I like old motels because of easy access to the room. I was happy that my room was away from the road. However, when I open the door, it was very hot in the room. There was no air conditioner on, and it took quite a while to cool off. Also, the room was heavily smelling of Lysol...especially with the heat. Glad things have been wiped down however it was a little overwhelming. The flooring is new as well as the sink and the fixtures in the bathtub. However, everything else is old. There was actually a relic of an alarm clock radio in the room. I took a picture. It was kind of funny I didn't use it. The remote was really dirty. I took a picture of it. It really needed to be wiped down. I gave up trying to operate the television. Most alarming was the toilet paper. I noticed that it was coarse and wondered if it had gotten wet. In the morning I realized that not only was it previously wet, but it was stained with what look like bodily fluids on the side of the roll!!! See photo!! Gross and unacceptable! Tissue box had only a few tissues left. Ran out! Should have been replaced. Light on one side of the bed didn't work...may have needed a new bulb. I was awoken throughout the night by loud vehicles on the road despite not being right by the road. The price was approximately $90 on Booking.com. I think it was overpriced for the quality of the room. read more

I have stayeed here several times in the last 6 years! Came to visit my past! Extened family lives in the area! Childhood memories from the 1970's!! This place was here then! Like when Holiday Inn was a place to stay... This place is old, but well kept! It was here when I was a child born in the 1960's! It is well kept and updated! The owners do a great job of taking care of the guests. It isn't the most expensive place in the town to stay at, but you cannot beat the value of the stay at The Royal Inn! It's what you are looking for! A Place to lay down and rest, sleep well, and not have to worry about roaches, stupid broken stuff, or just sorry service! i live in Texas, I used to visit my Grandparents in Perry as a child, but I'd never choose one of the more expensive places over the Royal! Forty degrees outside and no heat! Moved us to another room, (after unpacking and getting ready for bed) that did have heat. No blanket on bed, but one on the sofa that I did remake the bed with. Old, old radio/alarm clock and cheep tp and tissues. Loud traffic during night! My husband and I stayed here last night and we were very pleasantly surprised. It was clean, well maintained, had spacious rooms and friendly staff. There wasn't a coffee maker in the room but the coffee in the front office was excellent. We will be up that way again and we will make it a point to stay there. read more

It's certainly cheap. I waffled between 3 and 4 stars because it's dated and feels very divey, but again - cheap - and our king bed was very comfortable and clean. I think they really need some sort of bathroom ventilation system though, it was crazy damp the entire time just from two adults showering quickly. The bathroom floor was old and uneven. I will say that if traveling as a woman alone or with children I probably wouldn't choose this inn. There are a lot of men staying here while working construction and such...of course most are probably hard working guys just resting their heads, there was quite a bit of loud talking and maybe a little bit of rowdiness going on at night. It died down by midnight, but since our stay was on a Monday night I wonder how it is on Friday or Saturday. read more

When I pay at the front desk, the lady was COPY MY DRIVING LICENSE AND MY CREDIT CARD! I asked her to give it back to me, and she said it's a process that needed to check in. That's ridiculous! Warning don't stay at this hotel !!!!! The owner is a racist hypocrite.... I only stayed 2 night... Thought everything was great.... Called another weekend to stay and owner threaten that I can never stay again... Threaten me if I show up in the property he will call the cops and and put a trespass... I asked why such a big dramatic thing what did I do wrong? Owner replied you messed up the other bed... Now they only had a double available and it was just myself I stay 2 nights I put my suitcase on the other bed And I like sleeping with a lot of pillows so I took the pillows from the other bed and I put it on the bed I used Now I've stayed at hotels before and never had an issue my understanding is that you're renting the room not the bed so if the owner was upset at me because I use the other bed then he should be upset cuz I use the shower, towels and the toilet paper So just be careful you might get arrested or even get a trespass warrant against you read more

I give five stars when I find nothing to complain about...but everything to compliment. This motel is a great find for the price. It is clean, nicely appointed, and large. The king sized bed is most comfortable. We slept well last night. The wall unit has both heat and AC settings, and as it's Spring time, we've used both in the first twenty-four hours. The shower is nice with good pressure. The room has both a small refrigerator and microwave. The husband/wife team are friendly, helpful, and professional. I will return next time I'm in Perry, Florida. The motel is indeed dated and there is some road noise during normal waking hours. However, the cleanliness and price are why I've given it five stars. If I wanted an indoor pool, a gym, or daily breakfasts I'd expect to pay a lot more. read more

I made a reservation today on a third party website for tonight and called to let them know I would be late getting in so they would know I was coming. There was apparently some sort of glitch as the reservation I made for tonight showed up several weeks from today and instead of the pet friendly hotel I thought I was reserving, this place was definitely not pet friendly. I was trying to figure out how this happened and the owner of the place was extremely rude and said something was obviously "going on in my head" and the reservation was my fault. I told him he was being rude and the next thing I know he is calling me a mfer and saying fyou over and over. I told him to cancel my reservation and I expected a refund. He did cancel at my request, then sent four emails telling me I was not permitted on his property, and several messages telling me I would have to pay for the room. This guy is a real piece of work and was incredibly vile. Their rules don't allow pets, or kids or service animals. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. The owner is obviously unstable, as you will see below. But first I have to explain that my cat and I travel around in a camper-van and never stay in motels/hotels; however, since my daughter is on this trip with us to see family for the holidays in Orlando, we got a room. After having paid to reserve our room, I asked the owner if it would be okay to let my cat out of the van--not to go into the room with us against their pet policy!--but so that he can go wander outside for a few minutes before sleeping in the van for the night, which is what we always do (he has a door in the floorboard). I explained how he is an awesome cat, stays near, and always comes back. Not only did he tell me no, but he said he was going to now refund me for the room and that we can't stay there. Say what? Okay, you know what, it is not absolutely necessary for my cat to wander outside for a few minutes, I'll just leave him in the van for the night and he won't come out (he has a litter box, food, ventilation, and the weather is cool--don't get any wrong ideas, I treat my cat like a spoiled king). But the owner wasn't having it. I asked him how it would be anything of an issue to have my cat inside my vehicle at all times, how would it be at all a problem for him or his business? I was not being rude, just trying to understand his reasoning, and trying to understand why he was already flying off the handle at just asking the original request. At this point he told me that he has decided not to refund my money. I was absolutely stunned at this man's angry reaction, but, maintaining my calm, I told him that I will leave the property when I have my refund. He then became enraged, lifting his arm up near my face and threatening to backhand me. Yes, he actually threatened to physically assault me. No, not once did I lose my calm--when someone is so clearly in the wrong and gone bonkers, it is better to let them own 100% of their own madness. I cannot fathom what set this fellow off, he was extremely rude, unreasonable, and ultimately a crook, since he did not refund my money. I now have to wait for the original pending transaction to finish processing before I can call my bank to dispute the charge, and then it will take something like 30 days to get the refund. Also, we found a much nicer room at the Hampton down the street, even though the room cost more. The very pleasant employee behind the counter told me about how Royal Inn has a shady reputation here in Perry, partly because of their policy of allowing local yokels to rent a room and have all night parties and other shady things going on. In fact, when my daughter and I had first pulled up to Royal Inn, there were three police cars in the parking lot with their red and blue lights on, arresting a man for something. One of the officers came in the office when he saw the owner threatening me with physical violence and listened to both our accounts of what happened. Then the officer explained that since this is a civil matter, he cannot force the owner to refund me and that I should file a dispute of charge with my bank. And he told me about the Hampton and Holiday Inn as being the non-skuzzy options in town. read more

Fooled once but don't you be fooled. This place is a DUMP and how they survive must be travelers who believe ratings. Great find. As we traveled across florida, we stayed a several cheap motels. This one was great for the price! Clean, beds were very comfortable, owner was very nice and accommodating and the parking lot was well lit and clean. Only suggestions I would make is: 1. though the cleaning fluid aroma wasn't too strong, it's smells a cheap and is your first impression, so change the cheap smelling cleaning fluid to something more natural and pleasant. 2. Don't use bold colors on the walls bedspread (decorate for the masses) - look at magazines to see color schemes the most successful chains use and follow their lead - won't cost any more to do so and I assure you will improve first impressions and reviews as well. The proprietor and his wife are pleasant and accommodating. The room is big and clean. The bed is comfortable, and I felt safe there. The owner went above and beyond. I left my phone charger there on my way back to Texas. I never got around to calling about it. What a nice surprise it was to receive a package a few weeks later with my charger in it! My mother always told me not to judge a book by its cover. The proprietors were very friendly. I was tickled to discover that the air conditioner in the wall was also a heater on this cold rainy night in Perry Fla- with a digital display which gave us a pretty accurate temperate in the room. The clock on the microwave was accurate too! The sheets and pillow cases were clean - although I did smell a slight odor of perfume on the pillow - a little sweet for my taste but not bad. Found this place by accident on a Friday night while traveling with two dogs. It is indeed an old motel but has been maintained extremely well and our room was very clean. The parking lot was spotless. The decor is dated but for the price it is a good deal. The owner was very, very nice and helpful in relocating us to the room nearest the grass when he discovered one of our dogs is blind.
