And wander I did in Churchill's, through shelf after shelf of fiction, non fiction, vintage titles. I eventually left with a paperback I'd never heard of, a first edition of one of my old favorites, and a cool 1980 comic book that just struck my fancy. But more than the things I bought, what I really found in the meandering shelves of this little bookshop was the sense that there could be some treasure waiting for me around the next corner. In this little space filled with books of all kinds, Churchill's captures the feeling of discovery that all good bookstores have and online bookstores just can't replicate. My kids weren't with me this time, but I could hear them as I wrapped up my visit to Churchill's bookshop. "Come ON Dad, let's goooo already." I had to smile. I can always tell it's a great bookstore when I can hear my kids telling me I've spent too long wandering its shelves.

With both used and new books on the shelves, the prices are quite reasonable. Their "blind date with a book" feature is a fun addition and a great way to encourage trying new books. While I often prefer a bookstore that encourages exploration and comes with a little mystery, a place like Encore Books is perfect when you're looking for that one book you can't seem to find anywhere else. I lost track of what I did with it and they moved to Tri-Cities. Over 20 years later I came across it from one of my boxes in storage. I since moved from Spokane and now live over 3 hours drive from their current location. Last week (September of 2026) I had planned a trip and decided to bring the certificate with me as I was traveling through their area. I spoke to an extremely helpful associate who contacted the current owner of the business and was thankful and amazed to say that she still honored the gift certificate!!! This store is FILLED with soooo much cool stuff. I could've easily had a certificate for $5,000 let alone $50 and still barely scratch the surface of their awesome inventory!!! While I was waiting in line, a customer behind me mentioned that she travels over 100 miles from Pendleton, OR to shop there. I don't blame her! Jerrol's also has a nice selection of foods, products, art supplies and much more. Its a small town feel type of establishment and everyone so far has been informative and friendly.
