We have shopped at Steinhafels for over 20 years but will never shop there again! We bought a leather sofa in February with a warranty that cost over $400. The warranty states they will repair or replace any damage to the couch for 4 years. Our dog scratched 3 cushions on the couch. A rep from Servco inspected the couch on 04/17/26 and verified 3 cushions were scratched. He said they would send the cushions to my house and he would remove the sewed in cushions and replace them with the new cushions. I told him that would be impossible because all of the cushions are permanently attached to the sofa but agreed to go along with their plan. Three months later, one cushion cover arrived. I was told by Servco only 1 cushion was ordered. I asked to speak with someone who could order the other 2 cushions but was denied several times. I have now contacted Servco at least 6 times with no results! These guys are total rip off's. The people in customer service tell me they can only forward my request to the repair department and state I will be contacted by the repair department in 2-3 business days when they make a decision on my claim? When I call Steinhafels they tell me I have to talk to Servco. I still have not received any updates on my claim? I get the feeling they are instructed to give people the run around and hope they just give up. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced from both Servco and Steinhafels! read more

Very poor customer service. Their warranty company refuses to work with you to get repairs. Customer service hangs up on you when you call them. Their salesmen tell you how wonderful the VIP care protection is and sell it to you only to have your claim for a scratch on a table denied. I bought my living room furniture 10/8/22 and a 4 years extended warranty at Steinhafels Oak Creek. When they delivered them on 10/31/2022. The delivery guys did a lot of damage to them during the delivery. Because of this they tried to resolve the problems without good result and the Manager that was there was very unprofessional. Finally after so many problems I went back to the store this year and the manager Mr. Michael Salvatore Rita was completely the opposite, he was very professional and helped me to complete a claim to the extended warranty and they reimbursed me the money to select a new set. Checked on-line in mid-July and the order said delivery in September - 5 months after ordering. We went in and canceled the order. They refunded it without any argument, indicating they must do this often. We went to Biltrite Furniture in Milwaukee and purchased replacements for 1/3 the price and got delivery in 2 days. I purchased a dining room table, mattress, & adjustable base from your store on 8-1-2021. Upon delivery 3 of the chairs had chips on them. I didn't notice this until after the delivery drivers left. They didn't even ask me to inspect the items upon delivery. I should have inspected them as they were moved up 2 flights of stairs without covers or padding. This was very disappointing to see the items being handled this way as I assumed home delivery would have been more careful to wrap the items and unwrap upon delivery in the room. I emailed and called the company with no response. Finally on 9/2 someone came out and fixed the chairs and said the table needed to be sent to the VIP Care. Finally I heard back in November. I submitted another claim as another scratch and was told they won't be able to repair the damage as it happened over 30 days ago. Even the damage that happened 5 days ago. I called Steinhafels and was told there is nothing they can do and to reach out to VIP Care. VIP Care says to contact your company. Your customer service rep refused to let me speak to a manager and hung up on me. When I went to the live chat, the rep, Scott, told me to contact VIP Care and that it needs to be within 30 days and left the chat without saying anything else. I am sure both of your employees have written notes on my account of their encounter with me. I spent almost $5000 that day on items from your store and was told VIP Care would take care of me. I have received nothing close to VIP care from any of your employees. I would be embarrassed as a company to have any of my customers feel like this and get this type of run around. read more

I had a great experience shopping for a new bed frame, mattress, and box springs at Steinhafels in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. A number of staff members checked on me, but didn't hover and gave me space to make the larger purchase decision. I found all the items in the clearance section and the staff worked with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. They even moved around the box springs so I could see what the frame and mattress would look like with a low-profile box spring. It really takes quite a few mistakes to earn a one star rating so I will let you know my experience so hopefully you can avoid the same pitfalls. 1) 10% off everything really doesn't mean everything. It excludes custom furniture and mattresses which was everything we were purchasing. 2) They may not charge you for everything at first. We received a call one week later stating they had left out the foot board charge on our order. 3) The 120 sleep night guarantee requires that you purchase one of their mattress covers. A decent one will run you over $100. 4) There is NO negotiation. After one of the pillows we ordered was supposed to be in stock and wasn't available we had to beg to get a portion of our delivery fee refunded and this was an $8k+ purchase. Read later for their remediation offer after they had messed up everything. 5) Delivery dates will move and will move to be a later date. We planned on having the 100th anniversary of our house party and set a date that should have been safe. The delivery date slipped from mid November to late then to middle December. They don't notify you of a date slip you have to check your on-line order. 6) Your furniture may come damaged and the delivery people will try to hide the damage. Our bed had small damage on it and my husband caught the delivery team trying to hide that a piece had fallen off the bed. The dresser had multiple scratches on it and we wouldn't accept delivery. 7) If your custom furniture comes damaged you can either have them try to fix it or wait another 12 weeks for delivery. They offered us $100 off the $8k+ order to wait an additional 12 weeks so we opted to have the furniture repaired. 8) Your delivery will come late so don't plan on leaving a small window open. The truck "broke down" and they were over two hours late. When they switched trucks that probably damaged our furniture. 9) If the delivery team thinks it will be a tight fit getting your furniture into your house they will make you sign a waiver that basically states they can destroy your house with no recourse. They delivered the furniture but left scratches on our walls. After talking with a few other people about our experience we found out that two friends had sued this company for various reasons. This is probably the WORST experience I have ever had with purchasing any large ticket item. I escalated the issue and nobody seemed to care about this horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and AVOID STEINHAFELS AT ALL COSTS! read more

Tried to buy a very small slipper chair (almost a stool) on clearance at $200. This should have been an easy five-minute transaction. Staff would not let me walk out of store with purchase due to liability concerns. They didn't want anyone to see me carrying small chair out huge front door but would not open back door. I had to return, never mind that I could very easily carry the chair myself. There was exactly one other shopper on the huge floor and five employees but no one would help. I was asked to return the next day when they had someone at the back door doing pick ups. I could not return the next day - I live 25 minutes away for starters - so I did not purchase the chair. I decided later that day to purchase it over the phone and request pick up a week later when I could make the drive. Once again I was told I could not. Various rules and requirements were again cited, with requests that I the customer adjust to all their stipulations, and all the enthusiasm once again directed at explaining their rules to me rather than considering the actual situation and customer service. I could not purchase a clearance item over the phone, etc etc. I have never encountered such ridiculous bureaucracy and unreasonable barriers to customer service and to making a simple purchase. This should have been a fun outing and easy transaction. Since moving here I wondered why I heard it referred to as Stein-awful. Now I know why! I haven't even included the silliness related to my phone call to try to purchase the chair over the phone - so ridiculous it was almost sublime! Well I will add that for one thing I couldn't talk to anyone at the store, only the guy at the Madison mattress outlet! That's right, the five store employees roaming around waiting for shoppers don't take customer calls. I had to wait for a call back. I'm sorry for the employees at this store, management does not have an approach for success. Ikea was so much easier. If I could rate this company no stars I would. I recently moved into an apartment and needed new furniture so I stopped into Steinhafels and saw the perfect couches, it seemed so easy to get the order placed and set up a delivery date for them to be dropped off. However, the day they were delivered one of the couches had rips in them. We also had an issue where the couch was unable to get up the second flight of stairs because we were unaware that they did not come apart. I called them not even an hour after they were delivered and they stated sorry nothing we can do cover the couch up and you can either drop it off at the warehouse next week or PAY them again to come pick up the couch at a different time. A week has gone by and we still have this giant couch sitting in our hall, it was supposed to be picked up today and when they arrived they did not want to pick it up because of the smallest amount of snow on the sidewalk did not even get out of the truck to communicate or even see if they were able to move the couch and stated I needed to reschedule AGAIN. We placed an order for the same wide love seat we have however that order cannot be placed for delivery until the other couch is picked up. I am constantly calling customer service and they've have been nothing but rude nor have they been helpful. This is the worst experience I have ever had with furniture. It is stated that if you purchase this protection plan and it is not used, you don't lose it. At the time of my purchases I was not made aware of any specific stipulations at the stores have on this. So I have tried to contact them about the numerous, and I mean it numerous purchases, hundreds and thousands of dollars that I have spent, I was told that they would be vouchers and that they would be mailed to the address they have on file. I ordered a sectional from Steinhafels on July 25th, 2020 and were told we could expect the couch the first week of September. It is now November of 2020 and we still do not have our couch. I understand that during the pandemic that manufacturing has taken a hit but their sales staff and website indicates that items will be available within a few weeks, which completely misleads the customer into thinking that it is a reasonable waiting period. Their status updates always say that the order will be ready within 4-5 weeks, but once you get within 2-3 weeks, the status changes to a later date with no end in sight. Steinhafels customer service has consistently mislead us and has shown little to no interest in any sort of compensation for a 6 month delay. The money came out of my account the day I placed the order so I've paid thousands of dollars to sit on air for half a year. Lessons learned: 1) They will mislead you into thinking that your order will be available within a reasonable time, knowing that isn't true (their website says my couch is available within 3 weeks right now when I ordered it in July and the current status is December). 2) Their status updates will always be close enough to think you don't need to cancel, but shift once it's within a couple weeks. 3) Their sales representatives will completely abandon you after the sale. 4) Customer service will totally disregard the issue, deflect all blame, and just dare you to cancel rather than offering any real compensation. We received a phone call that one of our chairs wasn't available, but the rest of the set would be delivered as promised which it was. I decided I wanted 2 more chairs with the set, but was unable to order online. I was able to get 3 chairs from the floor to complete my set. Everyone was so nice. I couldn't be happier! First I would say they have great sales people but service after that is horrible. I purchased a expensive leather sectional of which one section the leather was peeling, called them and they came out in two weeks and agreed it was a manufacturer defect, super right? Never heard back from them after a month so I stopped in and they said parts are ordered but it will be another 2-3 months before they come in and then they will set up something to fix. I have purchased many things over the years and this is the first time I had to use their warranty. They are simply a company that once you make the purchase they could care less about you. On August 24th, we went to Steinhafels located at 9191 S 13th street in Oak Creek, WI 53154. My spouse and I were looking for a new mattress because I have a chronic disease in my left hip, so I am in pain all the time and having a new mattress could help with this issue. ***** was the person responsible for the sale. We explained him we were looking for a firm mattress. We chose the Beautyrest brand. During our conversation, he just mentioned the warranty procedures, but he never mentioned about RETURN POLICY. Since we are not from US, and it was our first time buying a mattress and first time at this store, we didn't know there was a "different" policy for mattress and other stuff. During his explanation about Beautyrest warranty, he mentioned a mattress cover we could buy in the store to extend mattress durability, and to have MORE time to RETURN (4 months). Worried about the price, we asked him how much was for the cover, and he said it would range between 80 to 200 hundred dollars. At the same time, he said we could find cheaper options in other stores. Since he said this, we were super sure about not buying Steinhafels cover. Mattress was supposed to arrive on August 26th, but it arrived on the 27th. At the same day, we bought a Walmart cover mattress to make sure we would protect our new mattress. Unfortunately, comfort wasn't like we expected. The mattress is too firm, and my pain even increased since we started using this new mattress. On the same week (August 31st), we went back to the same location we bought this item, but **** wasn't at store. However, ***** (a manager) talked with us. We explained all the circumstances, but he said he couldn't do anything because we didn't buy the Steinhafels protector. We were very disappointed. He made a note to **** for him get in touch with us. On Sunday (September 1st), we waited for his call, but he didn't call. We decided to call him, and we asked if **** talked about our situation, but **** said the day was too busy. So I explained again all the situation, and **** was very open to help us. He said he would talk with another manager (a main one) to put on him as a sale error. He even explained to us how much we would have back, he said we didn't need to return the base, just the mattress. We agreed with the conditions, and we thought this would be solved. Labor Day was the day next, so we waited until the next day for his call, but nothing. I tried to call him and **** a lot of times, but neither of them picked up my call. I also sent those 3 emails below since **** and ***** were unreachable. Finally, yesterday salesman called and he said he talked with another manager, and they couldn't do anything for us because we didn't buy the cover. He even blamed us saying we signed the receipt, and information was clear. But it's not true. When you buy something, we do an electronic signature, and we are not able to read all this "policies". Even in the front of the receipt, we see information on return fees, so we were sure about returning. If a mattress has such a different policy for returning, the minimal we expect from the salesman is to full explain how it works, you can't just blame your customer on this matter. I was super disappointed, but very polite with ****. Then, I asked him to send his manager contact information because I would do my complain directly to him. He said: "I'll send an e-mail with this information right away". I waited all day long, but again no e-mail. Now, we decided to go further in our complain and try to negotiate with customer service a better solution for this case before going to the next level. Bought both love seat and sofa and they said I would get the sofa in Jan 4 months after I purchased. Went in on Jan and they told me end of March. Went in March and they said April, went in April and they admitted they have no idea when or if the sofa would come in. Each time they said if I found something in stock they would exchange the love seat. Now I have purchased both couch and love seat and they said it has been too long to return the love seat. I have a witness when I showed up each time and they said they would exchange. Now I have just a love seat that does me no good without a matching sofa. A big bright moderate quality furniture store comparable to Colders in many ways and in fact what I like about this location is that it is very close to a Colders so you can directly compare on the same day. The sales people here are friendly and helpful without being pushy and the selection is pretty wide. Their sales and prices on options are pretty complicated, so make sure you have the time to pay attention and compare specifics especially when shopping for more than one piece of furniture. Plenty of parking. Like the rest of the industry pricing seems lowest the week before and the day of the usual big sale holidays, Memorial Day, President's Day, Labor Day. This place has outlet pieces, so there are some surprising bargains, but inspect closely so you know what you're getting. I asked if I could bring a couple of my cats to test scratch some sofas and was politely told, no. I guess that's reasonable. read more

And if you need anything removed you can take care of it all at once rather than risking them rejecting removal of the item & trying to get your money back. Steinhafels came through after our negative experience at first. The item was broken and after a few frustrating customer service calls I posted a negative review and they responded. They placed an order for a replacement, delivered it to us, and accommodated us by just replacing the broken shelf instead of the whole unit so we wouldn't have all the work of packing up the first one and assembling the new one. Upon Walking in Steinhafels, my partner and I were immediately welcomed by two furniture consultants. One of the consultants was Mike Strahlendorf who took us directly to the leather sofas. He stated that he had many years of experience in the furniture business and it was obvious! He was extremely knowledgable and so friendly (he defiantly made us feel welcome). I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a quality piece of furniture. We walked away with a great deal on a leather sofa on sale but valued at $2400!! Mike also referred us to Kristi Lichtenwalner, the bedroom specialist who walked us through the bedroom department. She quoted us a fabulous Queen upholstered tufted sleigh bed also on sale and valued at $1699 that we will return for in the next few weeks. We loved the experience and are very happy for the friendly, professional customer service received today. They no longer sell the set so will not refund me my full amount or repair even. Sold me a warranty that is fraudulent. Guardsman was fine to work with as they have nothing to do with the store really except contracted, but cannot force the store to do what is right. What's a single person supposed to do with the old bed if they don't pay the $10? Become a "princess with a pea"? Okay, I pay the $10. But wait, there's more! 2. Steinhafels advertises that if you don't like your purchase, you have almost 4 months to return it. What they don't advertise is that you have to buy a mattress protector ($80 - $200 for a queen) otherwise the mattress is not returnable. Needless to say, I hope I'm happy with this mattress. 3. Steinhafels advertises that you can get same-day or next-day delivery. I'm not sure what area that covers but it's not where I live. So I get to wait 7 days before I see the new bed. I'm glad I can still use the old one! They can't tell you what time the delivery will be but you need to be there for a 2-hour window. Since I don't know when the 2-hour window will be, I can not schedule anything for the entire day. REALLY??? If, when they call me to tell me when the 2-hour window will be, I can't be there and I have to reschedule, I can only reschedule once. (per Derek) My whole life has to evolve around the delivery! What are they going to do with my money (and my bed) if I can't keep my busy schedule open enough for Steinhafels? I was going to buy a group of paintings today and possibly a dining set today too. We were shown a living room set. It was on sale. I told the sales person I would contact him that day or the following day to make the purchase. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!!! It has been nothing but a nightmare for us. We ordered our furniture mid-July and were told we'd have it mid-August. It came in at the end of August but did not receive any type of communication letting us know. Luckily I had been checking every few days for it. The delivery was another week and a half out. We got curbside delivery with our sofa, chair and ottoman. Our chair was delivered damaged. We called and asked if someone could come by and pick it up, we did not want to move it to the basement just to move it back out again. They would not come and get it, and told us if we wanted to exchange/return it, we had to drop it off at the Waukesha facility. An even exchange would be waiting until the new furniture arrived and doing an even swap (which we did not want to do) so we had to return it. We were also told that when the new item came in, they would not deliver it to us for free (because they had already with the damaged one) and would cost us $200 or we could pick up the new one for free in Waukesha. After bickering back and forth with customer service for a few days and getting nowhere, we dropped off the damaged chair in "exchange" for a new chair. We were told it would be in end of September. We have on email with customer service that the exchanged was placed on Sept. 9th. By October 2nd, we still hadn't heard back and sent another email inquiring about the chair. She had no idea what we were talking about so we forwarded the previous emails. She sent us a confirmation number and told us we would have the chair MID-NOVEMEBER!!! I looked up the confirmation number and she forgot to placed the order!! The order was not placed until Oct. 2nd. The service personnel were awesome. Never felt pressured. I went in window shopping couches and ended up buying a bed. They followed up with me meeting my every expectation and more. The delivery guys were nice as could be. I was even able to track where their truck was from the website! Keep up the great job. read more

I wanted to buy a bedroom set, but there was no salesperson around. I waited at least 30 minutes after an associate was pages, but no one ever showed up. The only available salesperson told me multiple times she did not know beds, so left me standing there. Good luck finding help! read more

I am writing this not for my experience but for my mother in law, who is an older lady and lives alone. She bought a 900 dollar bed frame from this company, after a few days of trying she decided that she didn't like it. When she tried to return it, she was told she couldn't and she was given the run around when she called customer service. Eventually she gave up an was forced to buy a different frame, when she called and asked if the delivery team could move the other frame on a different room ( same floor not 6 feet away from her room) she was told by the guy on the phone, to slip them a 20 dollar tip (he was very specific about the amount of money)so they would move it. The "men" that came to deliver the new frame, gave her all kinds of grief when she asked if they could move the frame to the other room, eventually they did. She decided to give us the frame for my wife's birthday, so I went to pick it up and notice that whomever delivered it, didn't bother to remove any of the zip ties from the frame, left all the desiccant packages attached and there was not attempt to do any cable management, the headboard brackets were not attached to the frame and they didn't set up the battery back up. Absolutely unacceptable customer service in person and on the phone. As a paid customer she was entitled to a much compassionate service from these people read more

I've had a joint account with my husband with steinhafels for about 4 years now. Wanted to pick up a metal bed frame and finance it. They wouldn't do it without my husband there period, and if he was we didn't have the card but had the account number, we'd have to wait three days for the $97 to clear. The salesman said it was Wells Fargo's new guidelines, whatever. After wasting my time for 20 minutes to find all this, I left with my toddler, went to Ikea, bought one for $50 and had it myself in 5 minutes and got a frozen yogurt on the way out. If your buying furniture beware that if your furniture is not in stock it will take several months to get it and when you call for a status update because you were promised your furniture and it's not in. Their CSR's are not helpful no one can all the vendor to see what's going on why it's not in yet. Then months later when it finally arrives to the warehouse it takes a week to get it to the store and the reason I get from the CSR is I'm not sure we will have time to put it on the shuttle for a few days. What a horrible experience and I encourage everyone to go elsewhere I will never shop here again! read more

I made a medium sized purchase summer 2017. One item was one that uses heat, did not need to use it until fall. When I turned it on, it was dead with an error. I called (took two calls, but I got through) and was helped over the phone and scheduled a tech to come out. I have been very pleased with all items I purchased, less this issue. I noticed the negative reviews when I queried the phone number and found it odd. So many of those users complaining of how much they spent and the issues they had. I found the value very good, right near Labor day sales. No problems with delivery, even though one of my pieces took two months longer than stated. If it was an issue I would have made other arrangements, this isn't rocket science. Another reviewer stated they were shocked they had to wait so long for a custom order to be fixed, come on you said "custom", again, it's not rocket science. I also wouldn't expect to negotiate after the fact, if it was that bad I would expect a buyer to cancel the whole order. Delivery dates do move, happens all of the time. Not every install goes as planned. The same reviewer that complained they had to sign a waiver and likely took a much longer time to install, complained that their installers were late and the date was moved. Again, not rocket science. I fail to see the problem of most of the complainers on this page. I've bought furniture from many retail outfits and (though this one was not perfect) it was a very decent experience, even with some delays and a couple minor hiccups. In the end I got a good price. The ten grand or so I spent here, was easily $12-14K elsewhere. Plus even with the current fireplace issue, I realize the store is not the manufacturer, yet I am pleased they are sending a technician of their own to come service it in a reasonable amount of time. At this point I would still recommend this retailer. read more
