I've only been in here once (when I was checking out the awesome expo of local boutiques in this building), but will be back again. The comic book landscape is one which hasn't completely been taken over by Corporations so you can still get little family businesses like this one around the 585 and other regions, which is pretty delightful if you ask me.

It's alleged that Jeff W. is partial owner, so I know the staff knows their stuff, but having them treat my elderly mother and client so well demonstrates the level these guys play at. 100% better than Larger than Life. This shop is for the "true believers" and "Constant Readers," not just the "Big Bang Theory" popular kids. They are also pretty no-nonsense as in you are not going to find their walls filled with new comics and those 1:100 variants, but you will find boxes and boxes of back issues. They do have some new weekly issues, but really focus on the older stuff. And they have some pretty reasonable prices. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and can answer almost anything you have a question for.

On Saturday, August 12th from 7 to 9 pm a reception will be held for the opening of a new art exhibition at the Art Association of Oswego. The exhibition, by Suzanne Gaffney Beason, is titled My Life in Comics / My Life in Art. Part of the show is a display of Ms. Beason's personal collection of original drawings by well-known comic artists from her days at Marvel Comics, where she was assistant editor to high-profile comics such as Spider-Man and X-Men. Also on exhibit will be original prints and drawings from her current work as a graduate student in SUNY Oswego's Master of Arts program in Studio Arts. This includes both figurative work and highly abstract explorations of color, shape and texture. According to the Art Association's exhibition coordinator Bill DeMott, "As an undergraduate at SUNY Oswego in the 80's, Suzanne got a fantastic education, one that took her to New York City to work for the likes of Robert Blackburns' Printmaking Workshop NYC, Marvel Comics, Reader's Digest, Pearson Education and eventually DC Comics. But when DC moved to California, she made the brave decision to return to Oswego to pursue her first love, fine arts. Her current work is stunning and in her new art one can see all the knowledge gained from years of working with figures and bold abstractions. We welcome Suzanne and her husband Kirk to this community. Their energy and enthusiasm for art--and for music--are truly refreshing." The reception for this exhibition is free and open to the public.
