The service at this location is amazing. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. My partner started with chicken a la king soup. Nice and creamy with lots of chicken pieces. For the appetizer we started with the Mediterranean salad (greek) I was not a fan its very acidic. The lemon is overpowering for my taste buds. I did love the burrata salad we had it the first time we came. Next We selected the tuna tartare it has nice pieces of fish with some mango (good portions). I really enjoyed the combination with the rice cracker (think fried rice paper). If you are not a fan of tartare, there is some guacamole on the side of the tartare. I personally would not mix as the guacamole takes over the light taste of the fish. However, on the rice paper its a great combo. For the main I got the NY steak. My partner got the 20oz cowboy ribeye. The steak is here has always been amazing for me. Its cooked on a maple wood burning grill. It has that nice crust with the tender meat inside. Tonight it came with bone "marrow" butter. Feels very fancy never had it before. I really liked it. It always comes with a great mix of vegetables. Tonight it came with the baked potato. We go here on our anniversary each year but had a disappointing experience this year. We had the Table D'hote which costs $92. I substituted French Onion soup, for an extra charge, in lieu of the Chicken a La King soup. It was very good. They brought me the wrong appetizer - escargots (which my husband got) instead of beet salad, which resulted in a bit of a wait. My husband's entree was Wild Boar which he enjoyed. I ordered the strip loin steak. It was very tough and the whipped baked potato looked like it had been sitting under a warmer for half an hour. I didn't eat it. I only ate a few bites of the steak because it was so tough. They were very nice about it, apologized and gave my meal for free. The desert was a delicious Pear Ricotta cake and they brought us a delicious chocolate desert with an Anniversary message. This is the second time I've had a very tough steak there. This is the standard by which to measure all steakhouses here in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. Our waitress was well informed, very approachable and fun; most importantly she offered exceptional recommendations. My date and I had the Cowboy steak and the filet mignon with tiger shrimp. The taste of the steaks themselves was superb! We ordered them to be cooked medium and they were juicy and tender, with great flavor and crisp exterior thanks to the wooden grill--mouthwatering cuts of high grade meat. We asked for the blue cheese sauce that accompanied our dishes perfectly and ordered a side of mushroom risotto that was comforting and tasty. Note: even the bread and butter they offer is amazing! We also ordered a crab cake for an appetizer and creme brûlée for dessert which I highly recommend. The ambiance was quiet, romantic, sophisticated, and very friendly. It was a memorable dinner and I look forward to returning. Also, it was a very easy drive from the center of Ottawa and there is free parking at the restaurant. I had heard such amazing things about this steakhouse but was left a little underwhelmed. The waiter was charming and entertaining. The restaurant itself was stunning and one of a kind with beautiful floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with wine bottles. The food is where we were left a little underwhelmed for the price. The steak was good but kind of difficult to cut through with the knives provided and the remainder of the table d'hôte was tasty but nothing too special. Overall a nice meal but not a place I would recommend for the food alone. read more

This is by far the best restaurant in the Ottawa-Hull-Gatineau area. We've been there a few times already. Last time we went, we showed up around midnight, when everything else was closed. They were about to close, but the hosts let us in, as there were still some guests who weren't done eating. The host offered a sampler plate (not on the menu), which features every type of meat they have. It's the most meat I've ever eaten in my life. The price was pretty good (can't remember the exact cost, but it was not outrageous). This is the best steak you will find in the region. (There was l'Oree du Bois in Chelsea, which was also pretty good, but I heard the owner / chef passed away.) read more

Most of the people will say Toronto should hv way more choices, but none of them provides the price in this restaurant. The price is literally half of the ones in Toronto especially the lobster tail. Our waitress Is very helpful in helping us selecting the right pairing wine and choices of food, so we can try lots of seafood in their restaurant. If anyone wants to go, get a filet mignon, as they grill it on the maple wood grill. What an amazing experience it was dining here. The Maitre D' Ahmad was the most Gracious Host you could ever find. He makes you feel comfortable from the Minute you call to make your reservation. He's very Polite and Welcoming, hes an absolute gem to this establishment. Ahmad Gave me a tour of the wine cellar, such a great way to start the night. He was very Knowledgeable. Upon searching on Yelp for a good steakhouse in the area, I made reservations for 2 at Sterling and our overall experience was lovely and romantic. We were seated in one of the crescent shaped booths and the service was amazing from start to finish. The set dinner (table d'hote) was the best value on the menu - we got the soup of the day to start (vegetable), beef tartare (AMAZING FLAVOUR!!) and escargots as the appetizer, 12 oz. NY sirloin cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes and vegetables as the main, and cheesecake and coffee for dessert. I had one of the worst eating experiences at this restaurant for a friend's bachelor party last night. The first of a series of unfortunate events was the hair I found in my soup - the first of a 4 course meal. The wait between meals was around 45 minutes. One of my friends only got a 12oz Serloin steak while the rest of us got our appetizers, so he waited 2 hours for his main meal and a loaf of bread that they provided every hour. We were starving and tried getting a waiter to notify us what was happening, and they just walked away and ignored us. The rest of the meals were sub-par and disappointing. The one positive note was they poured us water frequently. But to top it all off, the worst of it all, was when we finished paying out bill. We each agreed the service was terrible and didn't deserve a tip, especially for the $100/meal experience you think you would get. After we paid, the server was occasionally bumping my chair aggressively while walking by. I'm sure it was "by accident", but it was very clear it wasn't after the 3rd time. Then my friend got out of the bathroom and told us a server just shoulder checked him while he was walking back to the table! This was objectively a cruel and overwhelming disappointing end to our friends bachelor party. You should be ashamed. read more

We were given a tour, had a great conversation about wine, Mr Ahmed treated us like family, and was extremely inviting. And the food? Of course top-notch! Massive service failure. So disappointing. First off, we love Sterling. My husband loves their steak tartar and we wanted to go somewhere special for our third wedding anniversary tonight. We booked a month and a half in advance and had been excited and looking forward to a classy dinner. We were seated at a table in the middle of a big Christmas party. There were tables full of gifts, everyone was standing, milling around, and being incredibly loud. (As they should, they were having a party.) It was unbearably loud and uncomfortable, so we requested to be moved, but there were no other tables for two. We were simply told that "It's Christmas". People shouting and bumping into our chairs was not the atmosphere we signed up for, so we left. We tried two other restaurants, but given the time on a Friday night, both were full. So we ended up at home ordering Chinese, having egg rolls and resentment for our anniversary dinner. This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for a restaurant. read more

Our group ate here in Jan 2016 Atmosphere: Very nice. Friday night. Not that busy. We came ahead of our reservation and there was a ton of seating available. Half full. Live pianist which was nice. Service: Okay, where do we begin. The initial order to take drinks took 10 minutes. We ordered wine. We all ordered the table d'hote. Immediately after ordering we got another tables appetizers by mistake. Then the soup all came slightly warm and had to be sent back. The apps were two salads and the escargots. One of the salads was missing the feta! Weird. They had to correct that. The other party swears that the sauce served with the escargot was the same soup we had earlier. It looked identical to me. I ordered the NY sirloin and one of us ordered the filet mignon. They then presented us with the two filet mignon they were going to cook. So I advised the waiting staff that I ordered the sirloin. And then of course we're served two filet mignon. They then had to correct that. The coffee served was luke warm. Not hot. We didn't say anything. The desserts were served without a description of what they were. I felt embarrassed for the restaurant. I've never seen this many mistakes at one sitting. Quality of food: The Parmesan cream soup was good. The greek salads were good. The steaks were decent but nothing special. We were told that this was one of the best steak places. The Keg steaks were agreed by all to be superior! The steaks weren't bad just good. However, they were cooked to order and done correctly. The peppercorn sauce was pretty good. The dessert was mediocre to good. A dark chocolate something. Unexplained by the server. Price: The table d'hote is $65 which includes soup of the day, an app, the entree, dessert, and a coffee or tea. Overall a much better deal than ordering a la carte. Interesting experience at this restaurant tonight. Although all the food was excellent, our seared tuna steak was over cooked. My husband ate almost all of it before he let them know, but the maitre d' immediately kicked into action. He insisted on replacing the meal with anything else on the menu, and when my husband politely declined, (we were already quite full), he insisted they would comp it. Then he invited us on a fascinating personal tour of their exceptional wine cellars, showing us $12000 bottles of wine and telling great stories about the kinds of customers who do (and don't) buy them. He showed us the kitchen and grill and the special fridge where they age their beef. Then he sent over complimentary glasses of port and cognac. We are not high rollers, but Mr Ahmed gave us full attention and welcome and treated us as if we were. A memorable night. We will be back. Also? Exceptionally good filet mignon. This place is a little hidden gem. It is a gorgeous and classy steak house located in the Gatineau area. They really know their steak. After you order you steak with any choice you like - the server brings out all the different sizes on a platter to show you (this is covered with Saran Wrap) - they will bring out the piece for you to look at and inspect before they cook it! My wife wanted to bring me somewhere special on the occasion of my retirement. Have been to Sterling Restaurant onboard Princess cruises and we were really disappointed. The service was great and the Maitre D gave us a tour of the premises which was great and we were really impressed. My wife ordered the onion soup, which was overpowered with Thyme, and not the usual French onion soup she normally gets. I order the Giant Seared scallops, (very nice presentation), but was cold. My wife's main dish was great, but I had the rack of lamb which was too heavily crusted and very tough, and, couldn't really taste the garlic in the Mash Mousseline which accompanied my dish. My wife ordered the Crème Brulee for dessert, and it was also a disappointment. It was like a sweet omelet, instead of the expected creamy texture. Truly one of the best steakhouse in the Outaouais region. The filet mignon is succulent and the presentation is beautiful. Vegetables and home cut fries are simply delicious. The location is in front of the river and the house is elegantly decorated for romance with a classy and warm environment. The thing that gives the place its charm and special touch is the layout and most of all the maitre D, Ahmed. A man is a class act. We came to Sterling for Valentines. They had a pre-set 4 course menu. The atmosphere was very intimate & romantic with a vased rose and pre-lit candle. The place wasn't overwhelmingly crowded and the staff was great when I asked them to check the menu for my allergies and they throughly filled our waters. We had the soup of the day, which was a tomato based; it was excellent and tasted better with every spoonful. For appetizer, he got the beef tartar and I got the sliced fresh buffalo mozzarella, savoura tomatos and homemade balsamic redustion and vinaigrette. The beef tartar, we both throughly enjoyed, however we did not enjoy the tomato and mozza, the leafs and balsamic tasted too strong for our liking. For the main, he got the 12oz New York Sterling Deluxe Sirloin, topped with giant scallop, shrimp and beamaise sauce served with garlic potato puree and seasonal vegetables. The sirloin was suppose to be medium rare, but it was a little closer to medium in some areas. The shrimp was excellent and rest was the same as any typical restaurant. For my main, I got the 8oz Sterling silver-filet mignon rossini topped with foie gras served with garnished baked potato and fresh vegetables. I got it rare, and it was amazing with the foie gras and it cut like butter. The baked potato was also good. For dessert, we got the chocolate raspberry mousse. It was very smooth and with the combination of real raspberries, there was lots of flavour; we both however couldn't finish it as we were very full by the end of the end of the course. read more

Food was ok but not as flavorful as is the price tag. Several listed wines were unavailable without server knowledge and was not stored at correct temperatures. There was lots of banging of glasses and plates throughout the evening. Servers were constantly racing past tables (a few more would have been a good plan); we were seated in the thoroughfare. I would expect chatter amongst tables but not the noise that we encountered throughout the evening. Overall service was slow. Outstanding steak and service! We came as a group, and no one was disappointed in their meal. I ordered the onion soup to start (with brie cheese!), and the filet minion. The meat was perfect - tender, properly cooked with a tasty peppercorn sauce. Their claim to fame is that they tenderize their own Sterling AAA Alberta Beef in their butchery, and cook it only over open flame (which you can watch as you enter). For the price, we expected way more than we got. We ordered the Table d'Hours: fried calamari and cod fish, a mushrooms appetizer and NY strip sirloin, house red wine: everything was just fine... nothing spectacular to our palates. The dessert (a regular cheesecake) was frozen, with a hard oatmeal crust with too much and too sweet sauce. Red Rose tea, really? Sterling is a premium dining destination in an impressive setting. Our group of six all enjoyed their dinner, most selected the table d'hôte at $65. However, at premium prices, i expect everything to be perfect. So the undercooked vegetables and the waiter forgetting that we asked for soda water on the side with our cocktails, was disappointing. With two bottles of barbaresco for six people, the bill with taxes and service came to $300 per couple. So this is not an every day choice but one well worth trying occasionaly. read more

We are from Alberta and get to enjoy AAA, sterling silver steaks all the time, but I have to say that the way it was prepared was one of the best we have ever had. The service was perfect, with amazing attention and great meal suggestions. It was our mothers birthday and they provided birthday cake for everyone. We were also treated to a tour of the beautiful building and their amazing wine collection. It was an experience that you don't get often and we felt appreciated and special.
