Service was quick and top-notch. Our waitress was awesome. We really liked her and talked to her quite a bit about living in Hot Springs. She even produce a little side of the curry sauce for us to try. It was so good. We really liked it. It was very nice of her to do that for us. The food was phenomenal true German cuisine. My wife had spent a few years living in Germany and she claims the food is extremely authentic. We had dinner there two nights; the first night was appetizers/soup, the next a complete dinner. Marvelous. We had the paprikash and a steak dish. Both were great but the sides were the stars. Came here with my bf on a trip to Hot Springs and was my favorite restaurant we tried! We had the pretzel and soup flight to start and it came with four different soups. We liked the different flavors, my favor being the beer cheese and sauerkraut while his was the goulash and sausage ones. We sat outside since we brought our dog and it was so cozy in the middle of this courtyard vibe patio. They used to have a dog menu but I believe they got rid of it a while ago. However, our server was awesome and offered a couple options for her off menu. It was busy and we were being a bit indecisive on food so he suggested the beef roast which was incredible. Came on a Saturday and was promptly seated after making an open table reservation which I find convenient. New appetizer with onion and bacon was super tasty and came out super quick. Our server was very attentive but the food did run super long so expect a wait. Only feedback was the goulash little too salty for my liking and side dishes all came out barely warm. We have been here in the past. Now you have to use a credit card to hold your reservation. We were seated promptly upon arrival. For those of you have kids, they do offer a kids menu. They have several draft beers on tap, but for a taster, it costs $2 and for a specialty beer, it is $4. At this point, I feel as though I am being nickeled and dimed to death, but I rolled with it. I ordered a Spaten Oktoberfest on draft and it was decent quality. The Saturday night that we came, they were out of the veal special at 6:00, and they did not open until 3:00, so I am guessing that the special had a pretty successful Friday night. For my entree, I ordered the meatloaf with red cabbage and candied Brussel sprouts. The cost of the entree was $25, and it came with bread service. For the price, I am hoping that the portion size is decent. Side note: It seems as though in the past, the meal also came with salad, but I might be mistaken. Bread service came out before the meal and had an assortment of rolls (not homemade). Bread was warm but butter was cold so did not really melt Food came out hot and was decent. Check your tickets though because they do nickel and dime you here. They added a $5 surcharge for a kids meal even though the kids meal is for 12 and under even though my daughter is still 12... if you don't know please don't assume. Waitress took the charge off without question but it is still awkward to have to point it out as a customer. We started out with the sauerkraut soup and then had Rouladen and Wurst with sauerkraut, potato pancakes and German potato salad. It was perfectly paired with excellent German beer! The restaurant is on the first floor of a super cool building. You are surrounded by beautiful wood and stone while "Oma" plays the accordion! (I'm not sure who was playing but she was awesome). Atmosphere is very good with a separate bar for those who partake. Great menu with almost everything you might find in Germany. I had the Black Forest schnitzel (sorry, I didn't take a picture) with 2 sides (pommes frites and potato pancake and a small bit of apple sauce). The portion was so large that I could only eat 1/3 of it. My wife had jager schnitzel (her first time ever) with Brussel sprouts that she raved about. She too had a large portion to take home. Absolute worst dinning experience Service was so ridiculously slow People who arrived after us got their food when we questioned it. They kept saying they would go check on. I spoke with the manager and manager went to talk to the waitress, then finally came back and talked to us and said he needs to figure out what happened, but it would come out of the waitresses paycheck because it was her error not the kitchen error . We said that's completely rude! Manager insisted she must pay for her error. We told them to forget it and we would just make sure that everyone knew what a poor manager he was. Four years ago we ate here (out of towners) and it was so note worthy we couldn't wait to come back. Happily made a reservation and ate there last night. The waitress we had was great. Friendly, great attitude and quick. The schnitzel was pretty good and the pretzel with cheese dip was great. We ordered around 7 things because we like to try a variety and then take the food back to the Airbnb and pick at it for several days. From the moment we were met at the door by the hostess things seemed different than the last few times we visited this restaurant. We did not have a reservation but it was pretty early so we did not think that would be an issue. On observation the outside area had 1-3 tables occupied the remaining were empty. My husband decided on a beer and I ordered a signature cocktail from the menu. The cocktail arrived and for $17 I would have expected more than a 3oz drink at best. Few moments later the bartender shows up with another that was about double the size but we she realized I already had one the took it away. Left me wondering if they have a standard. Next we ordered a pretzel and VEAL Jager Schnitzel. The pretzel was great but the "beer cheese" that was served in a gravy boat with no small plates was confusing and not tasty. When the snitzel arrived it looked amazing but since we were sharing a plate I would have thought we would have gotten and extra plate, but no. About 1/2 way through the dish I realized it was not veal it was pork. I have a mild pork allergy and I was obviously upset and disappointed. We I brought it up to the waiter he said he would talk to the manager so he could take the $4-5 up charge off since we got pork not veal. Are you kidding me? You're going to act like you are doing me a favor for charging me for what I got but did not order? Didn't argue just paid for my meal. Going out the door I asked for the Manager. Matt met us at the front and was less than nice and blamed me for not telling them I had an allergy. I don't have to disclose that when I order the VEAL!! That is your mistake! When my husband pointed that out he asked us to leave the restaurant. I also happed to look over and the beer garden was still empty. We had a GREAT dinner here! We've eaten at many German restaurants and this food was way above the norm. My husband had the Madagascar Schnitzel...that sauce! I had the Beer Cheese soup, This was not the normal kind that I've seen. You could tell it had a chefs touch cooked down with celery/carrots. Just enough to bring in more flavor. This restaurant is incredible so, you might be wondering why im rating it 3 stars. They have a sign outside that says REAL Good German as their slogan or something. But im going to tell you right now that the sausage (bratwurst) is not traditional in the slightest. Their bratwurst is reddish (when well done) and grayish when served without requesting it to be well done. REAL bratwurst is supposed to be white and traditionally is cooked so the skin is bursted in the middle. But for whatever reason the cooks don't know how to do that which is actually psycho when your making people think that this is REAL German. It is not. The cooks had such little idea that it took them an hour and a half to freakin cook it. The sausage tasted good but I hate that they pretend that its authentic to people who don't know better. This is the second German restaurant i have been to that said they are authentic but the bratwurst wasn't. The bratwurst isn't even made out of veal according to our server (who was pretty nice). Don't go here for a REAL bratwurst experience but if you like good food, then this is the place. read more

They started with a bread service but pace yourself, or you'll be full before the entree arrives. The trout dip was amazing and served with enough crackers to finish the dip. Their specialty cocktails were amazing, and my chicken paprikash tasted just like my grandma's cooking. My issue was the service. I never got my second cocktail and had to ask that it be removed from the bill. And our food took really long. The dining area looked unfinished, like it was someone's unfinished basement. Sometimes, the exposed brick can create a great atmosphere, but it just looked thrown together with not a lot of thought on the ambiance they are trying to create. read more

Since it was a special occasion, I DM'd the restaurant's instagram account to see about particular accommodations like a secluded table and nice ambiance for the dinner. They could not have been more helpful! They brought out champagne with sparklers - which we weren't even expecting! - and the kitchen manager personally came out and paid special attention to my mother's diet, who has Alpha Gal syndrome (she can't eat certain foods). Lynette and I stopped here while on a road trip. It's just a little bit off the main drag, so we didn't have to put up with all the mobs of tourists. It's very close to the convention center. The atmosphere is incredible. Legit beirgarten. It's located downstairs in a basement with some outdoor patio dining as well. It was Saturday night, and they had some live music. Nothing intrusive, just nice background music. Lynette had the bratwurst plate, and I had the Jager schnitzel. Both were very good. But the Black Forest cake was awesome. One of my top restaurant choices for when I visit Hot Springs. I have enjoyed every item that I have tried on the menu. I really look forward to returning to this restaurant since our most recent trip to central Europe because as I look back on the menu; there are many more items that I want to try. An intriguing gem; a decent survey of German cuisine with some traditional stateside fare with an occasional Rathskeller touch. Tucked down on the sublevel off the street, iron stairs lead down to a Biergarten atrium and a labyrinthine dining area. It's fantastic. You kind of descend from the street into a different locale. They've apparently taken negative comment to heart when it comes to seating and wait times. I booked on Open Table, was texted 11 minutes before our reservation and told the table was ready. I confirmed we were on the way; once inside we were seated...immediately. The staff was warm, hospitable, and attentive to our requests. Something came up early, we had to leave urgently after ordering, and I suspect our waitress moved our food on the fly (which I boxed and ate later). This was exceptional and par excellence; despite dealing with a crisis, now that I think about it, it was hard to notice my socks rolling up and down while dealing with emergency. When I did get to the food, man, oh man, K-f'in'-O. Brief aside: I love German food. I'm of German decent, my Grandfather own a deli in Memphis that did mom and pop Reubens, vinegar slaw, kraut, and German potato salad. Occasionally I can rook my dad into making pretty decent rouladen; a rare treat is sauerbraten. The varieties offered by SK were better, tastier, substantial (portion wise). Highlights: the sauerbraten: the sauce that covers the meat...save the bread they give you. The sauce deserves to be sopped up with bread and devoured. The beef was excellent. Large chunks of potato salad was sweet, sour, earthy. The earthy being an unexpected but welcomed variation. The klopse: dense but loose, if that makes sense; the sauce, rich and velvety/buttery. The stuffed shroom: more of the same. The frikadellen: more of the same! There was nothing that I didn't like. Hell, the fries were even good! The cabbage rolls were above average, but not the best I've ever had (looking at you, Polonia in Hammtramck, MI), but still damned good. All told, go. Go sooner rather than later. Starve yourself. But on your elastic waisted trousers, be a glutton, order whatever you damned well please and be prepared to enjoy every morsel. Order too much? The food travel well and makes remarkably good leftovers. If there's anything to be said that's critical of SK, it's that the dining room is loud; it's a restaurant in a basement, er, grotto. SK is 4.8 stars; and 5 star places don't get rounded up. They're unicorns. SK is a magnificent Clydesdale, big, muscle-bound, dragging a draught-cart and feeding all it comes across to the ovation of each and every individual. This place was amazing. We didn't intend to end up here but were so happy we did. The dishes were aithentic and flavorful - I loved my schnitzel and my wife loved her stroganoff. The sauerkraut made me nostalgic for childhood in Baltimore where kraut was a staple side dish. The dunkelweiiss on draft was wonderful. We are visiting Hot Springs to come and eat this specific German food, we had a reservation, but still had to wait 30 minutes for our table. I ended up ordering the mushroom soup to start off. It was probably one of the best mushroom soups I've ever had. It included, homemade croutons and drizzled with truffle oil which I have never had before. For our main entrée, we shared the Jager schnitzel pork which came with two sides. We ordered the potato pancake with applesauce, the brussels sprouts covered in beer cheese, cucumber salad and German potato salad. The food was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend everything we had. The service is the only reason it's getting a four star. We had been searching for a place to eat on a Saturday evening. Appears one must plan ahead and place a reservation in this town. This was the 3rd stop and at least they had spots at the bar. We saw 4 tables open and assumed those were for reservations. We had a good vantage point of both sides of the restaurant and could even see the musician playing the accordion. However, the bar stools were not made for hours at the bar. The bar staff was very attentive and took good care of us. Our Käsespätzle Vorspeise was out quickly and that was really enough to feed 6. Then right on time, our main course came out. I had the Jäger Schnitzel with Rotkohl and Kartoffelsalat. All was really good! Hat allen super geschmeckt! While not cheap, it was nice to have Deutsche Küche for a change. (I lived in Germany for 5 years in the early 1980's). Those 4 empty tables turned into 7 and stayed open, thus a loss of a star.
