Crab wrap, frites, salad w duck & vermicelli.

What a fabulous meal tonight at Clandestin! Everything we had was delicious and the service... well, we could not have asked for better. So glad we picked here for our last night in Gatineau. Wrap with crab and poulet frit and with a chipotle mayo with roe. Frites that we're out of this world. And my wife had a salad with duck and cellophane noodles. I can't show the mousse because it disappeared too quickly.

Le Clandestin for the win! Je ne parle pas Français, but my server, Eric helped translate the menu and highlighted some amazing options. Another reviewer said that Clandestin has some wild beer options, and I agree whole-heartedly. Eric pointed me in the direction of a Spanish stout from Laugar Brewery. It had a really lovely and unique taste and went perfectly with the reuben végétarien entrée that I went with. Smoked tofu, cheese, homemade sauerkraut, pickles, French fries, and potato salad with dill, green onions, some sort of mayo based suace, and hot sauce on top. Yes please. Dill on French fries should definitely be a thing. This was absolutely delicious!!!

I came for lunch on a weekday with a few colleagues to try this place out. I was pleasantly surprised ! They have the lunch menu, tapas/apps, and beer menu all on chalkboards, so it must rotate often. If you're a big group, definitely make a reservation, because the whole restaurant probably can only fit about 20 people. The server was really friendly and very attentive, and explained the menu when we requested. The others chose dishes such as the lamb curry poutine, poke bowl, vegetarian burger, and fried chicken bowl. They said that the dishes were in general quite good and not your typical pub fare. A burger and fries from the other restaurants nearby would basically be the same price. I opted instead to try 2 of their appetizers; the beef carpaccio, and the tuna tataki! The beef carpaccio was super tender and thin, and the toppings went well with it. It was quite light tasting, however. The tuna tataki was super fresh! The dish had a lot of avocado, the creaminess which contrasted well with the fresh seafood. I also tried the beer tasting, which was 3 beers. I only really liked one of them, as the other was too hoppy, and the third was too sour. Prices are not too high, and are reasonable for the quality you get. I already want to come try dinner dishes!

Amongst my best places in Ottawa Gatineau area.. Small but well curated selection of draft and bottled beers, nice wines, eccentric dishes, such as the Grilled cheese @ Pacane (with popcorn}, and the infamous Kim Jong Deu, with chunks of crispy and spicy beef.. A must

Petit restaurant intime, simple en apparence, mais j'ai été agréablement surpris par l'originalité du menu et des saveurs.

Absolutely amazing. I had a fried chicken sandwich with butter chicken sauce (and cheese curds). Wow! Ridiculously good.

The gnocchi was a bit over done. There were parts when it felt hard and overcooked. The poutine was satisfactory. Do not expect a gourmet meal because it does feel a bit of a cafeteria feel to it. One positive point is the coffee. They brewed it just right.

Trouble was, nobody found their way there. It was like the private dining room for museum administrators. Now they have moved into the main building - beside the coffee shop with a patio on Laurier and re-branded as Café du Musée. First off, I would never have thought of this place without Ottawa's real food expert, Anne de Brisay. Check out her http://www.capitaldining.ca/ blog. We went for a 'dress-up' lunch on a beautiful summer day. I called ahead but it was not necessary. The place was not exactly swamped. Service was excellent. A very attentive young man who knew the menu well (in English and French) and made some excellent wine recommendations. The interior is evocative of the stone/steel/undulating riverbanks as walls theme that the rest of the museum enjoys. It worked. Nice, modern clean lines. It didn't feel like you were eating at the family snack bar, even though the Imax theatre was 50 yards away. The menu could be called scaled-down fine dining (?) Farm to table, local ingredients, extremely well prepared by a chef of some skill (formerly of Cafe Henry Burger, I understand). Bread was excellent - a couple of different kinds - one was a dried cranberry thingy (a bit sweet for me), the other was a whole wheat with just a hint of molasses. I tried the cauliflower and oka cheese soup. Delightful and creamy. Great balance of flavours. Oka (for foreign readers) is Canada's version stinky but good-tasting local cheese. Instead of a large main course, I had the east coast crab cake. it was a good sized cake of smoked salmon and shrimp on a puree of celeriac. Very nice and just right for lunch. My husband had the arugula, goat cheese, and cranberry salad. Three ingredients, very tasty. His main was the bison with chanterelles and fingerling potatoes. I tried a bit and it seemed nice but I am not a bison fan. Good espresso and crème brulée trio to finish. Best of the trio was the chocolate, though being chocolate probably violates some crème brulée code. Would definitely go back when feeling spendy.
