear on the (incorrect) brake pads" in negotiating a reasonable offer for the glaring lawsuit risk that is their shoddy work. He didn't return phone calls and deflected like a pro when asked how this oversight was both allowed and defended in his business. I'm not typically an angry review writer, but my family of mechanics would NEVER conduct their business this way.

On my way to work about a month ago, I was driving on I-205 S in a torrential downpour. It was…read moreearly, and very dark. Suddenly, I hear a horrible sound and seems to be coming from MY vehicle! It sounded like something had gotten caught underneath my engine and was dragging along the concrete. I pulled over to investigate, and from what I could see in the dark and rain, it looked like the lower engine cover (skid plate) had come loose while I was driving and had been dragging. This cover was DESTROYED. At this point, I'm thinking "well, it's 5AM, and I'm halfway to work. I can drive home and destroy this thing more, or drive to work and destroy this thing more". I went to work. After making some calls, I finally got in touch with Tyler's Automotive. I explained the situation, and they said they could help me out. I drove over on my lunch break (scraping all the way), and they were able to take the skid plate off. It was in PIECES. They said they could order the part, and that they'd call me with a quote later on. I got the quote, and we made an appointment for a couple days later. I had made an appointment for 11AM, and arrived 5 minutes beforehand (again on my lunch break). They took my keys, and someone went out and started my car. It sat there idling for about 15 minutes before anyone got in it and drove it into the garage. All told, it took 45 minutes and $240, but the skid plate was replaced. I was thankful they could take care of everything, and grateful to have my vehicle back in action. I gave 4 stars due to not being taken care of at the scheduled appointment time. Since I only get 30 minutes for my lunch break, I needed this to be taken care of quickly, and I had been told they could do it in less than 30 minutes. That being said, I'd still recommend this shop. They were friendly and helpful, and they did the job quickly once they started.

After doing some research, I decided to give Lum's GMC a try for my engine recall, and I am so glad I did. From the very beginning, my service advisor, Shaun, was absolutely outstanding. His communication was excellent, he kept me informed throughout the entire process, and I genuinely felt like my vehicle was in good hands. Customer service like his is hard to find, and he made a stressful situation much easier. I do want to mention that after the new engine was installed, my Escalade ended up stranded on the side of the road because a technician had accidentally forgotten to reconnect a clamp on a reservoir. While that was certainly frustrating, what truly impressed me was how Lum's handled the situation. I called and left a message, and their team immediately stepped up. They arranged to have my vehicle towed back to the shop on a Saturday, quickly diagnosed and corrected the issue, and then went above and beyond by personally delivering my vehicle back to me because of the inconvenience. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but a company's true character is shown by how they respond when something goes wrong. Lum's GMC handled it with professionalism, accountability, and genuine care. Because of Shaun and the way the entire team took ownership of the situation, I have complete confidence in bringing my Cadillac back for future service.
