They seemed nice at first, I had pain in my lower left jaw, was told that Periodontal cleaning…read morewould take care of it, it did not and I did not want the periodontal cleaning I told them up front, only did it on their advice to relieve pain they charged my insurance at the highest amount. Second visit more $$$ was told I had a heavy bite and they ground down my bridge, it did not fix my issue, 3rd visit more $$$ I was referred to a specialist who found the issue was I needed a root canal and it did not take long to figure it out, and they did not take the time to see if that dentist took my insurance so more money out of my pocket. Either the Texas City Family dentist is rushing through patients and recommending the Periodontal cleaning to keep their people busy and no one there can read an x-ray, either way I was in pain for over 4 months and they billed my insurance for the first visit which I paid for because they were going to charge my insurance more than $400 and it was going to be a special of $75 or $80 they still charged my insurance even after I paid the fees. I have lost all confidence and trust in this dentist office; they play Christian music but does not seem to fit the pattern of how they operate. So be careful to find out how much up front for cash and insurance get a second opinion because I am not sure they are paying attention. My best to everyone I hope this saves someone the frustration I went through.

After I moved to Galveston, I discovered I needed a dentist. I first tried one here on the island…read moreand liked him, but he was so busy he couldn't do the work for three months. I needed something done sooner than that. I asked a local resident I met at the pool and she said, "Go off island. Check out Texas City Family Dentistry; so I did. Let me be up front with you: I don't have dental insurance and I'm scared s---less about dentists. I haven't been for many years because of past experiences and I wouldn't have gone now if I didn't have an issue. I have a real fear of dentist, but, I put on my "Big girl Pants" and off I went. After my first visit to TCFD, I am SO GLAD I DID! These people are AWESOME! Dr. Patterson is so friendly and thorough; and Jessica, the hygienist, is gentle! They took a million x-rays (including using some little pencil type one inside my mouth - never saw that before). We worked up a care plan - I need one filling and deep cleaning. I will get this starting next week in two sessions. The prices were the same as the one on island - no surprise there - but using Care Credit, I can pay over 12 months no interest, so that's perfect. What I did like was instead of paying for my whole mouth to be planed, the hygienist goes through measuring each tooth at the gum line and only planes the ones that need it so I saved some money on one quadrant because it did not need it. Very good for the budget! Also Dr. Patterson took a more conservative approach to the tooth that the other dentist said needed a crown. We are going to try a filling first and only put a crown on if we have to. So I like that. All in all I was very satisfied with the initial consultation. Jessica, the hygienist, could see I was very nervous, so she put some numbing rinse in my mouth. OMG - this is miracle stuff! I hardly felt her digging away at my gums at all during the measuring and partial cleaning. When I come back for deep cleaning, she says this will help me not feel the needles so she can dig deeper. In addition to the extra numbing rinse, there is a tv on the ceiling. They give you a remote and earphones to help distract you - I watched a session of Good Bones! Between the swishy stuff and the tv, I was as relaxed as I've ever been at the dentist. I'll write more when I come back for the drilling and the deep cleaning. AFTER 1ST TREATMENT: I was really nervous about going today to get my work done. I got the swishy stuff right away; but, unfortunately, Dr. Patterson came in right after the swishing so it didn't have as much time to "work." However, I didn't feel the numbing needles at all except for the two to the roof of my mouth. But I was told they're not pleasant no matter what. After I got through that, he let me sit for awhile to numb up. I was excited about getting the TV going to distract me; but, unfortunately, the headphones wouldn't connect with the tv so I had no sound. I can honestly say I didn't "feel" any of the drilling, but my mind plays games with me so I did have some struggles getting through it without the distractions of the tv. We had to pause a couple of times to let me get myself together. But I made it and it honestly didn't hurt. It was only my nerves getting to me. After the filling, they moved me to a room where the tv system worked for the planing. I had no troubles there at all because of the distraction of the tv and Jessica was awesome. She really is a super great hygienist. If you're like me - have a real phobia of dental work - I highly recommend Dr. Patterson and Jessica. I honestly think after going to them for a while, I'll get over a lot of my fears; maybe even all of them! I"m much more optimistic now about keeping my teeth healthy

I Never Thought a Dentist's Office Would Feel Safe…read more It started with a dull throb. Not sharp at first, just a heavy, rhythmic pulse that settled in and refused to leave. The kind of pain you try to ignore because you're tired of being "the sick one." But I've learned that for me, a toothache is never just a toothache. It's another reminder of the long, painful war my body has been fighting against itself. I live with gastroparesis and GERD, two chronic digestive conditions that affect nearly every part of my daily life. Gastroparesis means my stomach doesn't empty the way it should. Food sits there too long, causing constant nausea, bloating, pain, and exhaustion. GERD is chronic acid reflux, where stomach acid repeatedly flows back up into the esophagus. It burns. It damages tissue. And while most people think of heartburn, they don't realize how destructive that acid can be over time. Night after night, while I'm asleep, that acid creeps upward. It erodes enamel. It weakens teeth. It undoes years of careful brushing, flossing, and trying to do everything "right." There's a special kind of heartbreak in watching your body damage something you've worked so hard to protect. It makes you feel betrayed by your own biology. And then there's the anxiety. For years, the dentist was one of my biggest fears. The chair. The smells. The sounds. The feeling of being trapped and vulnerable while already in pain. Just thinking about an appointment could trigger a full panic attack. I avoided going for as long as I could, convincing myself I could push through the pain because, somehow, that felt easier than facing the fear. Until I found Miller Dentistry. From the moment I walk through the door, something changes. The space doesn't feel cold or rushed. I don't feel judged for the damage my illness has caused. I feel seen. Like a human being, not a problem to fix. The staff there became the backbone of my bravery. They don't rush me. They don't minimize my fear. They explain every step before it happens and check in constantly, making sure I'm okay before they even think about picking up a tool. Slowly, visit by visit, the panic that once controlled me started to loosen its grip. And then there's Dr. Miller. He's the kind of doctor you rarely encounter. Not just skilled, but deeply human. He took the time to understand how my chronic illness affects my teeth and my anxiety. He never made me feel like a burden. He did something that still amazes me. He gave me his personal cell phone number. Not as a gesture, but as a promise. If something goes wrong, if pain spikes, if fear takes over, I'm not alone. That kind of care changes everything. Knowing I can reach him gives me a sense of safety I didn't think was possible in dental care. It's not just about fixing a tooth. It's about trust. It's about being believed. It's about having someone in your corner when your body feels like it's constantly failing you. My journey with gastroparesis and GERD isn't over. It's painful. It's unpredictable. And my teeth may always be at risk because of it. But when I'm sitting in that chair at Miller Dentistry, I don't feel like a victim of my illness. I feel protected. I feel understood. I feel grateful in a way that's hard to put into words. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm in the best possible hands. Thank you Dr. Brad Miller & everyone at Miller Dentistry
