Harumph I say! (And I had just paid for that insult by purchasing her wine - WTH?) I took it all well and reminded her that folks also like wines that have a tobacco flavor.. not to mention leather? This great winery has a very experienced and knowledgeable host, Tom. The wine was great. I tasted the rose and the white- then decided on a glass of rose and took home a bottle of the white (Viognier.) Tom entertained me for the time that I was there with his experiences of 40 years of building vineyards, but met me on my level of not knowing much about the winemaking process. They also have wine paraphernalia and arts for sale. Great experience, highly recommended.

They produce mostly reds but there was one white and one sold out Rose when we visited. The winery is owned by a couple whose home is on the property. No food is available. There is a large patio space and a small indoor space.

They began with moonshine - apple pie and cherry pie varieties - and have expanded to an award winning whiskey! The apple pie moonshine is a consistent favorite drink and is classified squarely in the "dangerous" category as it goes down way to easily! The cherry pie is solid as well, but not nearly as sweet. The whiskey is excellent as well and goes great in a libation. During the COVID crisis, they flexed their creative muscles and started distilling alcohol for hand sanitizer- sources most of what they needed from folks in the area. It was quite a nice display! They sell in plenty of local stores as well as from their garage. They've also got some swag for sale and the shirts look good! They're a great bunch, making a great product! Using yelp we found a few but Swede Hill stuck out to me. With only two reviews and both at 5 stars, I was excited to try something new. Pam and Kevin are so nice and welcoming! They have such a cute set up and welcoming committee in their puppy, Susie. Kevin starting distilling as a hobby and has turned it into a line or spirits worth trying. Moonshine (apple and cherry pie), raspberry vodka and a whiskey too! All super good and easy to drink and especially dangerous. Both are very knowledgeable and will entertain your questions about the distilling process. I feel like this is a stop I must make whenever stopping in Yakima! Definitely call ahead to make a reservation since it is such a small operation.

Portteus has been in the valley since 1981, one of only 13 wineries in the state at that time. They continue to produce some very good wine, some extremely well priced. The tasting room is in a section of the warehouse so no ambiance though a large enough space for many visitors. The tastings were the smallest I've ever seen so sharing one is not feasible. As with most wineries, if you make a purchase the tasting fee is waived. If you visit there in the cold months bring your coat and gloves.

It's one of the farther out Zillow wineries, though everything is realistically within a couple of miles of each other. As we were approaching, I was reminded of the introduction to nearly every Berenstein Bears book... down a sunny dirt road, deep in wine country is a winery being run by a lovely family who's been doing it for about 35 years. The tasting room sits just off the back of the house, and while it's nothing super fancy, definitely gets the job done. They have both red and white varieties, and things range from sweet, to dry, with everything in between. We ended up sampling 4 whites and about 10 reds, many of which we really ended up enjoying. We particularly liked the old vine Cabernet, which was quite different from the newer vine Cabernet. The Petit Syrah and Petit Verdot were also quite lovely. We also sampled a very nice Port - The kinds that leaves you feeling a little bit warm inside. Definitely the sort of thing that's best had on a colder day, specifically after you've been shoveling snow! To cleanse the palate, fish crackers were available on the counter....winning! The wines here were middle of the road as far as pricing. Bottles range from $12 up to $50 for the port, with most falling In the $20 range. We were very happy with the tastings and what we took home! It's a bit of a drive, but you've already driven a ways so it's worth checking out what quickly became one of our favorite spots in the area! Well worth your time!

I am genuinely embarrassed that I brought my team here…read more I made a reservation. They knew ahead of time that I was bringing my team for a meeting. We showed up, ordered wine and pizzas, and planned to enjoy the winery while we met. Within about five minutes of arriving, I was approached twice about parking because they had "customers coming." Except... we WERE customers. There was also a reservation for a group of 18 that day. That group arrived on bicycles, which were not parked in the parking lot. And throughout our approximately three-hour visit, multiple tables remained empty. Our photographer had already spent probably 15 minutes talking with staff before we arrived and was waved in and directed where to go. Nobody told him that he needed to park somewhere else. Then suddenly, once the rest of us arrived, moving vehicles became incredibly urgent. That pretty much set the tone for the entire experience. Then there was the wine. Five fruit flies poured out of one of our bottles of wine into the glass. We brought it to their attention. The response was, "Would you like a new glass?" A new glass. My husband did raise concerns about the way we were being treated. When other customers arrived, I specifically quieted that conversation because I did not want our experience to interfere with theirs. So I was particularly surprised when management later accused my husband of yelling at a staff member in front of guests. That absolutely did not happen, and I was there. We stayed approximately three hours and spent money, although by that point I honestly ordered food partly because I felt obligated to. I already wanted to leave. I was embarrassed that I had chosen this place for my team because I did not feel like we were wanted there. And here's the part that makes the whole thing especially unfortunate from a business standpoint: eight people in our group are business owners. Four own multiple businesses and were specifically exploring this winery as somewhere they might return to in the future. Not because we deserved special treatment. We didn't. But we absolutely expected to be treated like customers. Unfortunately, the response from management afterward made the experience worse. I was told that what we had wasn't a "reservation," it was a "three-hour meeting." Yes. It was a meeting. They knew it was a meeting when I made the reservation. If meetings aren't welcome, say that when someone tells you they're bringing a group for a meeting. If there's a time limit, say that. If there are specific parking requirements, say that. None of those things were communicated to me beforehand. I love supporting local businesses. I especially love introducing other people to local businesses I enjoy. Unfortunately, I won't be introducing anyone else to this one, because I won't be back.
