My wife and I stayed there last weekend, and enjoyed it. The room was comfortable and quiet, and the staff was nice. The hotel itself is very historic and has a lot of old Florida charm, with the cypress wood paneling and ceiling, and a nice fireplace in the lobby to sit next to. The grounds are enjoyable to walk around and relax, and there are a few cats and peacocks patrolling around and fun to watch. I highly recommend this fine Lodge for an enjoyable stay.

Looking forward to trying this original 1927 resort/ bar. It was owned by a lumber man.the bar and lobby are built with cypress wood, the lumber man hired native Americans to stain designs on the cypress walls. There will be Live music tonight! Since check in we have been treated kindly and filled with historical information about this hotel. Al Capone had stayed here ! The rooms are lovely and much bigger in person.

Stayed at the Putman Lodge for a night when meeting a friend staying in the rv area on her inaugural trip in new camper. Historic lodge, beautifully maintained by proprietors Bev and Ed, in an area within close proximity to many springs and state parks . The room was immaculate, the bed comfortable and air conditioner worked perfectly after a day of outdoor summer adventure. I was aware of limited services during early part of week, the restaurant doesn't open until end of week when it's a little busier, so I picked up a bbq meal before arrival and heated it up in the nicely stocked guest cafe. The cafe had coffee, tea, danish, oatmeal , fresh fruit, and other items provided at no charge. I'm looking forward to another visit, next time with a kayak and maybe bike- nearby Fanning Springs State Park has easy launch and many bike trails in area. Lots of old Florida to enjoy. My friend raved about the rv area- bathrooms and showers newer and very clean. Thank you for your hospitality!

What a gem of a place. History? yes, friendly staff and owner? yes, clean? yes, social distancing and covid friendly? yes. Would I reommend - most definitely. The decor inside is beautiful and in keeping with the history. The lobby, has hand-stenciled pecky cypress columns and heart pine floors. They also have a super cute garden and grounds with happy cats, chickens, chicks, peacocks wandering around. Very eclectic, very pretty and charming. We ate in the restaurant and had their take and twist on fish n chips. Being English I cannot expect it to be english style and it wasnt. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. The service wazs friendly and attentive. What I loved is they also gave us a mini tour of the common rooms, and told us interesting facts about the indians, wood, and house stories - apparently Al Capone used to stay here. We also ended up staying the night inprompto - and we had a very nice room, which was also very clean, n crisp and pleasant. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Also if I was ever in the area again I would definitely eat here again and have another lovely chat with the owner Bev. --------------- Here is some more information I found out from the internet - Owners Ed and Beverly Pivacek have masterfully woven the old with the new since they bought the place and reopened it in 2014. The successful Tampa entrepreneurs had their eyes and hearts on the Putnam Lodge since 1993 but it was 20 years before they could call it theirs. The lodge, sits on 18 acres, and embraces its Old Florida roots. However guests sleep on Ralph Lauren linens and eat upscale fare in the friendly dining room, by chef Jeno Koch. Gangster Al Capone is rumoured to have hung out at the lodge and operated secret stills across the street during Prohibition. Today, the chef sleeps in his room upstairs. Ed Pivacek says guests report supernatural experiences, ghosts and such. The Putnam Lumber Co. built the lodge for executives and tourists when the Old Dixie Highway was a main artery of north-south travel. Putnam operated a huge cypress sawmill nearby. There's still a lumber business there, now called the Suwanee Lumber Co., but the area doesn't bustle as a much.         Shamrock was a company town then. Today, it's welcoming company at the historic Putnam Lodge.

Great food. Super nice staff too. This place is a must see place. Beautiful grounds with an old Florida feel! Stumbled on this spot by accident and wow! Met the owners very nice people they went way out of their way to make us feel at home.

We stayed 2 nights at the Putnam Lodge for a quick Scalloping trip to Steinhatchee. It was very enjoyable. A wonderful old hotel nearly 100 years old fully renovated. There was no problem trailer a boat and parking it at the location. The room was small but comfortable with a queen bed. The kept a room for hospitality available 24 hours a day with complimentary snacks and coffee. The had really good technology on with access control on the front door. The inn used to be owned by the Putnam Lumber Company and the old "Pickney" cypress inside is an extinct type wood. around the grounds are beautiful gardens, and an array of domesticated birds including a peacock. They have a full bar and restaurant that was open only Thursdays- Saturday so we missed that with our mid-week trip. There is not much to offer in the town of Cross City but this place is a gem on the edge of town. It's about a 35-minute drive to Steinhatchee, and about 25 minutes to Horseshoe Bend.

The rooms are fully updated with comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, nice bath products, and doesn't feel like a roadside motel. So we planned a stop. We got the cutest brand new room with a travertine shower! We love it. Except for the linens, but we always carry our own with us anyway. The property has a whole park like setting, dock & marina by the Suwannee River. It is a super cute property throughout with tropical gardens, fruit trees & roses etc., The pool is amazeballs. It's def a blast from the past. "Suwannee, you're calling me!" If you ever find yourself on the Nature Coast, you got to stop at the historic "Suwannee Gables." Recommend.

However, when the owner is out of town they have the option of renting out their unit through the front office. Other than the rooms all looking different this place feels a lot like a hotel. You check in at the front office and get a key. There's a maid that comes by to drop off fresh towels etc. The are a few things that I like more than staying at a hotel here, as it's mostly a fishing town. You can use the condo's dock for your boat if you are in town fishing or scalloping. Also, every room has a full kitchen. This is really nice because there are only about two restaurants in this town. All of the rooms have a view of the bay, and the sunsets are awesome here. There's a little pool and some grills to use. The grills are charcoal so plan accordingly. Rates are cheap. As of 4/14 weeknights are $79 and weekends are $99. During scallop season (after July) the rates go up about $30 a night. There's a ton of parking and plenty of boat slips. If you feel like mixing it up with the locals, there's a bar called crabby dad's next door.

It was a one bed, one bathroom that had a sitting area, kitchenette, and balcony. We first noticed how clean the room was. In general, that was true but I found random pieces of hair that weren't ours in the bathroom, on the couch, and who knows where else. My toddler daughter had a long strand of someone else's hair wrapped up in her hair so if may have come from the floor or the couch. That was a little bit of a turn off. The sleep accommodations were nice. The bed was comfortable and there was more than enough room for two adults and a toddler. We loved that the porch was screened in as we enjoyed being out there. There was ample parking in a carport just below the unit. The location is great. While the town is small, this place was steps away from two breakfast spots, the local pizza restaurant, and several shops. It's also a very short walk to Dock Street, where the Harbour Master Suites office and their Dilly Dally Gally is, along with other restaurants and bars. While the place could use a little more attention to detail with cleaning, overall, we enjoyed our stay and the check-in and checkout process was quick. I would be interested to return at some point to see what the room options are like at the main site.
