Island Oaks RV Resort

Island Oaks RV Resort

Second and last time we will come to Island Oaks. The facility itself is nice and clean. However,…read morewe paid $170 a night last weekend 3/6-3/8 and will never go back. One of the main reasons we went was to enjoy the pool. On Friday night the pool and hot tub were full of unsupervised children. The hot tub clearly states 18 and older, yet nobody was out there to enforce this. Also stated kids should not be left at pool alone. Parents were inside at the bar while the kids ran crazy around the place. Saturday was much worse. We got to the pool around 11:00 am and all the chairs were taken up. Most just had a towel thrown on them. Then a large group came in and set their coolers right on the edge of the pool. They also had a very large speaker that they put on full blast with their own music. On top of that, they continued to pull drink after drink from the cooler. Later, they ate sandwiches and chips all while in the pool! At 2:00 pm another group came in and pulled out there large speaker and played on the other end of the pool. Now there was the two groups music plus the resort music playing. The second group also brought a dog in. Turns out both groups were not staying at the resort!!! They were there on day passes. They come in and stay all day and into the evening to watch the band. We were at the pool for four hours before we gave up. During that time, one guy who worked for the resort walked around and never said anything to these obnoxious groups that were obviously breaking the rules. Additionally, nobody came back to the chairs that just had towels lying on them! Other families left because of the swearing and a few mentioned the "F" words on people's hat and t-shirts as something they did not appreciate their kids seeing. It is a shame because this used to be a family friendly resort. Now, they allow the locals to come in and take it over. With the prices they charge for the sites, you should have to be staying there to enjoy the facilities. We will never book there again and ran into at least four other campers that said the same thing.

So it's not my preferred camping area but the wife wanted to go. Overall a clean place, nice staff…read moreand all hookups, that being said there's little to no shade on any site, all small newly planted trees so it will be.a decade before they offer shade. It rained and none of the sites seem to absorb water, likely because of the clear cutting, didn't help they decided to mow even though the grass wasn't tall so that left ruts of water everywhere. Nice amenities and kid friendly, if you like parking lot camping and just hanging out then it's nice, me I'd rather have waterfalls and trail hikes.

The Blanche - Lovely lobby, zero people.

Looks like a nice hotel but " lacking in customer service…read moreand processes. I made a reservation on Hotels.com and they cancelled my reservation next day "at my request". When I followed up with property I was told they are fully booked with wedding and Hotels.com aka "third party" should have not allowed my reservation to go through. Could is be that ....hotel's interface with "third party" is actually a hotel responsibly too! Perhaps, I am sorry it happened could be a standard of customer service, not just "anything else we can do for you?"

My experience at the Blanche? Beautifully strange…read more I'll explain. First off the hotel is as beautiful as advertised. From the lobby to the grand staircases, the artwork to the perfectly polished wood. It's all gorgeous. The rooms are also very nice too. Historic yet well maintained. The bedding and decor is spectacular, and even though the rooms are east-facing there are blackout blinds to keep that unforgiving morning sun at bay. Now, why the strange part? Because for the two days I was there, I saw ZERO humans in the entire hotel. For starters, everything is automated. My reservation was done online. I got texted an entry code to the property and to my room. And checkout was all via door code and online too. Never in the entire experience from booking to stay, did I speak to or see another human. And for a hotel experience, that's just weird. So, The Blanche. Definitely better than staying at a chain hotel. Great value. Stunning beauty. Eery silence. Finally, let me add this. There are several one star reviews of this place talking about a bar, roaches and no parking - I can say with confidence those reviews are not accurate whatsoever. This place is clean, quiet and very easy to park at, in fact I parked about 10 feet from the front door for free.

We were warned that there were only 2 wait staff on at the time, and to be patient. To that, our waitress had the sweetest southern accent, her name started with an M, she was amazing. She handled her section, yes we waited but had no real complaints. The prices were a bit out of line with the food offerings. I paid $25.99 for some tender, juicy shrimp and $29.99 for a plate of "fried scallop" all were the size of a nickle and tasted like punched ray wing. I iver heard another customer state that they would like more chicken in their Chicken Alfredo, as the serving they got, 4 peices was ridiculous for the price they charge.

A very entertaining, true Florida, off the beaten path experience. While the restaurant is not the best in the world, it's pretty good and the only option on a Tuesday night that we could find. The place was crowded and we were taken care of with the right level of attention. We stayed in the newly remodeled first floor of one of the buildings. There's still lots of cleanup and re-building to do. It's a little sad to see Steinhatchee suffer so much. But glad to see folks trying to make a go of life again.
