Sunset Place is a pretty cool condo association in Steinhatchee. All of the units are individually…read moreowned, so they are all decorated and laid out differently. However, when the owner is out of town they have the option of renting out their unit through the front office. Other than the rooms all looking different this place feels a lot like a hotel. You check in at the front office and get a key. There's a maid that comes by to drop off fresh towels etc. The are a few things that I like more than staying at a hotel here, as it's mostly a fishing town. You can use the condo's dock for your boat if you are in town fishing or scalloping. Also, every room has a full kitchen. This is really nice because there are only about two restaurants in this town. All of the rooms have a view of the bay, and the sunsets are awesome here. There's a little pool and some grills to use. The grills are charcoal so plan accordingly. Rates are cheap. As of 4/14 weeknights are $79 and weekends are $99. During scallop season (after July) the rates go up about $30 a night. There's a ton of parking and plenty of boat slips. If you feel like mixing it up with the locals, there's a bar called crabby dad's next door.

Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast - Gulf Of America

I had never been to Cedar Key, and was very excited. Pulling up to the B&B was a little magical. It was painted in pretty pastels, and we parked in front of their beautiful fenced in yard. It had majestic trees, and such an incredible, inviting vibe. Our room, Ms. Ida"s room, was beautifully decorated and inviting. It was large enough for our dog's large crate without making us feel cramped. The bathroom even had a beautiful claw footed tub. It was centrally located so we basically walked everywhere without issue. The Gulf of America was right there, and we really enjoyed watching the pods of dolphins frolick each night. The breakfast was delicious! We had a "Zippy", sausage and homemade biscuits. The Zippy was like a little southwestern quiche. Best of all were the people running this B&B. Heather and Cindi couldn't have made us feel more welcome, important, and frankly, loved! They were so kind and engaging, and totally doted on my dog. (Even made him his own scrambled eggs with cheese!) I had never been to Cedar Key, but I will definitely be back and will stay here again! Check it out!

Dock Street and all... but I really didn't even need to leave. It was very peaceful and relaxing and exactly what I was looking for. This BnB has it all. Charm, wonderful homemade breakfasts, friendly staff, great rooms... mine was on the 2nd floor and had its own private large balcony, accessible from the only other door up the stairs, next to the door to my room. The grounds were beautiful. I spent a good amount of time there. For just coffee, then breakfast, just before sunset in the afternoons... even just overlooking the grounds from the back porch. I walked around and looked at the different kinds of flowers... Alice pretty much does most of the landscaping. I spoke with Alice a good bit while enjoying breakfast in the garden one morning... very sweet and friendly, she truly loves the property and cares about her guests. It was my birthday weekend and my cousin and aunt contacted the BnB and spoke with Amanda. Amanda is who greeted me when I first arrived. She wished me a happy birthday and it took me some time before I figured out how she knew that. LOL When she showed me my room, I only asked about shampoo, she said because my hair was long, she guessed a 2 in 1 type of shampoo wouldn't suffice and I said, if it's something like Pantene, it would! After I returned from my afternoon out and about, there was a bottle of Pantene sitting on the decorate table outside my room. I'm not sure that it was readily available or if she actually went and bought it...but I was certainly appreciative and used it immediately. The next morning, after she read my notes on food issues (no chocolate, no almonds....) she had to ask me at breakfast what I couldn't eat again because my aunt and cousin requested gluten and dairy free, chocolate brownies to surprise me! I can and do eat gluten and dairy...but no chocolate. Amanda had in fact found gluten and dairy free brownies! They would have been wonderful...if I could eat them. Instead, she went out of her way once again and found me a vanilla cake on the fly... dressed it with hibiscus flowers and candles. She was very sweet and we talked for a while as well. Goes to show you how much they enjoy and appreciate what they do and the people they do it for. I enjoyed staying at this BnB, it encompasses old Florida and the local culture and I would definitely stay here again!

It was a one bed, one bathroom that had a sitting area, kitchenette, and balcony. We first noticed how clean the room was. In general, that was true but I found random pieces of hair that weren't ours in the bathroom, on the couch, and who knows where else. My toddler daughter had a long strand of someone else's hair wrapped up in her hair so if may have come from the floor or the couch. That was a little bit of a turn off. The sleep accommodations were nice. The bed was comfortable and there was more than enough room for two adults and a toddler. We loved that the porch was screened in as we enjoyed being out there. There was ample parking in a carport just below the unit. The location is great. While the town is small, this place was steps away from two breakfast spots, the local pizza restaurant, and several shops. It's also a very short walk to Dock Street, where the Harbour Master Suites office and their Dilly Dally Gally is, along with other restaurants and bars. While the place could use a little more attention to detail with cleaning, overall, we enjoyed our stay and the check-in and checkout process was quick. I would be interested to return at some point to see what the room options are like at the main site.

Dessert was a chocolate and peanut butter crepe cake. The presentation of the food itself was beautiful, but the table and decor of the place was also adorable.
