Steins has been around for a lot of years and they get a steady flow of regular customers every day. These are the kind of customers that go about their business and rarely write reviews. How else could a business survive with a somewhat low rating? I come here for bagels and that's it. I did try ordering ahead once and it just didn't work out. My order never got prepared, so I just walk in, go to the counter and get my 4 bagels. The line isn't usually long and moves quickly. The price recently went up, and it's $1.50 per bagel. You want spreads and stuff? That adds more. They have a large selection for the usual deli items - sandwiches, salads, bagels, spreads, coffee and other beverages. Plus there's plenty of indoor seating, along with a few outdoor tables. All of their bagels are usually large and fluffy - the satisfying kind. I had an enjoyable breakfast sandwich here on a cold winter's morning. The service was fine. You order at the counter and wait till your food is ready to pay. We are a family that swear by wheat products (gluten-free people don't really get along with us at mealtimes :-)) so our bread bin and pasta pantry are always full. I stopped in because traffic took me a different way to work. Place looked nice and clean. Ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter. $3.20 !!!!! FOR A ROUND PEICE OF BREAD!!!! Anyway got to work and when I opened it, it just looked like a raisin bagel. Ok, let's see how it tastes. If it wasn't for the raisins there would be no flavor at all. Very disappointed. I've been here a couple times. Mostly for coffee. The staff is nice. The food was okay. I ordered two croissant sandwiches and the size of the croissants were smaller than the standard for the price I was charged. It would have been a better value if I got an actual sandwich or gotten it on a bagel because the rolls and bagels were standard size. I have been in the food service industry for over 30+years- Ordered Matzah Ball Soup on sign says $5.50 and extra $1.00 for Matzah Ball - when it rang up more I told them it was wrong - they said no its more. I said the sign said less... they said your wrong sir and tossed the printed flyer at me and said the flyer is right. Mind you it was only .50 more but they insisted rudely and then tossed the flyer on the counter in front me ?? Was staying at the Courtyard Marriott right across the stress and got tired of paying $20 bucks for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Found this and decided to try. I absolutely loved my food. Fresh, hot and so yummy. Very clean space. HOWEVER, there was a Hispanic woman in the front who's attitude was distasteful! I ordered online, and when I went into the store, the nice man in the front had some confusion finding my order, no big deal. The woman rudely began to state one of my sandwiches were not made. Also in a rude manner, with her back to me, stated "I was calling you and you didn't answer so it's not done!", then said to the man "well, she didn't answer". The whole time I stood there trying to process and calmly respond. The thing is I never got a missed call and she couldn't give me the number she attempted to call. The man asked if I wanted a refund, I said no, it's an easy fix, change the bread. But what I really can not respect is a nasty attitude towards a patron. It really disgusted me. I had a terrible experience in this cafe, rude staff, and horrible gluten-free bagel and when I complained they told me there was nothing they could do. The gluten-free bagel was small, flat like a cracker, and dripping in butter. They wiped the bagel off, didn't wear gloves and when I told who looked like a manager or owner that this would be the last time I am coming to this place, she said good, don't come back. I sat down to try and eat the bagel and couldn't, I left it there and walked out. I'll give them 3.5 stars. I have had both breakfast and lunch here. More a fan of their sandwiches than their bagels. They have a very large menu board with sandwiches, salads, paninni's, grill items and much more. I find it a little overwhelming but they make a decent sandwich. The price is a little on the higher side but in line with the rest of the delis in the area. The sandwiches are large in size and very filling. This place has gone down the pooper. Don't know whether or not its due to the fact no one of authority (owner/manager) is ever present, but the staff is careless, slow, complacent. Just today, my wife went to pick up egg sandwiches on bagels, and we found they gave us sandwiches without eggs and hardly cooked taylor ham (still very pink). We have been going to Steins on the weekends for years now, and lately all we notice is the steady decline. They are comparatively more pricey to other shops, and in the past the service and quality of food made up for it. Now it has become somewhere to avoid. If someone there decides to make changes, here are my suggestions: 1. Get the food orders right. I dont mind waiting, but make me wait and then get my order wrong? Time to go somewhere else. 2. There's usually a long line, so have your staff more attentive to your customers and actively shortening the line. Your staff playing around, having conversations, and essentially ignoring the long line of people while customers are watching this go on is an insult to them. 3. Change the layout or your POS system so everything is streamlined. Walking back and forth down the length of the store for every charge on a credit card is ridiculous. 4. Have a pickup area for phone orders so people who call in orders don't have to wait on the same line as people who go and order their food. The front area that is designated as a pickup area your whole staff ignores. 5. Don't advertise text messaging of orders if no one on your staff responds to it. read more

There is something to be said about bagels from North.The bagels must need the dirty Hudson river water to get that right sense of fluff. I got a variety of bagels here for a hungry bridal party, and thankfully had coupons to get some free cream cheese. The bagels were super soft and fresh, that three days later they were still perfect! They seem to have a variety of sandwiches and baked goods to choose from, but I'm sold just on the bagels. Prices were comparable to other bagel spots around. They have decent seating area as well. Sadly the service could use a little smile, we had an issue with our coupon and there was unnecessary attitude given and the owner/mgr just blew us off. This is my go to lunch spot at work. It is a great deli/bagel place in walking distance from my office. Parking can be a nightmare so I try and go before the lunch crowd or after. My favorite lunch is the cranberry chicken salad on a whole wheat bagel. They make the best chicken salad around with their extra ingredients.
