Steve's fixtures seem nice enough, but their service is incredibly poor and diminishes anything positive one can say about this establishment. Their prices are ridiculously high and it is clear that he caters to the "Deep Pocketed" of Montecito. Trisha, the showroom manager, is pompous and rude. She sauntered around the showroom like some Diva, with her left hand in the air pointing out each piece with her pinky finger. Callsign "Bizarre." There was an upscale Mercedes in their tight parking lot, maybe her disdain was because I drove up in my son's Prius (Front Bumper Duct Taped)? Well Dahling, hoping to give them the benefit of the doubt I chalked this up to her "Being off her medication." When I attempted to place an order the next day, Trisha already "Had a 100 piece order" and could not be bothered to spare 30 seconds to answer a simple question. She was frantic, apoplectic! Ironic since their web site professes an "Unwavering dedication to customer service!" There are numerous places in Cali that weld similar pieces of equal quality and at a fraction of the cost. Wanted to buy lighting for our Spanish revival home so went to visit our local Spanish lighting specialist in Santa. Barbara. We found the sconces we wanted in his showroom. There was a price tag clearly showing the price. We decided to order as everything is hand made and has approx a 3 month delivery window. Thinking we would need to make a deposit for a custom order, but oh no. We needed to fully pay up front and the price was over 20% more than the price tag clearly stated on the light. Steven the owner actually came into the showroom so I could asked why they weren't honoring the price clearly stated on the light fixture. His response was that they hadn't got around to changing the price in the showroom because they had been busy changing the website first. We ordered our fixtures and this will be my first and last time I will ever do business with this establishment. I am a retailer and know that the respectful way of doing business is honoring the price labeled on a product. So very disappointed and hope Mr Handelman will realize that his decision not to honor his price tags will forever affect his business. read more

I stopped in recently to select a couple of wall sconces for our downstairs upgrade. I have bought lights from SHS several times before and we are always happy with the quality, the attention to detail, and the Spanish design . I selected a set that was on sale as I liked the look but when I took them home, the hole for the light box was mounted higher than a typical wall sconce should be. It was really at outdoor height and the sconces were too high on the wall to do them justice. I brought them back and Trisha looked at the picture of the wall and quickly said that with the wall box being that high, I needed to look for a different mount. She walked thru and helped me find the ones in stock that would work. I fell in love with a set she said would normally be hung outdoors. At that time, the owner came in and Trisha discussed with him as well. Both of them could not have been more helpful! Since I didn't want clear glass, Tricia showed me some options, and they agreed to replace the clear with mica in almond color. The results were amazing. Can't wait to hang them when the electrician is available. Super helpful owner and manager. Trish is knows her product line really well. If you want a focal point for your room, I highly recommend SHS. Made to last and they truly have a beautiful selection of upper ended light fixtures. read more

We brought some exterior sconces here to be refurbished for a project and the whole process was seamless! We pulled over by this man's shop due the fact my son was nauseous suddenly and hoped a walk would help. He said he had to throw up so my husband walked him somewhere to safely let him throw up. He was crying. The owner stuck his anti science maskless face into the car window next to my special needs kid with a heart condition with severe asthma and said vile things. I explained why we were there and he said so? I will give you five minutes. Then continued to spew vile hate at us with no mask. Boycott this business. read more

Steven Handelman was strongly recommended by a friend when they heard were were having a hard time finding fixtures for our Spanish/Mediterranean home my wife and I are remodeling. We found fixtures for every room of the house at Handelman's. We just picked up our order for five fixtures and couldn't be more pleased with the workmanship. The finish is just as we were expecting and the order was ready when promised, no unpleasant surprises. We will be going back to order a fireplace screen. Highly recommend if you want California-built Spanish or European-style fixtures. We visited Handelman's shop in Santa Barbara to see the fixtures first hand, we just wish they had a shop in the San Diego area. We looked all over the San Diego and Los Angeles areas for fixtures to no avail, this was a great discovery. I really appreciated the way all the prices and upgrades are listed on the website and the pricing is the same to everyone, contractors, decorators, and homeowners (like us) alike. If it's a relatively large order as ours was, there is a 10% discount. All businesses should be run this way. Their staff is extremely professional. The client list is equally impressive with many high end hotels and country clubs included. Can't recommend more highly. read more
