Holifield was supposed to tell my Dentist whether my two teeth were good candidates for a root canal. They were NOT. They should have been extracted. Instead, he gave me two root canals to the tune of $4000. My Dentist was very upset- said the teeth should have been pulled. Holifield wasted my time and money- My Dentist said he would NEVER recommend him again. What a crook. read more

I was so incredibly impressed with Dr. Holifield. Not only did he explain every dental step in the procedure perfectly right before hand and made the whole thing, with images and explanations, easy to understand, but I was totally amazed that I felt no pain at all, besides a slight poke from a novocaine needle! This man has the most amazing bedside manner of making you feel totally comfortable and totally informed of exactly what is going on. Both my wife and my root canals here were without problems. However I took my son in for a root canal and the situation was completely different. My son is on medi-cal so I was out of pocket for about $1400. The root canal did not take, this happens. He had to have it extracted through a medi-cal dentist. The pocket let by the extraction caused excruciating pain. I called and left a message at Dr. Hoylfield's practice for Dr. Holyfield to either do something (I was informed he only does root canals) or for a referral. There was no reply (then or since). After 3 days of pain I took him to Sai Dental in Sonoma. They saw him the same day and cleaned out the pocket, put a plug in and prescribed antibiotics. What a difference. I will find another dentist from now on if I need a root canal. If you see your child in pain, I believe you would feel just as I do. Update: Just got a call from Dr. Holyfield. I just got madder as he explained that shouldn't have happened. Damn right it should not have happened. Remedy, are you kidding? He asked if we had taken him back to Highland Hospital who had yanked the tooth, that had had his failed root canal, and caused the infected pocket left by the missing tooth. Never again. read more

I had an appointment today to have a old root canal cleaned out and repacked. I was scared to death but knew I had to get it done to prevent from eventually losing the tooth. Dr Holifield explained everything step of the process during my consult and again during the procedure not to mention I didn't feel a thing. The numbness has dissipated and I feel fine. My mouth is a little sore which is to be expected. I don't know how it's going to feel later but I'm excited to feel fine now. As I mentioned it was an old root canal, I can remember from the initial root canal coming home and going to bed very upset because the numbing process was horrible. Dr. Holifield was gentle and sensitive to my fears. *the following day I just received a call from his office to see how I'm doing today. I am feeling great and headed out to exercise. I just left Dr. Holifields office and had the best experience ever! I had to have a root canal and was having anxiety about the procedure. The doctor is thorough, explains everything first and then guides you through each step as he is performing the procedure. Made me feel so comfortable with no pain at all. I have had 3 babies all natural and would normally choose giving birth to a child over going to the dentist, but Dr Holifield changed my mind as this was a pleasant experience. His staff was very professional and friendly. The office was clean and they got me in efficiently. As much as I hate the dentist, I wouldnt mind going back to this office any day! Was referred to Dr. Holifield for a possible root canal by my primary dentist. As I stepped into his office I was overwhelmed by anxiety as I HATE the dentist office. I had a consult first and returned the following week for the procedure (due to my personal schedule). Honestly I can say that Dr.Holifield was absolutely amazing. I went to see Stephen holifield for the first time back in 2016 to get a root canal redone, it was a great experience, and I truly like this provider. I had gone back for a consult maybe about 5 months ago, and he suggested I get two root canals done, I booked the apt with the receptionist tonya or toni I forget her name. anyway I called the day before to cancel it due to a serious family emergency, and this women was sooooo unprofessional and said that I cant be canceling apts like that because he has a schedule to fill and I had ruined his schedule for the next morning, trying to make me feel bad about calling in to cancel, she did not even care about my personal reason. after that I felt upset and I realized I no longer wanted to go into this office again. I will talk to my DDS and ask to be referred somewhere else where patient care is priority. this tonya or toni has been calling me nonstop to a point were I have blocked this offices number, I am at work right now and she called my job, which pissed me off like I clearly don't want anything to do with this office because of her customer service. she made me feel so uncomfortable, I work for a health center and I know how important it is to make ALL patients feel welcomed to all of our practices. Stephen holifield is amazing, but I will not go to this office anymore at all due to the traumatic experience I was left with by that women. btw the serious family emergency was a family loss! OMG...great, painless, a very positive experience. The office is clean and nice, Deborah the receptionist kind and helpful. Jessica his assistant efficient and nice, and Dr. Holifield has the best bed-side manner. Sat down and explained what a root canal is, and gently spoke through the actual procedure to let me know each step he was doing as he did it. I did it without novocaine and the only part that hurt was keeping my mouth open! Highly recommend. read more

Truly a kind, experienced, wonderful endodontist. Very professional, and worked with me on a strategy for handling my anxiety. Explained each portion of the procedure throughout, and checked in periodically to make sure I was managing okay. Left me with a plan for the evening in case I had pain. After just one day, feeling SO much better after my root canal! His office staff was great- they called to let me know I could come in early as he was running ahead of schedule, and the new patient process was quick and easy. I cannot recommendation Dr. Holifield and his staff more highly. read more

Dr. Holifield is great. What is not is his billing. You ask up front what do you owe and then 45 days later you get a bill for a small amount. People want to know what they owe at the time of services being rendered! Insurance will let you what amount they cover. Unfortunately will not recommend his office because of this. read more

Excellent! I needed a root canal ASAP as I'd developed a gum infection. The office staff was professional and accommodated me right away. Dr Holifield is the height of professionalism with a very kind and comforting approach. He was thorough in his explanation as to what was needed and during the procedure kept me informed of the progress and was very attentive to my comfort. Let's be clear. I hate the dentist. I dread others fingers and power tools near my teeth. I always expect pain and discomfort as part of even a teeth cleaning. So when I was referred to Dr Holifield for a pretty urgent root canal I was more than a little apprehensive. I arrived at his office and was greeted by Deborah, who took my information and processed my insurance info. She was able to give me an exact cost before I even stepped into the doctors area, which is hard to do when unforeseen events may occur. Once I was sat in the patients chair I was soon greeted by Dr Holifield. He immediately put me at ease with his calm demeanor and professional attitude. He explained the entire procedure beforehand and explained what he was doing every step of the way. Always asking if I was in any pain or discomfort. Aside from the small pinches felt as he was administering the numbing medication I felt virtually no pain during the entire procedure. I was very pleasantly surprised to be pleased with having a root canal done. I was so happy with my experience here that I would most certainly return to him in the future if my dental needs require his specific skills. These are the people you want drilling holes in your teeth if you need to have it done. read more

Awesome! I had a root canal, and was very nervous. This was my first one, and I'd heard all the horror stories. I'd also waited too long, and had intense pain. The procedure was completely painless, and he was very gentle and caring. Truly knows his business. I woke up this morning with some soreness, and a bearable headache. The pain was gone! I wish I had gone here sooner! His price was a couple of hundred more than another endodontist, but totally worth it for his skill level. I'll return here without hesitation. read more
