I called Stephenson pest control with a request to come and evaluate removal of a basket ball sized bald face hornets nest in the gable end of our house. the nest was a good 40 feet off the ground. when they returned my call I explained the situation and advised that it wasn't going to be easy - if not impossible - to reach the nest. I told them I would be happy to pay a trip charge - and fully expected to do so - since we are in Fines creek and that's a bit of a drive. let me be clear - I COMPLETELY EXPECTED to pay for the time and the trip - whether the nest was removed or not. its the right thing to do. two days later Stephenson's tech Marion arrived - promptly and at the appointed time. as soon as he saw the nest he advised that it was going to be impossible to remove it given its height and location. he was very courteous, assured me that the nest posed no threat to anyone given its height and location and that Mother Nature would correct the problem with the first few killing frosts. there after I would be safe to remove it and suggested how I might do so. he then looked at another location on the house where there was a second nest (different species of wasp) and said it would ALSO not be a bother to anyone. he advised that we leave it also. I'm certain he'd have removed it had I asked - but he assured me there wasn't a need to do so - and for reasons similar to the first. I'm not certain that Marion owns this business - but if he doesn't who ever DOES own it can be very proud of the way Marion represented not only Stephenson - but the industry as a whole. he was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. above all he was HONEST. I offerd to pay something several times - bur was refused. I have one more thing to say. Stephenson's was the SECOND call I made the morning I decided to look for someone to remove that nest. the first was to another service that was less than 15 minutes from the house. that individual was QUITE RUDE and ABRUPT and advised me they "didn't come out that far" despite the fact that their add specified Haywood county. STEPHENSON's traveled THREE TO FOUR TIMES that distance, was happy to do so, arrived promptly and the REFUSED an offer to paid for their efforts. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH ANYONE ELSE. Stephenson Pest Control came out in 2 days after I called. They set out 3 bait boxes around the house. Within a week, there was a significant reduction in the rat population. One of the boxes had not been touched, so I rebaited the other 2 and now seem to be free of these little destructive rodents, as I've not seen any for over 2 weeks and the rebated boxes had only a small portion of their bait eaten. 2 weeks later and the same amount of bait is still in the bait boxes, which would seem to indicate the critters are no longer around. They use a neurotoxin that the rats don't ever get weary or suspicious of eating, but within a day, those that feasted on the bait are dead. Their technician, John, was professional and thorough. He answered all my questions and explained how the bait worked and how the rats don't develop a weariness of eating it. As long as it's available, they'll keep eating and dying. All in all, I'm happy with the results and would recommend using them to eliminate your pest problem. They were also the least expensive of any of the pest control companies I called! Stephenson Pest Control encapsulated our larger than usual crawl space. We have a 5'5" head space in most of the crawl space which covers almost 2,000 sq ft. They provided much information on how the encapsulation would be installed and how it would work. The workers, including Mr. Stephenson, came exactly when they said they would. They prepared the walls in one day and had to allow the rest of the day for the sealer to dry. They came promptly the next morning and worked all day to complete the job. They did an outstanding job and the encapsulation works just as they said it would. Our crawl space is completely dry, the dehumidifier they installed works perfectly, and they cleaned up afterwards. With this time of the year the mice are really active. It's an old house and there are voids in places. I'm constantly fighting these things every year. I've put down steel wool in places I thought they were getting in but they still get in. Caught many on glue traps. Just tired of it so wanted to get on a pest control service. Called Stephenson to help remove/eradicate a wasp nest near my front door. They came on time and Will took the time to review the location of the nest and tell me what the plan was for solving the problem. He made sure that the "dusting" was working properly and did not leave until he was sure the wasps were dying down or gone. He also inspected the foundation of the house in the immediate area to see if there were other potential nest locations for the future so we could permanently caulk those areas.
