What I found when I walked in. Who left their water bottle?

Staff was pleasant but the place is old. I walked in & found an empty water bottle.in my sink. I moved the hangers and a dead moth fell out, i grabbed tissue from the bathroom and it popped off. The shower looks dirty, the toilet water looked misty like it still had cleaning product in it. Also there are so many men that stay here that work in oil but they've been creepy. If you're a female or have kids be careful. This place is cringe.

Though the average 'stars' for the Stevens Inn is lower than our rating, I wonder what criteria people use? We have stayed at a number of motels on our recent trip, and though the Stevens Inn might not be our top experience, it was very comparable. The shower was especially modern, spacious, and enjoyable. The trio of pillows was a bit strange, but they sufficed, and we slept fine. We ate at the restaurant, too, and had a good meal. Perhaps we were lucky, or perhaps the negative reviews are too old to reflect the current situation. But we had a pleasant stay with decent accommodations. Perhaps the complaints were from the numerous construction workers staying at the Stevens Inn who are working a major and long-term project on U.S. 285. Working outside in fields and dirt all day, they might be carrying an assortment of critters in their clothes, boots, and gear. For someone visiting the Carlsbad Caverns, the Stevens Inn was reasonably priced and fairly convenient to the park. If we did have a complaint, it would be for the heavy traffic on Canal St. But the rooms were away from the street, so we were not disturbed by street noise. Overall, our stay was quiet, pleasant, and cost effective. We were quite pleased.

High ceilings, fridge AND microwave, not too shabby

Probably since it's the next closest city to Carlsbad Caverns, the prices were pretty high for just a one night stay. that being said, the hotel wasn't bad at all, beds were queen size i think, which is better than most 2 bed hotel rooms. They included a fridge and microwave so that was pretty handy. The hotels are a bit older but nothing that was unsettling. Came with free hot breakfast, your normal stuff, i.e. eggs, sausage, oatmeal, etc. If you're heading to Carlsbad Caverns, I would recommend this hotel, it's about 30 minutes away from the caverns and it's really not that bad, service was pretty decent, and it's a good night's sleep.

A tan colored pole IN the parking spot. No high vis tape or colors and hard to see at night.

They have poles two feet off the ground and hard to see IN the parking spots. This is like a booby trap to lure you into the parking spot then BAM now you have a $600 dent on your bumper.

So I have to stay in this shit hole for work. Our company stays in the back in the 400's and everyday I come home there is a new friend waiting on me. After the first I thought hummm, maybe it came in through the door while I was bringing things in. After the 3rd I noticed the trend. This place is a dump... save yourself the trouble and pull up a slab of cardboard and plop down next to the homeless folks outside of Wal-Mart. I wouldn't recommend this place if it were the last place on God's green earth!

Are you kidding? GROSS.

Great salad bar - fresh veggies. Ribeye was excellent as well as the Alfredo with Chicken.

We planned a last minute trip to Carlsbad Caverns and were lucky enough to book a last minute room at the Stevens Inn.

Keeping the 5 star status going!…read more Arrived on a Friday evening and stayed until Sunday morning. Staff was nothing but polite, considerate, and helpful. They stuck our 5 year old's name on customer of the day and allowed her to spin the prize wheel each day we stayed. She was thrilled to win a koozie. Hotel lobby was clean and they had candy, water bottles, and fresh cookies out for guests to enjoy. You could borrow an appliance for your room if needed. There was a little food pantry stocked to the brim if you needed a quick snack or forgot to pack something. Yogurt, apples, oranges, coffee, water, and hot cocoa were all free. Our room was clean and tidy. It came fully stocked with utensils, dishes, cookware, paper towels, dish soap/dishwasher pods, a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. The hotel was also pet friendly, which was a major plus since we had our two dogs with us. There was a nice little gym section which was connected to the laundry facility and pool. We didn't use the gym or laundry during this stay, but our kids loved the pool. The water was a little cold for my liking, but the kids didn't seem to mind. The area was handicap accessible, clean, and stocked with fresh towels. There was a lovely outdoor patio with heat lamps, tables, and a few grills. Around back, there was a dog walk area stocked with poop bags and a trash can. To my surprise, there were also children's toys-- two cozy coupes, a slide, some scooters, and balance bikes. These people really have it together! If we ever go back to Carlsbad, I'd stay there again!

The room was extremely clean, fresh, and well kept. You could tell the staff really cared about maintaining the property. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The pool area was also really nice! We went swimming after the sun went down and it was perfect. The pool stays open until 10 PM, so definitely take advantage of a night swim if you stay here. Breakfast was good too.. the food was fresh, hot, and constantly stocked. They also put out popcorn in the evenings, which the kids absolutely loved. Overall, this was a really comfortable and enjoyable stay and we would definitely come back.

This TownePlace was okay, with a few frustrating caveats…read more The room was clean and spacious, fixtures and furniture were about what you'd expect for this price point. The property had plenty of parking and location was good if you're looking to visit Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains. No issues with wifi or hvac, and staff were friendly at check in. However, their system for water is pretty janky; they have free bottles in a fridge at the snack shop (next to bottles you have to pay for, so choose wisely!). No water filling stations to be had, one was broken. And one ice machine for the entire property. Oof. And then the gym was a let down, so much space but most of it left empty. Only one lonely bench next to the dumbbells, and then come cardio equipment lining another wall. That was it. Not a lot of options in this area but I'd say it's worth a look around.

There is no hot tub. 2. No blankets in the closets. They need to be requested at the front desk. 3. The breakfast area ran out of plain oatmeal. Seems like an easily solvable problem in an area with many grocery stores. 4. One of the AC units was quite loud. 5. No sheets or pillows for the sofa bed anywhere in the unit. Had to be requested at the front desk. I did quite like the following: 1. Separate thermostats for the main room and two bedrooms. 2. King beds were quite comfortable. 3. Basic kitchen items available from the front desk. 4. Really nice outdoor grills available if you want to have a cookout.

However, we liked staying here and would again if back in the Carlsbad area. My partner and I stayed in Carlsbad for a few days to do some hiking around the area. We checked in during the late evening on a Saturday after some hiking and driving from Texas, and we were warmly greeted by the employee at the front desk. Check in was an easy process, with getting our key cards soon after. Plus, we loved how the hotel went all out with the Halloween decorations. Gotta love that. Our room was comfortable for the most part. AC was working, TV had a good amount of channels, including HBO, there was a fridge, coffee maker, toiletries and everything was clean. It had everything we needed. The bed and pillows were a little too firm, which sometimes made it hard to sleep, but not terrible. The amenities are good at this hotel. There's an outdoor pool, gym with filtered water, business center area and the best part, was the breakfast that's included with your stay. We were impressed with the quiche, frittatas and soufflés they made versus the powdered eggs that you can find at other hotels that serve a continental breakfast. Coffee was also good. It was nice to stay somewhere that offered a delicious breakfast. We enjoyed our stay here, from the friendly staff to the amenities, it was not a bad stay at all. I'd recommend if you're looking for lodging in the Carlsbad town.
