Made moving out a bitch too, during a pandemic, of course. Found an unbelievably nice doorman building, no brokers fee, SAME PRICE when we got down to the lease (EXCLUDING apuzzi's $3,000 brokers fee). He is a self absorbed, greedy, selfish person who intentionally takes advantage of renters, and young renters especially. Do not pay his fee, and go somewhere else! Trust me, the cost is not worth it at all considering what you get and can get. While most landlords and and management we've met have been no fee, bargained on price, been reasonable to work with, etc, these guys will screw your at the drop of a hat. I've been putting off rating this place because I didn't want any bad karma on my part, but here it goes! I called Max about an apartment in Flatbush about a month earlier and he asked me to check back with him periodically for new ones. When I called him back, he told me he had a great apartment, 2 bedroom in Flatbush and that I would definitely like it. When I met him to view the apartment, I did love it and filled out an application and handed over my money order for the application fee. I remember him telling me that I shouldn't have any problems with getting the place, granted that I have good credit. I knew I had good credit, but I wasn't 100% sure and I told him that. After that, his whole tone changed. He said a few more people were going to look at the place and that I should check back with him in a few days to see what the management company says. I called him later that day ( and he called me an apartment stalker) to ask 2 questions. 1. is the place rent stabalized 2. if I could get a 2 year lease. He told me he would ask the management company on Monday and get back to me. I waited until Tuesday to check back in with him and when I did, he only had one of the questions answered. When I asked him about my other question, he started to yell at me, telling me I wasn't serious about getting the apartment and that he was going to refund me my fee because I was being difficult. I wasn't. I told him fine, I'll wait for my check. About an hour later Reed calls me, telling me that the fee was non refundable and that, no, I cannot have my money back. I informed Reed that Max was the one that didn't want to work with me, as I was just asking questions I thought a realtor should know, no fee apartment or not. Reed said he sent my application in and all we had to do was wait for about a week or so to find out if I got the application. This is where things get messy. I signed up for a credit check services, so I would know when the landlord actually checked my credit and within that first week, no such thing happened. I called Reed every day, as I was still looking at apartments, but this apartment was soooo nice and within my price range and no fee I had to have it. After the second week, I knew Reed thought I was just going to stop calling and search for another place. He was foolish. Let me add that 80% of the time he never picked up his phone and would send me text messages. I ended up finding out the management company's info and informing the office manager of everything that happened, to which, after her initial disgust of the situation, phoned Stephen herself to get my application faxed over to the management company. Yes, they never sent my information over to the management company. The management company checked my credit the same day and what do you know, I got the apartment. With no help from Max or Reed. It's really sad, because you get what you pay for, and a lot of places should be no fee, but then you get this crappy service for no reason. Max also had a lawsuit against him for something similar. Shame on the realtors that keep working at this super shady business. If you do end up dealing with them, please know that you can always try to call up the management company and let them know what's going down, as they are paying them in the end. read more

Do NOT trust Apuzzi Realty with your business. In July 2019, we were shown an apartment in Inwood by Apuzzi Realty. I put down a $500 deposit to hold it until the application was received. However, after further researching the property manager, Parkoff Management, and its poor online reviews (history of scamming), we decided *not to go ahead* with submitting the application. I requested my money be returned since I had never even applied and after talking to Dennis, who was somewhat helpful, I spoke with Steven Apuzzi. Mr. Apuzzi spent much time convincing me that that I shouldn't pull out. He claimed that Apuzzi Realty was a reputable and long-established business which would never deal with a dishonest landlord or property manager. In addition, he said that customer reviews were never true. After listening politely, I told Steven Apuzzi that I still wanted my deposit returned. He reluctantly agreed and said he would be in touch. Weeks later, I contacted Dennis (again, pleasant and reassuring) who put me through to S. Apuzzi who agreed to return the money. Then began a 6-week long text message exchange where I continued to ask him to return my money, and he replied by saying that: 1. It's a holiday and he'll get to it 2. Can I confirm my address so he can send a check (this happened 3 different times starting on 9/3 and ending on 9/24 when I reminded him that I still hadn't received it). 3. He'll have his bookkeeper cut a check (twice). 4. Finally, on Oct. 15 he claimed that the check was in the mail and I should confirm when I receive; then he wanted to put a stop on it on Oct. 19 and recut another one, saying it might have gotten lost in the mail. 5. As of this past Monday, even while I told him that he could Venmo me or that we could come to his office, he ignored that and answered my texts: "please confirm when you receive" "I can send a replacement check (said this twice)." We still have not received our $500 back and are now hiring legal services to retrieve it. I do NOT recommend doing business with Apuzzi Realty. They are not only unreliable and untrustworthy, but also manipulative and deceitful. read more

Sal was my realtor in Jersey City and is very professional. He was very accommodating when scheduling to see the apartment and also when I was picking up the keys. The entire process from application to signing the lease took less than a week and it was a positive experience. The only surprise I had was that I had to go to their office in NYC to sign the lease. I didn't know they're based there but I still would have worked with them to get the apartment had I known that. That's really just a head's up to anyone in Jersey City. read more

I worked with Reed to get an apartment he had listed on Street Easy. He was very pleasant to work with and responsive. I checked the place out half expecting to be disappointed because that's usually the case in NYC, but everything was exactly as advertised. He was good about letting me have a bit of time to think about it overnight rather than try and push for an application on the spot which I appreciated. I ended up submitting an application and paid the application fee through Venmo which saved me a trip to the bank to get a certified check. No help at all. The agent was over an hour late to the apartment viewing. The amount of documentation required was the most extensive I've ever experienced when their own application form looks like it came from a scanner from the 70's. The application process took two weeks of back and forths only for them to request a cosigner with just as much documentation in addition to ANOTHER $100 application fee. Every step of the way I was promised a response next day which rarely happened; dragging their feet. And finally the agent took her time in returning my deposit back to me. They appeared professional but it ended up being a catastrophic waste of time. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH STEVEN APUZZI REALTY Everything that all these glowing reviews say about Jeff Natch is true. He is a lovely man and an excellent Realtor. But it's not worth it to work with him because his boss, Steven Apuzzi, is a first class asshole, and a crook. Here's what happened - We saw an apartment on craig's list, and called Jeff. Saw the apartment, liked it, submitted an application and guarantor, were approved. We signed the lease and gave Jeff first and last months rent and his fee in the form of cashier's checks. He gave us a receipt. End of story, right? The next day, I got a call from a branch of my bank. Someone had found one of my cashier's checks on the street. I called Jeff and he told me that Steven had lost our checks. LITERALLY DROPPED OUR MONEY ON THE STREET in midtown east. The thing about cashier's checks is, they are basically cash, which is why landlords and Realtors want them. You can't cancel them. You can't get the money back unless no one cashes them after three months. So I called Steven, I told him that while legally, we had paid him and had a receipt and were under no obligation to pay him again, we were nice folks and would be happy to give him the check that was found. We would also be happy to sign something saying that we would re-issue him the second check in three months when we got the money back if no one cashed it. In the meantime, he would need to pay the landlord and get us into the apartment, as he was legally obligated to do. He freaked out and YELLED AT ME FOR FIVE MINUTES and called me some pretty nasty things. He threatened to rip up our lease and checks, and rent the apartment to someone else, which is of course, ILLEGAL. He then hung up on me. It was only after several more rounds of extremely unpleasant, threatening phone calls and after we threatened to go straight to the landlord and present our lease and receipt (leaving him out the entire amount and probably losing him his contract with that landlord), to lodge a complaint with the Realtor's association, and to sue him, that he finally decided to "be a nice guy" and sleazily proposed to do exactly what we suggested all along. He did not apologize, or offer to refund our fee. Jeff Natch is a sweet guy, and an excellent Realtor. But his boss, Steven Apuzzi, is NOT TO BE TRUSTED. He is a mean, lying, unethical, unprofessional jerk, and you should NOT TAKE THE RISK OF DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM. read more

My husband and I had the BEST experience with Apuzzi Realty. After seeing apartments with several brokers from other companies, we were getting extremely frustrated by their poor listening skills and bad attitudes, as is pretty typical with cut-throat NYC brokers. When I called Reed Wrisley with Apuzzi, needless to say, I was pretty beat down. REED WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! He was straight-forward and honest- not gimicky and pushy like all of my other interactions with brokers. We signed on the second apartment he showed us and couldn't be happier. Let me just start off by saying I don't write reviews - check my profile, this is the first one. I've lived in NY for almost 7 years. Renting apartments is THE WORST. We came across an apartment on Trulia, inquired, and we set up a time to meet Reed to view it. It wasn't the one so we parted ways and went to 16 handles to drown our woes in some fro yo. Well, my phone was on silent so I had missed about 2 calls from Reed. I finally answered and he said he had another one right around the corner that he just found out about. We met up again, (this is all in about 30 minutes, btw) and FELL. IN. LOVE. This apartment was the one we had been looking for, without even knowing it. Reed was amazing and helped us every step of the way. I highly HIGHLY recommend Reed and the Steven Apuzzi Realty team. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Had an excellent experience working with Reed! I landed a great 1 bedroom in the Lower East Side that I'm happy to come home to every night. Throughout the process, Reed wasn't pushy at all and gave me ample time to decide on signing. I actually saw the apartment in a non polished state (old looking hardwood and the bathroom looking a little less than ideal) but he assured me the management company was really great and was going to get the place cleaned/prepped well for my move in. I actually assumed they weren't going to do much, but on my move in date, the place looked incredible. I was greeted with brand new looking floors, a great bathroom, and a nice little move in basket. He was definitely right about this management company, as they've been great to work with ever since.During the application process, Reed kept me up to date and was very professional and fun to work/chat with.
