I started ordering mulch here 4 seasons ago. I only much every other year since buying this. The color does not fade. I only need a yard for my small beds. I was buying the big box store bags. About 12-15 bags are enough. I've tried Scott's and Vigiro, maybe others too, everyone was absolutely inferior in every way. They lose all their color after one or two days of rain and I would find strange occasional pieces of trash in the bags too. Not anymore. This is my totally honest opinion and I hope the quality of mulch is as good this year as it was two years ago. If not I will update. read more

They showed up to deliver and refused to back down our driveway say that it wasn't a driveway. I drive a 70,000 pound crane for a living and routinely drive it down this driveway and have had loam delivered there. My 84 year old father got upset and went to find out why and get our money back and after handing him the money back the owner told him to F off. Horrible way to treat any customer period. read more

Be aware that they believe in "buyer beware" so make sure you ask numerous questions before purchasing products. In our experience they engaged in deceptive advertising. After seeing a sample of what we wanted they delivered a product covered in so much dirt that we spent several hours having to rinse the stones before laying them down. read more

We used the Sterling Greenery plant nerds to come and redesign our front yard. The prior owners neglected the yard and it showed! They came last summer, and we are soo pleased with how the plants came back in this year. They also alternated plants so perfectly so once one is done blooming another plant begins to bloom so there is always color. We are planning to have them back for another section of our yard. Ordered mulch online on Tuesday morning and received immediate confirmation of my order had to call on Friday to find out when it would be delivered and told I would get it that day had to call again on Saturday after I did not receive it and told on schedule for today still have not received it. Ordered from them because they are local but their competitors are delivering next day poor customer service to say the least. Will not order from them again. read more

The loam I received from Sterling Greenery was not suitable for planting anything organic. It is nothing but clay and or pond dredgeings, I planted some grass against my better judgement and was not suprised at the outcome, nothing just a waste of good grass seed and fertilizer. I called and asked to speak with someone about the material. The manager told me I would have to speak to their supplier, and their only involvement was to add sand to the mixture. She also stated their is nothing they can do, and politely asked if their was anything else she could help me with. Just be careful and ask for some guaranteed analysis on the loam. Working in the Engineering field we demand sub contractors supply us with such data to eliminate problems after the fact. Sorry not such a good experience, and doubt very much they will ever hear from me or anyone in the Holden area. Looking for person interested in 3 yards of loam free. Vin P. read more

I recently used Sterling Greenery's landscape design service and I couldn't be happier! Everything about the process was great, and the cost is very reasonable. It was easy to make an appointment, and Peter arrived right on time with a box truck filled with beautiful plants. We discussed the property and the area that needed landscaping, and he sketched a beautiful design that incorporated my preferences and integrates well with the rest of our property. Then, Peter pulled the plants off the truck and arranged them where they will go, to be sure that the design works. You can choose to have Sterling Greenery install the plants or do it yourself, no pressure either way. I am installing them myself so I just paid for the plants and we were all set! I have purchased plants from Sterling Greenery before and they are the best quality and have always thrived. They have a 3-year guarantee though just in case. I would recommend Sterling Greenery to anyone. read more

I recently purchased the plantnerds service for my back yard. When I purchased the service, it was my understanding the service included a layout/design. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed when Abby told me I would not receive this layout/design. Abby did show me 20 very attractive plants and I purchased 5 plants costing over $200. I was again disappointed to discover they do not offer any credit off of the plant prices for hiring the mobile service, which costs $49. With this in mind, I'd hesitate to recommend this service. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars for this place. We're looking to buy new plants for our mulch beds and trees for our yard. There were 5-6 workers there moving plants inside even though they were closing in over 1 hour. One worker was inside having a personal conversation with another customer. The workers were extremely rude to us and said they didn't have time to help us. It took a lot of convincing to get my husband to abandon his baseball game to come look at plants and trees and then we were completely shut down by these people. I won't ever return here. I recently had mulch and loom delivered. The truck had a hydraulic issue and leaked on my driveway. The owner called and apologized and hired a company to come and burn off the oil and seal my driveway. Awesome customer service. read more

I Have recently stopped at Sterling Greenery and ordered a complete mailbox kit assembly with a granite post for 580.00 To begin with, the woman behind the counter makes you wait in front of her for 10 seconds before she looks up and says" what can I do for you" no greeting no smile no nothing. She honestly makes you feel like you're talking to a police officer after crossing a red light. I completed my purchase with her and she said that someone will call me in a couple of days for an installation date. 10 days passed and no One called. So I stopped again to inquire and was "greeted" the same way by the same woman, very unfriendly..! This time she again said that someone will call me. I said it's important for me to have an idea about the install date as I'm trying to plan things. Actually I was trying to mulch that area around the new mailbox After the installation and I had to give a date to the much delivery guy, who in turn has to give a date to the guy who's going to install the much. So Sterling Greenery was holding up the whole job. A week went by again and no phone call from them. So just today I called up to cancel my order. The same "straight business" woman picked up and I simply said I would like to cancel my order. She said " can I ask you why" and I explained to her the reason. So she says "okay". Then I said " is this all you have to say okay". She then tried to explain that she left messages to production. I did actually manage to extract the word " sorry" out of her mouth at the end. I did work as a head grower for a reputable garden center for 20 years; this way of dealings is so strange and would not be tolerated anywhere. This is sad news because I'm a Gardner and we have recently moved to Princeton. I was really hoping to establish a good relationship with this business due to its proximity to our house, but they really blew it. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Discovered Mark (owner) during a lengthy search process for an expert pond builder. After having done lots of homework/research on my own, determined Mark was the best around.....and by around, I mean the entire New England region. He designed and built me a 25k gallon pond, complete with naturally filtering water bog, multiple water falls, natural looking stone boulders and a wide array of water plants. He and his team are incredibly punctual and reliable. Great follow up service too. Simply put, I could not be happier with the outcome! P.S. Like just about everyone else who has built a pond, I only wish I had made it bigger. Fought the wife on the project all the way; now she loves it. read more

This company took our order for mulch and agreed to drop it off on the existing mulch area next to out driveway as they did in previous years. NO RESTRICTIONS were mentioned until the truck arrived and the driver stated he would his truck wheels could not leave our tar and wanted to dump the mulch on the driveway. He then indicated it would Block at least 3/4 of the driveway width. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD as it would block us from exiting our driveway and it would not be acceptable to us and he needed to find another solution. He refused, so we asked to speak to a supervisor. He said they were not available, offered no contact number or name and would only let us move our cars before he dumped. This again was unacceptable to us as it would cause difficulty leaving in an emergency. We pointed out to the driver we had the mulch dumped on the existing mulch previously but his company and another local company multiple times in the past and that made no difference. We requested multiple times an alternative plan; none, zero, not even a suggestion was offered. The driver refused to assist in anyway and drove off with an attitude. We will NEVER EVER order from them again. This Company and Driver need to learn the meaning of customer service. read more

We paid $50 (at recent home show) for a landscaping plan. When the designer arrived, she said that she doesn't do written plans, only verbal. If we had known this, we would not have paid. We had two other estimates and did not have to pay for either of them. I feel it was deceptive of them to say we were paying for a plan and only get a verbal plan. I wish that I had the same opportunity to speak with Mark the owner when I had a problem. In spring 2016 I scheduled a landscape design consultation and a box truck was sent to my house with plants that fit my specifications. The woman designer was extremely nice and seemed quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately for $49 you only get a short amount of time with her, I don't remember exactly what that was but it was definitely 30 minutes to 45 minutes at the most. I felt rushed but we agreed on a design and $1500 later I was left to plant them (my choice). I bought the compost mixture that she recommended, followed her instructions and tended to the plants extremely well. After months the hydrangeas weren't doing anything so I went in to ask about it. They told me that if the plants were completely dead they would replace them. If they had even a couple leaves on them they would not. So I replaced the one that was completely dead. Now a year later I have two others that look very sad. A dragon plant is completely dead and I will be replacing that one. One of my arborvitaes has brown spots throughout. I'm feeling like I made a huge mistake using Sterling Greenery because the plants that I bought at Home Depot and Ocean State Job Lot last summer are thriving and I paid less than $100 for all of those. My Christmas Tree Shop rose bush is gorgeous. For $1500 I expected healthy beautiful plants but that is far from the case. Everything looks like it's sick. They told me to use 10-10-10, which I will do in hopes of reviving them but for $1500 I really wanted someone to come to my house in Sterling and look at them. They told me that they were way too busy and if I planted them myself their policy is to not drive to customers homes. Very disappointed. read more
