My regular vet wasn't available. My miniature horse was showing signs of colic. My other back up vet Dr Towes retired and sold his practice to Steinbeck. So I called them. I got a vet that listened to his lungs, heart gut and was charged 167.50 for a colic exam. He didn't even check the teeth or the temperature. All my mini horse was given was a shot of banamine. I tried to pay my bill before he left and he said the office has to send it. I got ahold of my regular vet later in the day. She asked me what did the vet do? Did he scope him, oil him? What was his temperature? I told her he did nothing except give the shot. I accept the other charges but I do NOT accept the colic charge - when I called to discuss it. I said he did a routine exam. I explained what he did for the visit and she said she is not a vet and they don't have a code for a regular exam. I won't be calling them again!

Kind, thorough, and genuinely compassionate. You can really tell how much he cares about both pets and their people. I used to take my previous dog to the VCA in Salinas and decided to continue with VCA by choosing the Pacific Grove location. They provided excellent care, and I can completely see why this hospital is so highly rated. I'm very grateful to have found such a caring and trustworthy veterinary team.

VCA Ocean View was able to see him within 30 minutes of me calling and the vet and assistant spent around an hour in the room with us. They were incredibly thorough and so kind. They were absolutely amazing with my puppy and made sure that he didn't have anything more serious going on. We did IV fluids and he was sent home with some probiotics, new gastro food and a few suggestions on things to eat. He is like a brand new puppy and they really helped put all my worries at ease. The vet even called that evening before she left for the day to check in on him. I can't recommend this office enough, truly. This is a great veterinary office who reacares about animals.

I recently moved from Hayward to Morgan Hill, and wow--what a difference. I absolutely love it…read morehere. One of the best parts is having VCA San Martin just 10 minutes from my house. I brought my baby Lulu in and got connected with Dr. Zhen, and I'm so glad I did. She's super cool, attentive, and I really like her vibe. You can tell she genuinely cares. My dogs had a bad habit of being spoon-fed (yes, my fault ), and she gave me simple but effective advice--stop hand feeding and just leave the bowl out. And honestly... she was right. My senior dog now eats so much better. Before, it was such a struggle and I had to hand feed all the time, which just isn't realistic now that I have a baby. That advice alone made a huge difference. She also let me know Lulu was a little overweight (lol), and reassured me it's okay if she skips a meal or two--they won't starve themselves. I appreciated the honesty. Since I liked her so much, I also brought in my brother's dog, Belly Belle, and stuck with Dr. Zhen for both. She did dental cleanings on both dogs--though I was a little sad Lulu had to lose two teeth, I trust her care. Now the downside--and it's a big one--is the wait time. Every visit I've had, there's been a noticeable delay. The last time I brought Belly Belle, it took almost 30 minutes just to be seen after checking in, which is really frustrating. I understand things can run over, but it feels like there's not enough buffer built into their scheduling. When you plan your day around an appointment, that kind of delay adds up--especially with pets and a baby at home. Overall, I really do like the care and I plan to stick with Dr. Zhen. My 12-year-old senior dog is scheduled next--he has a lot going on (alopecia, dental issues), so I'm hopeful to see what kind of magic she can work for him. Just really hoping they can improve the wait times, because that's the one thing holding this place back from being a 5-star experience.

VCA was very thorough in helping to do the exam and process the necessary paperwork. I trust their expertise and really enjoy the atmosphere when I enter their facility. Thank you for an excellent experience!

Up to when my doggy unfortunately reached the end stage of her life, and they have been really supportive through this difficult time, making sure my pet was really comfortable. It is true that since Dr Ryle left, there has been a bit of an in and out of different vets, and that is not always easy because they have no background knowledge of your pet. I am sure this is something they wish to solve as well. Dr Berry is still there, is wonderful and really helped us out. And I also want to mention they have some wonderful vet techs as well that have been really caring. My dog was terrified of the vet and needles, but they made every effort to make it as stress free as possible. I even learned through the ER staff, where I had to take my dog to unfortunately when she was nearing the end of her life, that VCA had special instructions in her files around how to make my pup as comfortable as possible when she would be scared...!

My dog, Pepito, was diagnosed by Dr. Lightsey with ITP -- a condition he had never shown signs of before. Based on that diagnosis, he was prescribed a high dose of prednisone. Shortly afterward, Pepito became seriously ill and had to be taken to the emergency hospital, where he was treated for a GI bleed. In the days that followed, I consulted two additional veterinarians, including an internal medicine specialist, to better understand what had happened. They reviewed Pepito's records and felt that his initial symptoms were more consistent with transient gastroenteritis or pancreatitis, not ITP. I was also told that the diagnostic workup used to support the ITP diagnosis did not meet the typical criteria for that condition. According to the specialist, Pepito's mild anemia improved after the prednisone was stopped and replaced with GI-protective medication, which aligned with a GI bleed related to the steroid rather than a primary ITP diagnosis. I reached out to Dr. Lightsey hoping for acknowledgment of the situation and to discuss the more than $2,000 in emergency costs that followed. Unfortunately, she declined my request for reimbursement and did not offer an apology. I left the experience feeling that my concerns were dismissed and not taken seriously. This was a deeply stressful and upsetting situation for me and my pet, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic or Dr. Lightsey. She has been reported to the California veterinary medical board.

Brought my 8 year old Belgian Malinois in because he was having severe hip pain and trouble walking. The tech came to the car to ask a few questions about what was going on, then proceeded to tell me "I'm not sure how much we are going to do for him because we are an Emergency clinic and this seems like a chronic issue" 1. You're not a vet, and 2. How about treat his pain? I let her know my dog is anxious and does better if I'm with him. She said "the vet will assess him alone then come to a room to talk about what she found". I asked multiple times to speak with the vet before doing the assessment, and to stay with my dog. I was told that's not how they operate and owners are not allowed to stay with their animals for an assessment and they are used to handling high strung animals. I let her know I wasn't trying to help her out, I was trying to keep my dog comfortable and not aggravate his pain more by fighting with vet techs. Again she stated the vet will not talk to me until she assesses my dog alone. I told her I'm am ER nurse and this is very abnormal. She said "well you should know how an ER works then" and "you should just go to your regular vet" I responded in saying I would never take a child away from a parent for an assessment and do a blind assessment without any background information. Again, this tech did not care whatsoever and refused to let me speak to a vet. I left and took my dog with me. This place is the same shitty place in a nicer building. I'd rather drive to Santa Cruz than go here ever again.
