I was referred to Dr.Edwin Chan by my internist Dr.Tao Wu on May 2016…read more The NY Eye & Ear infirmary building is seen from afar as bluish and the elevators are transparently designed in a way that lets passengers see the streets below. It is just a few blocks away from the Charles B.Wang Community Health Center. Some of the secretaries were of dulcet tones. The waiting room is lighted with various windows. On my first visit an assistant took my pressure and asked health questions taking note of them in a computer. Then,Dr.Chan came in and we had a private consultation. He seemed to be serene and savvy. He felt with lucidity my neck and detected the lymph node that was enlarged, swollen with a mass and lump.He prescribed me Amoxicillin 875mg,1 tablet orally every 12 hrs, for ten days. That was the reason on why my face was inflated (also because of anemia I by that time gained weight) -now that the lymph node swelling is gone and I have moderated my food intake, I am currently in well form. Dr.Chan was swift and exact. He checked my tongue with a wooden tongue depressor. Moreover, before inserting the flexible nasal endoscope through my nose, he utilized a decongestant medicine that cleared my nasal passage. The long endoscope was inserted imperturbably by Dr.Chan. Finally, the removal of impacted cerumen on my ears (which was due to accumulated usage of q-tips or others I have used to clean my ears...) was quite dolorous I beared it. When Dr.Chan inserted the cerumen iron suction removal tool my right ear started to bleed because the impacted cerumen was so tightly adhered to my ear. He was able to assuage me by telling me it was normal and not to be concerned. For two days one of my ears was clogged -it takes a couple of days for the ears to get accustomed of the removal. In ten days I returned to Dr.Chan and my lymph node was substantially less inflamed. The amoxicillin worked to diminish the inflammation but its after effects were upset stomach and other symptoms. I asked Dr.Chan to suggest me a great ear cleaning and he noted it for my pharmacy. He told me to come back for the annual ENT checkup. I am pleased with the velocity he had in resolving my health issues.

My grandpa comes to the office for wax removal which is good The complaint is w the unsanitary state of the waiting area. There is no air in the upper part of this sun room office. And during a visit. A woman was coughing incessantly in the office and not wearing a mask. She blew her nose and then proceeded to use the locked door that a patient has to physically touch and pull to open. I don't know how doctor's offices get away with not having handicap opening doors but they must find a better way to accommodate their patients. Some who are elderly. The office itself is in a poorly maintained building.

I'm terrified of ENT visits because of ear issues I've had all my life. I'm very skiddish when it comes to anyone touching it or even looking in it. This was my first time at this office or seeing her, and it was my first time going to an ENT without my mom. (I swear I'm an adult.. but my mom is an adultier adult and I'm a baby about going to the ENT. Haha!) Dr. Wakefield recognized that I was tense and helped me try to stay calm throughout the visit. She was also much more gentle than other ENTs I have been to. I'm switching from my old doctor to continue seeing Dr. Wakefield. :) Great experience!

The cotton and the wax were still in my ear. My hope was that it would just come out eventually on its own...2 weeks later and lots of ear pain helped me to realize that wasn't happening. I made an appointment with Dr. Tamekia Wakefield. The Astoria Location is perfect, right off the N train. I brought a book ready to sit and wait. No need for that as I was called back within minutes. Dr. Wakefield was kind, professional and efficient. I was out of there in 10 minutes with a cotton free, wax free, non hurting ear. If only every doctors visit could be that pleasant.

So of course, however many (10+) years later, I realize I really need to do this scary thing, and of course recovery is going to be just peachy because I'm older now. Thank goodness I found Dr. Shemen. Other reviews mentioned that he's no nonsense, which he is, but he is also extremely understanding, takes the time to explain everything to you, and is very kind. His open approach definitely helped me deal with my anxiety about having major surgery, and I never felt rushed or belittled during any of my appointments with him. He even has a good sense of humor! I also have to hand it to his staff, especially Jeff. I mentioned I was anxious about this? You have no idea - but Jeff does! Every time I called with a question or concern, no matter how silly, random, or urgent, Jeff got back to me in hours, sometimes literally minutes. If I called before or after business hours, Jeff or even Dr. Shemen himself would call me back to make sure I got the answers I needed to feel comfortable. We needed to reschedule my surgery twice due to unforeseen life stuff, and Jeff was so sweet and helpful in making sure everything happened as it should and to minimize any negative impact. It meant a lot to me that I was treated as a person and not a number. The reception staff at the office were lovely too. Even though there's sometimes a bit of a wait, the staff was very communicative about where you were in line, they were kind and accommodating, offering water or the bathroom, and answered questions while you waited if you had them. Regarding the wait, Dr. Shemen has late days, which is great for us working folks, but it also means that there will be some waiting around since those are popular times and Dr. Shemen takes the time to speak to you and make sure you're good, unlike some other doctors. The times I've been able to go during the day when most people can't go, I've been seen almost immediately. Long story short - thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Shemen and staff, for an extremely positive experience!

I was particularly concerned because many of the patients there are elderly, and it's disheartening to think that my mother or anyone else could be treated in such a manner. Having previously worked in an ENT and Allergy clinic, I was trained to always treat every patient with respect and kindness. I was never disrespected when I needed to obtain a referral from my doctor; I simply informed the staff that I would call my doctor to have it entered into the system. However, one of the front desk staff raised her voice and demanded that I "sign this now," as if I were a child, while I was on the phone with my doctor. I hope this isn't how she interacts with all patients. In my experience working in clinics, it's crucial to communicate with patients in a respectful manner. The front desk staff are often the first point of contact, and politeness and respect should be core values in any clinic. On a positive note, I found the doctors and staff in the back to be very welcoming and respectful.

I felt a sense of calm and professionalism from the moment I stepped into her modern and clean office (a stark contrast to the other Astoria locations, which are dated and stuffy). Dr. Levy herself was a ray of sunshine. Attentive, patient, and thorough, she took the time to truly listen to my concerns and explain my condition in a way that was easy to understand, unlike the previous doctor who rushed through my appointment. Dr. Levy created a space where I felt comfortable asking questions and getting all the needed information. Her approach to treatment was collaborative, not dictatorial. She explained the various options available and discussed the pros and cons of each, making me feel like I was an active participant in my healthcare. Most importantly, she offered practical steps I could take to alleviate my symptoms right away, which was a welcome relief from the feeling of helplessness I had after the previous appointment. If you're looking for an ENT doctor who is as skilled and compassionate as she is, Dr. Levy is your answer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone needing an ENT specialist. I would've given five stars if it hadn't been for a mix-up with their appointment office. A mistake on their end delayed my follow-up by eight days. Ask for a text or email confirmation so the same doesn't happen to you.
