I first went to this dermatologist almost 3 years ago and have been so emotionally scared about getting medical care since seeing him that I was reluctant that I would ever recover from the pain and habitual problem I was having. He'd blame me for what I was doing instead of listening to why I was doing it and taking care of the underlying issue. I got better insurance and saw a wonderful doctor here in Kyle, TX who took one look at my face and my fear and told me, he was gonna take care of me. It's been 3 days since I've seen him and my skin feels appreciatively better for the first time in 3 years. Dr Rasmussen has an arrogant disposition, doesn't listen fully to what's happening and cares more about his cosmetic procedure patients than helping folks on insurance who are their only option. I'm so sorry if you have to see this doctor, he's awful. I sadly had to give him one star, no star is not an option. read more

Dr. Rasmussen was recommended by a friend of mine. I'd been to two other Dermatologists this past year for a few minor issues. The first one was OK, but I'd waited 29 minutes on hold before I was able to get a person to make an appointment. When I called the next day about a follow-up issue, I was on hold 10 minutes before I hung up and just drove over and demanded to see the doctor (they let me in to see herabout 15 minutes later). I never went back. The second one I went to see a few months later wanted to charge an additional $50 for removing a small spot. Each additional spot was only $15 extra and of course this wasn't covered by insurance. I didn't bother getting the small spots removed and never went back. It took a while to get an appointment with Dr. Rasmussen but it was worth the wait. The first thing he did was apologize for being a few minutes late. He did a thorough exam and prescribed a few items that I'll be using. He also took enough time to discuss the issues I went to see him about. I love the fact that he gave me his own extension as well as a direct line to the scheduling department. He also has a secure portal, which is my favorite (and easiest) way to to contact the doctor directly. I'm very pleased and will be using him as my Dermatologist from now on. read more

Been going to him for many years. I had previously had a Leiomyosarcoma back in 2003 and was successfully treated at MD Anderson. In 2024 I went to him because of a lesion on my leg and I asked specifically whether it could be a Leiomyosarcoma. He looked at it and said it was benign, and didn't spend very much time with me. He may have been busy that day. Fast forward to this summer and I went to another Austin Regional Clinic dermatologist, Dr. Campa, because the lesion was throbbing. She immediately did a biopsy and it was, indeed, a Leiomyosarcoma. In the 15 months between when Dr. Rasmussen told me the lesion was benign and when it was diagnosed as a Leiomyosarcoma, the lesion grew and metastasized. Surgery at MD Anderson was on Nov 4, 2025. They had to take out an 8cm x 8cm chunk out of my leg. I've been told the tumor will likely return in a couple years. If it comes back in my lungs or kidneys, I will be facing chemotherapy and major cancer treatment. read more

Saw Dr. Rasmussen 3 months ago through ARC for a routine mole removal. I was in and out in under 10 minutes which is great, but two issues left me disappointed. First, I was shocked to get a bill for $394. My insurance would only pay $127 of that so I'm on the hook for $267. I had previously had this exact procedure done by a different dermatologist through ARC and it was half that so that's what I was expecting. Spent a long time on the phone with ARC to find out that it's $226 for the procedure and $168 for the "provider visit", while on my previous visit the Dr. only billed one of those, hence the difference in cost. It blows my mind that 10 minutes of Dr. Rasmussen's time could cost that much. Not all of us have perfect insurance or are independently wealthy. Second, I was left with a noticeable scar on my face. That's a risk that I took so this is only a secondary issue, but still, ideally there would be no scar. read more

I go to Austin Regional clinic in N. Austin. I'd seen my dermatologist a couple of times already in the past year. I had a desire to get rid of some red pigment on my skin. She recommended Dr. Rasmussen for his elective services. I was excited to see him to get a consultation on the type of laser treatment he'd recommend, although I do go to another place for lasers as I pay an annual fee for better pricing. I was initially surprised that when I signed in, they ask for my insurance and charged me. The same as when I go to my doctor. I'm use to only using insurance for health issues, not elective services. During my visit, he was very pleasant along with the staff. I scheduled my IPL treatments. Not long after, I got a bill, my insurance paid on some and they were charging me more. This was close to $300.00 for an ipl consultation. As an active person who gets laser treatments at various places in Austin, I've never paid a consultation fee for any laser service. I canceled my treatment with him, I'm disturbed since I've already been seeing my regular derm and paying on that. I called up there. An excellent doctor. Doesn't tiptoe through the tulips. Direct and tells you facts, not fiction. My longtime dermatologist, who is considered one of the finest in the country, is approaching retirement and I asked to be referred to Dr. Rasmussen in preparation. Due to HIPAA and Yelp restrictions I can't go into details, but he was spot on and gave me exact information in almost an instant. He made recommendations which turned out to be perfect. Made an appointment with Dr. Rassmussen that took a month and half to schedule, so I assumed since this dermatologist is so sought after and highly rated that he must be pretty good. I have difficult skin thats only clear about 60% of the time, despite ridding myself of food allergies, exercising 5 days a week and eating a super healthy organic diet, I went to Dr. Rassmussen because after all these years I wanted a professional to get down to the bottom of my skin mysteries. The atmosphere in the office is a bit pretentious, perhaps they were less than kind to me since I'm in my twenties and don't dress like a westlake wife? Who knows. The Dr. came in after waiting 10 minutes, literally looked at my skin- which I may add isn't bad, simply a bit uneven in places- and within 30 seconds gave me a Retin-A prescription, and a 1980's looking handout on "What is Acne?". Literally asked me zero questions about products I had used, lifestyle habits, sleep, etc. Things normal doctors are supposed to ask in figuring out your skin problems. Has what Dr. Rassmussen given me worked? No. If I wanted to schedule an appt that only kind of treated my skin problems and only kind of was a real appointment, I would have scheduled that. I was hoping I could get a Dermatologist that would sit me down, recommend various products, examine my skin and spend an iota of time with me. I was prepared to spend big $$$ getting my skin treated and be happy doing that, if there were real results. Well good news, they didn't charge me very much $ bad news, they gave me a half assed appointment. I see a number of reviews listed here that are poorly rated as well and personalized apology letters, my advice to you Dr. Rassmussen is to start focusing on the quality of service you give your patients and reduce the quantity of appointments you book. I was actually surprised by the number of 5 star reviews here. I had a similar experience to the others that posted 1 star reviews. I am classic melanoma-in-waiting case (fair skin, lots of moles, family history of skin cancer), and while I avoid the sun and practically bathe in sunscreen, I'm still at high risk. I hadn't been to the dermatologist in 3 years, and my mom was bugging me about getting a full-body skin check (she just had her 7th tumor removed from her face). Let me be honest - getting a full body skin check is not a fun experience. It's embarrassing, especially with a new doctor, because you're stripping down to your underwear and having your body poked at. So it's bad enough, but a good doctor can make you feel more at ease. Dr. Rasmussen did not. Instead, I felt like I was not attractive enough to be there. From the minute I entered that place, I was bombarded by advertising on expensive procedures that could make me prettier and more attractive. The doctor spent more time examining the dandruff on my hairline than examining my moles. He said he subscribed to the philosophy of cutting off moles when it's absolutely necessary, not just because something sort-of looks bad. I'd rather have some scars and know I DON'T HAVE CANCER than maintain Dr. Rasmussen's standard of beauty and get melanoma. I gave him two stars instead of one because he prescribed me dandruff shampoo that cleared things up right away. But he spent less than 5 minutes on my body check, so I'm looking for another dermatologist who takes my cancer-prevention concerns seriously. read more

I would like to first thank my Dr. Anas Dhaghestani from ARC for referring me to this incredible doctor! I went in to my regular doctor to be checked out and learned that I had a tumor on my thumb. I was referred to this doctor, Steven Rasmussen, MD, immediately, and he worked through his lunch break to remove the tumor. I was horrified. Dr. Rasmussen immediately put me at ease. His office is clean, gorgeous, calming, and safe. His staff is beyond kind. The woman who shot my thumb with the numbing agent was angelic. (IT HURT BAD and she let me yell, I was just freaked out so it all came out in the form of a holllaaaaa for real). Once numbed, Dr. Rasmussen came in and burned the growth off. The smell was horrid. It looked like my thumb had gotten shot at afterwards but it healed in a few weeks after using vaseline every day on it as instructed. I knew exactly what was going on at all times at this place. Dr. R. did such a good job, that nobody would know by looking at my thumb that it once had a deep dime-sized hole in it. Words could never fully express how thankful I am for this operation/service! I really don't understand the ratings here. Dr Rasmussen has NO bedside manner whatsoever. He freaked me out completely. He took ONE look at my scalp, gave me a diagnosis before a biopsy, and was very abrupt and rude. He then proceeded to do a biopsy and told me that I bled a lot. He did not take the time to explain what he was going to do next. The staff such as nurses and office staff are lovely, though. His nurses and assistants are wonderful. I waited a very long time to write this review. My 1st visit to Dr. R. was a Wow experience. Beautiful office, friendly staff and the doctor was very accommodating. Dr R. Was very friendly and thoughtful. I went in for face injections ( Botex etc.) I called back to make a follow-up visit due to some concern , he fixed. The next time I went to see him I stated some concerns and Dr. R. proceeded to inject quickly without prepping or numbing the area like the 1st visit, and he was sticking me with the needle around my cheek area several times and quickly! Don't disagree with the Dr. or he will hurt you. That's what I felt he was doing. Beautiful office, scary place. read more

I was greeted very nicely my the medical assistant. Dr. Rasmussen came in for a few minutes and in the middle of me telling him my symptoms and concerns, he rushed back out and then came back in. I felt like the appointment was very rushed and for the cost of this appointment, I wanted to take my time and state all my concerns. I was a bit upset about that. I'm also a very detailed person so I was trying to write out all the medication instructions and I felt like those were rushed too. Overall, I really didn't like that I was rushed the whole time. Over the course of a year and a half, I visited several dermatologists trying to cure a rash on my hand that was itchy, scaly, and painful, sometimes all at once. I was prescribed numerous medications, treatments, and topical ointments, none of which worked. Various contradictory diagnoses were also provided. Dr. Rasmussen took one look, wrote a prescription, and gave me instructions on how to treat it. Apparently it was a case of eczema. Using the prescribed cream and following his instructions, the rash was gone within two weeks and it hasn't returned. Can't ask for better results than that, especially after so many prior failures! read more

New to the area, dr Rasmussen and his staff made me feel right at home. Not only was the staff compassionate, making me feel at ease, he stitched my "old lady" ear right up, making it good as new. I was greatly disappointed in my visit. I actually had to drive 2 hours to make it to see the dermatologist, because I am from out of town. A friend and I did research on which dermatologist it would be best to visit in Austin, and although EOS Dermatology ranked up there, I couldn't have been more wrong. I actually spent more time waiting to be seen than I was actually seen. I suffer from acne and the doctor just waltzed in, took one look at my face, said here are your options, here are some samples, see you in 6 weeks. He didn't ask me ANY questions about my skin. But he also made a point to embarrass me before I left. I explained to him that I was an esthetician, so he can imagine my desperation and need for my acne to be gone, as other people turn to my guidance for skin care advice. He asked me, "Question: Does RetinA make your skin more sensitive to sunlight?" Thinking, surely this must be a trick question, I responded, "Yes." And be proceeded to say, "No it doesn't. Insert snarky explanation of why. You went to school, you should know that." It was pretty embarrassing for me. The point is, although the rest of his staff are very nice and friendly, no amount of their kindness can make up for the Doctor's obvious disregard for his patients. He is rude, and doesn't seem to give a hoot about anyone else. He just wants to wave his degree in your face. Needless to say, I didn't go back for my 6 week follow up. read more

Dr Rasmusen is an excellent dermatologist who saved my life. He and his wonderful team successfully removed skin cancer from my face! My face matters to me, so when he cut it open and left me to heal with ten stitches, he reassured me I would finally be pretty - jk. He REALLY said he would leave as tiny a scar as possible and that I would STILL be pretty. And he was correct, about the scar, at least. Pretty is subjective. But no one would argue that Dr Rasmussen does good work: the proof is in my face. The scar is SO small, SO barely noticeable, that my friends, family, and coworkers are all impressed. And the cancer was right near my eye! Dr R and team were all incredibly kind to me from biopsy to getting the stitches removed, shared good information with me, and even gave me a little ice pack to help with swelling. I hope to never get skin cancer again, but if I do, I feel comforted that I can go get great care from Dr Rasmussen and his team if needed! This is not towards Dr. R (as I think he's the bomb) but the answering service operator named Felicia. Felicia made it clear under no uncertain circumstances that me being covered in poison ivy warranted a prescription being called in. Even though it was my third time in a year and a half to have a horrific attack and I take huge precautions, the agony of not being able to take it any longer would have to wait until business hours. I feel badly writing but if it was a first visit, I get it, but a doctor I have a standing relationship with who I cannot get to for a legitimate reason saddens me. They make it clear to get ill only during business hours. Or wait: you can come in and visit an after hours doctor who you don't know, pay that fee, the doc diagnose you with what you already know you have THEN they can call in a prescription for you. read more

I saw Dr. Rasmussen for some skin irritation that had lingered for almost a month. As a cash patient without insurance, I did not expect a detailed medical history or a lengthy exam. He briefly looked at my rash, named the problem (not a surprise), and typed out a script. He then explained what to do and asked if I had any questions. From check in to leaving the office was less than 20 minutes. Two days later, I can see that my skin is improving. Although this was admittedly a routine issue, Dr. Rasmussen struck me as friendly, competent and efficient. I would see him again. read more

I have been to multiple dermatologists at Westlake Dermatology and Sanova Dermatology before finding Dr. Rasmussen. He knew right away what it was I was struggling with (the first one to diagnose it) and how to treat it. I looked up his diagnosis after leaving and I am super hopeful that the recommended treatment will work. The other dermatologists were just chalking it up to "redness" and wanted me to spend thousands of dollars on lasers. EVERYONE SHOULD GO THIS GUY AND HE DESERVES A HUGE RAISE. read more

I have been to Dr. Rasmussen twice for medical concerns. Perhaps he has more compassionate/appropriate bedside manner with lucrative cosmetic patients (as I see they give rave reviews), but the way he has made me feel is the worst I've experienced in a medical setting. Another reviewer shared that they felt dismissed and even belittled. I felt the same way. When he spoke to me it was with a tone of "hurry up so we can get out of here". I felt as though I was in his office asking for a free consult or something. He does not ask questions to understand the history or concerns. I felt so uncomfortable/rushed at my first appointment that I forgot to ask about other long standing concerns and had to come back to my "filler" follow-up visit just to ask about the things I should have either been comfortable enough to ask in my first meeting/appointment or that would have come out as he asked for and listened to my history. It was a waste of my time and money, but he got another little appointment out of me and I get the feeling the precious time and money of little filler patients like me is of little concern to him. In all, I recommend medical patients seek treatment elsewhere if they are looking for a provider who will listen and treat with care. Update: While I appreciate the doctor's time in writing a response and apology, I am reminded of very consistent reviews from medical patients and his also consistent written apologies. At this point, I would expect some changes behavior/more meaningful, substantive reaction apart from a generic acknowledgement. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews, but after reading these i have to. first i have lived in Texas most of my life a short time in Vegas then back to Texas. the point in giving that back ground info is that i have had skin problems and medical problems as well. that being said i can not say enough great thing about Dr. R and his staff. the office is very clean and decorated very calming and relaxing with out being cheesy. the whole staff from the front desk to the techs are all very nice and professional. while seeing so many Pt's in one day, i would think at some point every one would be very yeah yeah blah blah. not so here. they are all very up beat and in great moods. they always are informative, and fun with out faking it. the techs have never pushed products on me, nor has any tech or Dr. R made me feel as if i need any thing besides what i have been there for. I feel bad that some people have not had the same experience there as i have. I went in for the first time close to 4ish yrs ago just to try it out. I have never went to another dermatologist since i moved here. nor will i when they are fabulous! they have every thing you want at a Dr's office. great attitudes, great service, they will you plenty of time to talk about your concerns and your not run through like cattle. Growing up in Austin I have visited many different dermatologists in the area and Dr. Rasmussen and his staff are by FAR the best. The staff is friendly, courteous, professional and make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door. The office is modern, very clean, and the environment feels more like a spa than a physician's office. Dr. Rasmussen is the nicest, most personal physician I have ever visited. The first time I went in he patiently listened to the results I wanted and the services I desired, but steered me in another less expensive direction.
