A physical…read moretherapist sent us here to get them several years ago and the orthotics have been working well for him so we continue to go back each year for new ones as his foot grows. You'll need a prescription from a Dr to be seen, which I always get easily from our pediatrician. I book our appointments a year out since they get busy. I have changed appointments on occasion, which can be difficult to find a time, but doable. We are usually in and out within 45 minutes for appointment #1 and then back about a month later to get the actual orthotics. It can be challenging to find the right shoes to fit them in, but i"ve found new balance wide sneakers work best. All the staff here are great and I see no reason we won't continue to go here for our orthotic needs.

We are first time parents and in our family we are the first parents to have a child with clubfeet…read more Even with all the research, conversations with doctors, there are still so many unknowns and questions when it comes to clubfoot. Our 3 month baby has finally transitioned from the cast to the Dobbs Bar. When we went to get them fitted we against didn't know what to expect. We took the technicians words very seriously. He said "tight is never tight enough" and continued to tighten the straps. As he did this our baby screamed at the top of his lungs. We just assumed because this was a new contraption and the Dobbs bar forced his feet into a new position he was just uncomfortable. As the night continued he continued to scream, and through additional research and blogs we thought this was a normal reaction. He wasn't sleeping properly, and his milk intake dropped to half. We started to worry and went through the possible check list of what could be the issue outside of the bar. By the next day (still within the 23 hour wear period) he was a completely different baby, my husband made the executive decision to take the boots off and see if that was the issue and it was. Our sons feet was swollen, blood shot red and blistered due to how tight he technician put his boots on. From everything we read these were ALL the things we needed to avoid, but due to the technicians hurry he continued to tighten the boots. We rushed to the pediatrician office, they confirmed no fever, infection, and did a full check up to make sure he was ok. Thankfully our baby is extremely resilient, but now he must be without cast or boots for at least 4 days and will most likely be recasted once his blisters heal. Causing what we think will be regression of his clubfeet. Our advice listen to your baby!! The technician isn't always correct, and they treat every patient like a they are some cookie cutter subject. I don't recommend this clinic for boots and bar fitting. If you do go there because it's convenient, question question question the technician. If your child is screaming at the top of their lungs, stop everything and check the feet. If they continue to scream at home, remove the boots check the skin and put the boots back on yourself.

Mine took a year and a bone stimulator . That's just the way I heal and I knew this from a previous fusion C5,6-6,7 ... my body is different in that bone grafts typically take longer to heal . Dr. Shapiro put me at ease when he introduced and said , "please call me Gary" I was raised to respect doctors and generally speak to them as "Doctor" After all 10 years of school warrants respect , right? I don't think , Dr. Shapiro has had to wait this long for a fusion to heal, but he let me make all my own choices , such as a bone stimulator in lieu of more surgery ... he was also generous with his time when he saw me .. my fusion has since healed and now I am ready to do the strengthening work to get back to work ...Thank you , Dr. Shapiro !! I would definitely recommend this surgeon for serious back surgery ... you are in good hands ! Carrie Cozzi

I had difficulty seeing anything up close with the contacts I wore that were based on her prescription. Reading books, checking my watch, or reading on my phone was impossible due to the blurriness. It bothered me for 2 years, and I was very frustrated with the issue. I asked her to adjust the prescription several times. She made slight adjustments, which were not helpful. She finally told me she could do no more, or I would have trouble seeing things far away. She also told me that it was normal to have blurry vision while wearing contacts when looking at things close up because contacts are different than glasses. This was incorrect information! I wasn't sure what the problem was, but I figured it was my eyes. Eventually, due to the discomfort, I gave up wearing contacts unless it was absolutely necessary. The issue was finally resolved when I took a trip to Taiwan and consulted an optometrist there who told me that the prescription Dr. Dalporto gave me was entirely wrong and too strong. They said that she should not have simply given me a prescription based on whatever the vision test machine determined. Every prescription needs to be adjusted based on each individual's lifestyle and habits so that anything--both close up and at a distance--can be seen clearly and comfortably. I received a new prescription, and when I tried the new contacts, I immediately noticed a huge difference. They were so comfortable, and I had no trouble seeing or reading things on a computer, on my phone, or close up. The problem I had with blurriness that had been bothering me for years was finally resolved! Now I can wear contacts again--every day, all day. I went back to Dr. Dalporto and asked her to adjust the prescription on file based on the new prescription. She simply copied the numbers directly from the Taiwanese prescription and checked my vision. It was 20/20, of course. Had she actively tried her best to help me achieve the most comfortable and accurate prescription years ago, I would not have suffered so much with blurry vision when trying to see things close up! When I complained, the office manager was cold and impatient and didn't apologize for all the trouble I had been through. Instead, she asked me, "Is there anything else?" At this point, I was so fed up with this mess and so shocked at the customer service I received that I decided to change optometrists completely for my own vision care. One of the fundamental jobs of an optometrist is to give correct, comfortable contact lens prescriptions to patients. If they fail to provide an accurate prescription, it raises serious doubts about their professional competence. This experience proved to me that Dr. Dalporto doesn't care about her patients' vision, nor does she try her best to solve the vision issues they have. Instead, she is very passive, only does what she is asked to do (but poorly), and performs vision tests that a robot could do. In a word, she is incompetent. Don't go to Dr. Dalporto. She is totally unprofessional and won't give you a correct prescription!

When we left the massage parlor we had to get to the other side of a busy highway by going up the stairs, crossing an overhead walkway & down the stairs on the other side of the road. When I took the first step down my left knee popped & pain shot through my leg (so much for an awesome massage). Anyway my knee has been in an up and down cycle. Lately it has been bothering me & creating enough pain to want to go see an orthopedic doctor. I called up Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) After talking to my nephew (who use to work for IBJI in Gurnee I called IBJI @ 9am. Amazing I had an appointment @ 10am. This IBJI is located @ 9000 Waukegan Road where ABT use to be located. I scheduled an appointment w/Dr Raab an orthopedic surgeon. Kelly his Nurse Practitioner came in and assessed the situation. They took me in to get an X-ray of my knee & brought me back to the exam room. After waiting for a while Dr Rabb came in examined my leg. After examining my leg he noticed swelling on the knee but and told me there was liquid on my knee joint. He then proceeded to extract the liquid & give me a shot of cortisone which greatly reduced the swelling & pain. I was told to get a knee compression sock which really helps to further stabilize my knee. Both Dr Raab & Kelly were very friendly & personable making the visit more enjoyable. The best part is Dr Raab didn't feel that I needed to have knee surgery yet.

I was referred to him after I had an upper tubular fracture (and also fractured some ribs) in the summer of 2014, during my one, and only, exciting attempt, at DOWNHILL mountain biking. Now, I did not realize I was injured after I fell off the bike. Since I could still walk, I figured I was fine. That was the rule we had as kids, right? If you can get up, you're OK? (Maybe I was just was looked after by older people, but that is what I remembered from my childhood.) Well, maybe I wasn't quite "fine", maybe I needed a drink, because I'm older than I used to be, but, after that, I was "A-OK". I developed a nasty bruise, but I figured, I might bruise easily. I was NOT going to be a wimp. Of course, I couldn't really bike at all with the broken ribs, so I became extremely frustrated with myself for not taking enough spin classes, and being so,"out of shape". I dragged my luggage back to Chicago, then decided, a few days later, maybe I SHOULD call the doctor. I just did not seem to be improving, and the bruise was looking a lot worse. Surprise! My arm wasn't healing because it was broken, but hadn't been immobilized. That bruise was internal bleeding from the break and a partially torn rotator cuff. Since driving with the arm sling I was ordered to wear is illegal in Illinois, I went back to Whistler, where at least you can walk around day or night. I really didn't care for the arm sling. I was just a little like the dog in "Up" in his "Cone of Shame". It was a sad. I returned to Chicago sans the sling, and had a few more x-rays over the next few months. My doctor was concerned because the fracture was not completely healed, according to the radiologist at ENH Vernon Hills. I was a bit perplexed by this, because my arm seemed to hurt a lot less after I found out it broken and stopped doing things, like lifting heavy objects. I felt OK, except my broken ribs limited my physical activity. My doctor suggested I see Dr. Portland, feeling that based on the radiologist's reports, I may need monitoring or surgery on my shoulder. I agreed, although I was not too happy about this development. When I arrived, I was seen quickly by Dr. Portland's student. He asked me to move my arm into a number of positions. He asked if I had any pain (no). He said my arm was very "functional", for this point in the healing process, which sounded good to me. Doctor Portland came next in and did the same thing. Then he asked why I had come to see him. I told him about the radiologist's reports and my doctor. He chuckled, and said, "I guess that the advantage of having seen a number of these injuries". Then, he showed me my x-rays. Basically, he said it was a tiny spot that could "barely" be seen, and I would be fine. Then, he apologized for the consultation being so,"short". I thought that was funny. Good news delivered quickly is my idea of the perfect consultation, really. Dr. Portland appeared to have a lot experience, and I found him to be very pleasant. I would definitely go back to him, if I had a problem with my knee or shoulder, and required the care of a specialist.
