This place should be called "Bad Times." We booked a boat…read morerental months in advance for a scalloping weekend with friends. Check-in went smoothly, but when we took our paperwork to the dock, we were told they didn't actually have the boat we reserved. They put us in a different boat, which wasn't ideal, but we accepted it and enjoyed our first day. We had rented the boat for two days, so we kept the keys overnight as instructed. The next morning, we arrived to find that our boat was gone. They had rented it to someone else, even though we had already paid for a two-day rental. Since every marina in the area was fully booked for the weekend, this completely disrupted our plans. Their solution was simply to offer us a refund and send us on our way--no apology, no effort to help us find another boat, and no concern for the fact that our weekend had been ruined. Only after we made it clear that this wasn't an acceptable solution did they suddenly "find" another boat for us. Then, to make matters worse, they told us we would have to pay for a half-day rental on this replacement boat. At that point, we just wanted to salvage what was left of our weekend, so we agreed and planned to sort it out later. Unfortunately, the replacement boat was in terrible condition. It had engine problems, wouldn't go faster than about 7 mph, and on the way back in engine was not running too well. We called the marina because we genuinely didn't think we'd make it back safely. They told us they were sending someone to tow us in--but no one ever came. When we finally made it back on our own, they only charged us for gas because I refused to pay for a boat that was clearly not functioning properly. Mistakes happen, but what matters is how a business handles them. This marina repeatedly dropped the ball, showed little concern for their customers, and failed to make things right. I would not recommend renting a boat here.

We just absolutely loved our stay here…read more Reserved a 3 bedroom 3 bath house with a private dock directly on the river. Arrived around 8 at night and needless to say it's quite dark on these parts but the caretakers left the house brightly lit so we could easily pick it out. The house itself was gorgrous! A huge chefs kitchen...2 bedrooms and 2 baths downstairs. The mater suite was upstairs and to die for. Separate living room..big comfy bed...a western style soaking tub..water closet..and french doors the opened to the balcony over looking the river. There was a huge dining table inside as well as a table om the deck overlooking the river where u could eat as well. The kitchen had every utensil..pot or pan that you'd ever need. We Even Got To Use The fireplace as a cold front came through dropping it down to 50 before it quickly passed and went up to 80 One of the cabins is known for Jimmy carter staying there. They have a petting zoo which was fun at first but after a few minutes you could tell it isn't high on their priority list which bothered me a bit. There is also a small chapel amd really large cabin for receptions or reunions. Our rental was $650 plus taxes etc. Well worth every penny. There were a few cute local restaurants nearby we enjoyed as well directly on the river. It really is a very nice area!

We loved the grounds with the walking paths, great for the pup and well lit at night. Brought our boat and parked in the trailer parking areas which was great! Docked up one afternoon during our river cruise. Amenities are great. Didn't use the pool but that is a definite perk. Dog run is great. Grounds were well taken care of. Perfect little getaway. Our cottage had a grill (had to buy charcoal- keep in mind if you want to bring for your stay). Bed super comfy. Shower/tub was an adventure. Great dog friendly cottage.good location, homossasa spring 2 hours, rainbow spring 1 hr 30min, same for cedar key. Thanks Trish, we had a blast!

We wanted to get one last scalloping trip in before Labor Day and the end of the season. Of course,…read morewe weren't alone. On our earlier trip this season we used another marina but they didn't have any availability with led us to the River Club. There's a sign you pass heading out of the channel into the Gulf which says the River Club has the newest fleet. Let me say that the boats are gorgeous. Whether a skiff like we rented or a tritoon, everything looked great. The 24' skiff was immaculate (save some prop scuffing). The only nit about the boat is that I would have preferred a larger GPS display. When you're unfamiliar with the area (as are most people, I assume, in the rental business) the small screen made it more challenging to get a big picture of where you were with respect to landmarks. The staff was excellent. From Melinda in the front office to Kyle checking us out at the boat and everyone in between, the service was top notch. The Club is going to be making sweeping changes in growth. The cabins are growing from 15 to over 30. A new clubhouse is in the works along with other new additions. This is really going to be a cool spot to stay and I know we'll be making another trip back.

However, when the owner is out of town they have the option of renting out their unit through the front office. Other than the rooms all looking different this place feels a lot like a hotel. You check in at the front office and get a key. There's a maid that comes by to drop off fresh towels etc. The are a few things that I like more than staying at a hotel here, as it's mostly a fishing town. You can use the condo's dock for your boat if you are in town fishing or scalloping. Also, every room has a full kitchen. This is really nice because there are only about two restaurants in this town. All of the rooms have a view of the bay, and the sunsets are awesome here. There's a little pool and some grills to use. The grills are charcoal so plan accordingly. Rates are cheap. As of 4/14 weeknights are $79 and weekends are $99. During scallop season (after July) the rates go up about $30 a night. There's a ton of parking and plenty of boat slips. If you feel like mixing it up with the locals, there's a bar called crabby dad's next door.
