When my go-to PT retired and I messed up my hip, I thought I was in trouble...but luckily, I found Glenn at Step and Spine! He's amazing, full stop: attentive, knowledgeable about many aspects of PT, and a high-level athlete himself. As a life-long outdoor sports lover, I've banged myself up a fair amount and done a LOT of PT to stay tuned up. Glenn has shown himself to be on of the best professionals I've seen. Beyond the in-person care, he also shows real care and concern, asking questions of other professionals unsolicited and sharing the feedback. My hip is feeling back to normal and I'm back at my activities now. Not just that, he managed to fix an old whiplash neck injury with a few minutes of assessment and simple exercises, which 2 other PTs hadn't been able to resolve! Beyond that, the other employees (front desk staff and PTs) obviously enjoy working at Step and Spine. Over the past two years I've twice had to work through arthritic knee issues with occupational therapy working with 3 separate trainers. I wanted to continue being active skating, hiking and skiing without experiencing the pain and soreness. The therapy focused on building supporting muscles and reducing pain and has been so helpful. I'll sum it up quickly; 'Go find a Physical Therapy business that cares about your recovery vs. only thinking of profits. I have 2 months ordered Physical Therapy for Shoulder injury. My insurance is amazing and covers everything at 95%...so I am not out of pocket but $10. So its not about personal finance...It's about the business only caring about profit and the incompetence of this place. After 1 session and cancelling now the 2nd and all future, the arrogance and entitlement of this business is astounding. They don't care about your recovery or your physical well being, they just want a quick profit and move onto the next person. So if you care about your recovery, this is NOT the place to go. I would rather spend the rest of my day finding a new place who isn't just into profits and more into care. To give you an example, even the first session I was told for the cheap rubberbands they charge $5 for. I thought nothing of it until the actual physical therapist said; "Yea. They are making us charge for these now which is weird as every place I have ever worked just gives them away cause they are cheap and only temporary. But yea, they make us charge now." I've gone to several PTs, DC, massage therapists, and acupuncturists for problems with my upper back and neck, off and on for decades. With some I have had some relief. This last time, after talking to my doctor I got a referral for PT and went to Bend Step & Spine. After my third session with Glen, and returning to normal activity, I noticed the pain and numbness didn't occur. It was the first time I've been able to do some of those activity without experiencing the burning, numbness I had been experiencing. I cannot recommend Step And Spine for physical therapy in Central Oregon. The reasons are many but I will boil it down to the fact that my therapy worsened the pain in my ankle to the extent that I will probably have to have the screws and plates removed and my back pain and sciatica worsened due to an ill-advised exercise administered by my therapist (clinical director!). That ruined 6 months of therapy. That pain persists. My therapy was abruptly stopped two treatments after that occurred for no valid nor truthful reason. They seemed to have lost their sense of caring about the patient. Their verbal and written communication skills are lacking or non-existent. read more

After a series of injuries throughout my 20s and yet another injury to my knee, now in my mid-30s, I have been feeling really terrible. My injuries were not only affecting my physical ability and performance, but also my mental state. I was feeling "old" and consequently sad. I tried physical therapy years ago in addition to chiropractic work and acupuncture, but didn't seem to get much lasting change out of any of it. I decided to give PT a go again and started seeing Aaron and could tell right away that this was going to make a huge difference. Aaron took the time to build a plan specifically for me and I took my homework seriously and with some attention to detail and some hard work, I started feeling better every week. I am sticking to my regimen and I'm very excited for my renewed physical and mental strength. I can't recommend Step and Spine enough. My back pain is gone, Amazing !!! I saw Glen for my back pain which was excruciatingly painful. I can't even put into words how much pain I had in my back, radiating down my leg. Barrett and the rest of the folks at Step & Spine were fantastic. I saw them because of a lower back injury (caused by a ride at California Adventure!) that was sporadically so painful that I was hesitant to go on any hikes over a mile or so. After several weeks of treatment, and advice for exercises at home, I felt much improved--no regular pain and I knew how to alleviate the pain when it did occur. After a bad car accident that left me with intense vertigo, I was recommended to Laura. After a few tests, Laura diagnosed and treated the vertigo in one visit. After a few weeks, it did end up coming back, but after one more visit to Laura, it was gone again-- for good. I was amazed at both her knowledge and care. She is incredibly pleasant and caring, and in terms of both friendliness and effectiveness, she was one of two (amongst many) of my favorite doctors in my recovery from the accident. Step & Spine injures people! My wife went there for therapy on one sprained ankle and ended up with two sprained ankles and a sprained hip! She was first treated by a student, who was not supervised, my wife was not told the person was a student and she was not asked if it was okay for a student to work on her. Then, when trying to work with Barrett Ford, the owner of Step & Spines in Bend, Redmond, and Sisters, to treat her ankles, he sprained her hip! Or, as another Physical Therapist put it to my wife, "you were assaulted". And Barrett Ford had the gall to charge for those visits! read more
