Regarding the Valley Branch - What a great shop, selling everything from a pin to an elephant it is all the more a shame that, with the exception of the young "Saturday" staff who are very pleasant, during the week, the shop is staffed by rude, unwelcoming people with no customer service skills. Since moving to the island a few months ago, we have visited the shop on a number of occasions and always the staff are "stand offish" or downright rude, no cheery welcomes are found here and god forbid that you should ask a question. The staff at the tills are no better the only word spoken to customers appears to be "next" without the usual "please" and as customers leave having purchased their goods, I have never heard a thank you, have a nice day, or any other pleasantries spoken to any customer.
On our visit yesterday, my husband approached a member of staff and very politely asked the location of an item, the female staff member who was seemingly checking stock, did look up, but with an expression on her face that could have soured milk, pointed with her pen and said, "there", put her head back down and that was the end of the exchange. I was enraged, my husband however took a more philosophical view, he pointed out that he pitied the woman going through life with such an attitude and joyless countenance.
Did we feel valued as customers? Certainly not! The service from staff is poor and wholly unacceptable. read more
