Great service and an eye doctor on hand for a near immediate appointment, which is apparently hard to come by.

When Kessler and Weintraub owned it, I couldn't say enough good about it (Kessler was our doctor --- wonderful). Both have retired recently and the practice was sold. Now I can't say enough bad about it. Phone calls are no longer answered in the office, they go to an off-site call center. When you arrive for your appointment, you're required to check in at a kiosk, even when nothing has changed (insurance, address, etc.) since your last appointment, which is a painful inconvenience when you're elderly and in bad physical shape like me. There is only one ophthalmologist (medical doctor) here, the others aren't medical doctors. And she isn't here full-time. Original appointments are never honored. You always receive an email advising you the appointment needs to be rescheduled "due to unforeseen circumstances", and, when you call to reschedule, the first available appointment is always months away, meaning you aren't being seen annually, instead more like every 18 months. These "unforeseen circumstances" of theirs have happened to my husband and me with every appointment since the practice was sold and to every appointment for my sister and her husband who are patients here, too. I guarantee this is happening to most, if not all, patients here. There are no other ophthalmologists in Westminster, except for a pediatric ophthalmologist, so we're stuck here because I don't want to be seen by an optometrist, I want a medical doctor only. If I could find another ophthalmologist in Westminster, my husband and I would leave this place in a New York minute.

Alright, brace yourself and have patience. This will be a lengthy review…read more In December 2023, I called to schedule an appointment for an updated routine eye exam, to ask about getting a new pair of prescription eye protection for work (there's an astigmatism in my right eye), and to possibly consult with a doctor regarding Lasik (if possible). Appointment was scheduled for March 2024. One week prior to said appointment, I get a call to reschedule as the doctor would not be in the office on my appointment date. For that doctor (do not recall the name), the next available appointment would be in June 2024. I said, "Absolutely not, I have already waited 3 months." The receptionist, being very pleasant to work with on the phone, offered an appointment the following week with a different doctor - Martin Weintraub, M.D. Upon going to my new appointment, I enter the office to see that I have to check-in on a self-service kiosk (great... just like self-check outs in stores) where you scan your driver's license, scan insurance card(s), enter PII, answer whether you have COVID and/or display symptoms (which I answered I do not), and PAY the co-pay BEFORE receiving service (nope, don't like that). A short while later, an employee/technician, Samantha, calls me back to perform pre-screening questions, check my eyes, dilate eyes, etc. Prior to leaving the room to wait in the lobby for the doctor to call me back, she asks "Did you bring a mask?" in which I replied "Nope!" She hands me a flimsy disposable medical mask (the blue ones that hook on the ears) that I proceeded to put in my pocket. She, nor any other employee in that building, was wearing a mask. A couple elderly patients in the lobby were wearing a mask, which is their choice. Even David Bittings, O.D., another doctor, was walking around without wearing a mask. THEN I see Weintraub escorting another patient out into the lobby with that stupid blue mask worn as a chin diaper. He briefly disappears, and then returns to call my name. In the exam room, upon sitting in the exam chair, I witness Weintraub takes off his chin diaper to put on a more "durable" mask, similar to a KN95 or 3M. He asks me "Do you have a mask?" I said "there is one in my pocket." He asked if I could take it out, in which I did to show him. Weintraub just stares at me for a few moments, with this dumbfound look on his face. I then said, "Do you want me to put it on?" in which he replied "Yeah!" (In a condescending tone). While putting on the mask, I said, "Cool, have to wear a mask that doesn't work." He replied, "Masks do work." I said, "Nope, it's already been proven they don't." This is where he derisively said, "There are other doctors you can go find that do not require masks." While putting a piece of medical tape across my nose to hold the useless mask in place, he said "entertain me." After the exam, when prompted if I have any questions, I began to ask about Lasik which is where he cut me off, instructing me to go to a Lasik center and ask, but probably won't get it due to my astigmatism being minor. When I began asking about replacing my prescription eye protection, he again cut me off and said, "I don't do classes here. Go to where you got your other pair." Well, that was a previous doctor in a different state. This man's "bedside manner" is very subpar, and apparently doesn't like allowing his patients to practice free will. Only Weintraub was wearing a mask, so it clearly was not an office policy. Just his, because he has to get in the face of patients. The mask I had to wear was not for me, but for him. I have had COVID 3 times, without receiving the Fauci Ouchi, and I'm just fine. I do not need, or want, to wear a mask. If you, poor man, in your frail state are worried about contracting an illness (like the common cold) from someone else, perhaps you should RETIRE! You've been going for 41 years... maybe it's time to call it quits. Yes, he was right, there are other doctors I could have seen. Considering that I had already paid for the appointment, though, I put on the mask to get it over and done with versus trying to get a refund. However, as a 39 year old man, you sir have lost a patient and hopefully this review will deter others from visiting with you as well. If you decide to schedule health care services at Carroll Vision Center, stir clear of this liberal imbecile (I presume, of course).

The results so far are not what I understood them to be based on how it was explained to me. If I have to leave a star before ending my post, please understand, the jury is still out. Then I added to this, Today is 7/30/24 Adding to the original post. Going into the 6th month soon and I'm still having the same problems with my vision. I'm praying Dr Friedman will be able to help me, because driving, along with shopping and every day chores is so frustrating and sometimes dangerous. It was word of mouth from many people that led me to place my sight in his hands. Then I added this after seeing him in Sept 2024 This is after my other 2 reviews below. I had an appt with Dr Friedman Sept 10, 2024. My husband went along for support. Dr Friedman came in and examined my eyes and seemed in a rush. He said he would give me a prescription for glasses and I could slip over into their optical center. He then turned to my husband and left the machine in my face and did not want to acknowledge my questions. I moved it myself and asked what else could he do. His answer " It's not an exact science", and " these things happen". Then " at least you vision is better than it was". I told him it wasn't fair. He got quite a bit of money out of our pocket and also some from Ins., so I said he should buy my glasses. Especially since he told me I would not need prescription glasses. I asked him why the staff at the surgi-center was so different from the 1st eye compared to the second. The first I had so many people come in the room and putting drops in my eye and the 2nd there was 2 people , and hardly any drops. He shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know". My comment was, "well you're my doctor and should be looking out for me". How the scratch got on my eye from the 1st surgery was never looked into. I thought it was from Dr Eaton who took out the lens and was pushing on my eye until finally she put drops in and it slid out. My husband told me he was about to do it for me. When I told Friedman, he snickered and said that didn't cause my problem. Oh, and as it says on their website about "state of the art equipment", I'm not so sure. While my eye was propped open, the machine had to reboot itself twice. During this last appointment, never did I hear an "I'm sorry Kathy". Also never in the beginning did I hear anything about the possibility of this whole ordeal not being a success. Not once! Many of the reviews. seem to be excellent. That's why I went to him. I wish I'd never gone through with it. I didn't trust the script for glasses he gave me and that turned out to be true. I went my optometrist and he re-examined me and and fitted me with progressive glasses. Dr. Friedman said he was not going to do regular eye exams any longer. Just going to do surgery's. Choose wisely is all I can say.

Ordering new glasses, for me, is on par with negotiating the purchase of a car. I go in with basic needs, but am prepared for a barrage of upsells. My intent is to get what the insurance covers. As a male, I also see the rows and rows of frames ... and think "Just gimme something that works!" That's why I take my wife along. She's the one that has to look at me in the glasses! Anyway, I took a seat with Gil ( or should I call him Five Star Gil? My rating is really based on Gil's service, which was outstanding.) Gil took my glasses, noted the features ( progressive lens, flexible/bendable frames that while not unbreakable, were resistant to abuse ). Gil then went and picked out two frames that were covered by my plan, as well as a pair that were not. He based his selection based on the features of my existing glasses that served me well for 6 years. He started out by explaining the lens and frame allowances in my plan, and then proceeded to explain the features of his selected frames each choice by quoting *only* the net price to me (saving me from doing the math in my head). He discouraged me from buying the upsell options and encouraged me to keep it simple. After reading the previous reviewer and her problems ... I kept thinking to myself: "To bad she didn't use Gil. He would've kept it simple." In the end, I choose Gil's selection that wasn't included in my insurance plan. And it turns out that the entire cost was on par with the net amounts of the frames covered in my vision plan.. Plus it included a magnetic sun glasses. Plus it was my wife's first pick. So, once again, Kudos to Gil. Nice work, and thank you. Oh, btw: I noticed after leaving that at some point during the visit, Gil had taken my old glasses to the back, cleaned them, and gave them a nice "tight" tune up. Thanks again, Gil ! My one and only complaint is that they scale back their evening hours in the summer and close at 6pm. The web page still says 7 pm. I arrived just a few minutes before 6 to find a locked door. Thankfully, Dr. Barber was coming by with some files. He opened up, let me in. When he saw that staff was still there, he sent me on back. Update your web page, guys! But again, thank you Dr. Barber for being on the spot.

I double-checked that they were in network for my insurance which she confirmed, but she said it was my responsibility to know what my plan covers (which I do). I questioned how they would know what to charge me so I'd know if there was any balance over and above what my insurance covered but she couldn't explain that. I have never, ever had anyone answer like that. She kept talking over me and was very condesending and rude. The following is letter I posted through the company website on March 31. I just purchased two pairs of glasses at your Westminster Md store yesterday. Cody assisted me and I just want to say he was charming and extremely competent. I broke my glasses and have a +11.00 bifocal prescription which means I am limited to glasses that are a 52 PD (pupil distance) or below for best fit. Cody was so patient helping me pick out frames. He made a call to the lab to ensure what size they felt would best work with a high power lens. I can't see anything right now and it's not like eye stores organize frames by PD size. We really had to do some searching. I found a lovely pair of discontinued Armani frames marked down (Ax 3008) for single vision and Commotion Assertive for my bifocals. For 45 years I've used private optometrists but they (Levin) quoted me a price of $430 for one pair which was more than I was prepared to pay in an emergency. Cody fit me with two pairs for $297 and the service was as good as my privately owned optometrist. So, now all I have to do is squint my way through the next two weeks (thank God I don't drive a car, right). I have never used chain type stores for my eyewear because of the high prescription, Vision Works, Zenni and Warby Parker turned me away. I usually have to keep my glasses until they break (my last pair was 8 yrs ago) because of the expense and then I only have one pair at a time. If your company can successfully fill my prescriptions you will change the health of my eyes forever. Now I will always have to go to an Opthamalogist for my prescription, but even without the free exam it's still a really good deal. Sincerely Eleanor April 12, 2016 Hi just picked up 2 pairs of glasses this morning. Cody was there and it was nice to finally see what he looked like (really cute). My glasses are fine. The High index with the Verithin make them the thinnest glasses I've ever owned. Well worth the price. I will need some time getting use to the bifocal line... Both prescriptions are clear and accurate. Thank you Cody and Americas Best. See you in two years. Maybe sooner. I'm thinking of getting sunglasses next month.

Staff was unconcerned told me to give it time to get use to new prescription. It's August and I still can't see past 10 ft. I saw DR. Kessler in July for a second opinion. My pressure was 20/22. He immediately sent me to Dr. Swartz a glaucoma specialist at GBMC. Turns out I have Angle-closure non-glaucoma (because I haven't yet had an acute attack). A condition which causes the eye lens to fuse to the iris and close the drainage canals, causing fluid build up. On Tuesday I had a peripheral iridotomy, a 5 minute, in office procedure, that will save me from a future acute glaucoma attack that can result in massive nerve damage and vision loss. I have to see another specialist to correct the damage to my lenses before Dr Kessler can give me a new eye prescription. I'm hopeful that I will see again by Thanksgiving. Same condition two different opinions. Dr. Baer has been passively monitoring my pressure once a year for 5 years using the DO NOTHING method.
