Do not send you child here. I developed PTSD due to poor treatment from staff while at CFD…read moreGlenview. Therapy techniques were outdated, and shame was weaponized by the staff. The factory style treatment was insensitive at best and abusive at worst. Clients were either coddled as favorites or bullied if staff disliked them personally. Rules were not applied equally by all staff members, which was very confusing. Staff turnover rate was high, and most counselors and therapists were in their early twenties. The psychiatrist comes once a week and clients rarely have more than ten minutes with him. The "night nurse" is only for weekdays and only from 5pm to 9pm. There are no nurses, dieticians, or therapists present on weekends (only counselors, who are very inexperienced). While receiving treatment, I fell into a deep depression and developed severe anxiety (for which I received no medical care) and was severely reprimanded for having panic attacks. I also experienced suicidal thoughts for the first time in my life. Communication with my parents, outside therapist, and psychiatrist were either severely limited or outright prohibited. In the case of the psychiatrist, this was a violation of my rights. Therapists and the program manager would outright lie about insurance coverage so clients would not attempt to exit treatment or switch facilities. I was not allowed to discuss most of my issues with my therapist, only the worksheets they assigned. Group therapy consisted of repetitive worksheets and being shamed by counselors for opening up; process group was very inappropriate and unprofessional. Clients were not allowed to process any issues that could be triggering (i.e. food, eating, exercise, or anything else involving their actual eating disorder). Also, in process group, clients were encouraged to air grievances about each other through "confrontations" that were deeply traumatic for me and should have been handled by staff, not other children. Finally, my meds were frequently missed, and my parents were not informed, nor was I allowed to inform them. The other review was written a few years before I received treatment here, and the facility seems to have gone downhill since.
