He is not knowledgeable about recent advancements in facial plastic surgery and does not want to learn. He is not open to researching and implementing newer facial rejuvenation techniques, most notable being facial fat transfer. He said he has not had good experiences with it in the past and will not even consider it now. There are newer, and now common, techniques to successfully complete a fat transfer with over 90% fat viability. He said that he knows what works well for him and will not deviate, so if you're looking for a deep plane facelift on a vertical vector, or any other recent advancements, do not go here. I had a consultation with this surgeon because, on the Realself site, he did not charge a consultation fee. When I booked the appointment online, it required $100 to complete the booking. I figured when I go there and tell them it says 'free' on RealSelf, they would refund that money TO HONOR THEIR ADVERTISEMENT. When I had the appointment, my patient coordinator, Jenny told me that it would have been free if I'd called for the appointment. Online appointments default to charge $100, regardless of their promises. I assumed she would refund the $100 then, knowing I contacted them because of the free consultation, but they will not. I am at the 6 month mark of my facelift with Dr. Stein. I am extremely pleased! He did an excellent balance between my wanting to look natural and look like myself as well as not being so subtle, that it wasn't worth the work. I was concerned about it looking one way or the other, but it is perfect. I am 61 and look so much younger. I no longer have bags under my eyes and the sagging skin and jowls I had before my procedure. Dr. Stein is direct in his communication and on what can and can not be achieved. He is an excellent, experienced surgeon. He was one of the three highly recommended surgeons that I consulted for my facelift. I have debated for years posting a review and I finally feel I need to. I received a revision rhinoplasty from Dr.Stein in 2015 and EVERY day I regret my decision to go with him. There were so many red flags that I should've seen and I was too young to realize them at the time. - he has the worst bed side manners I have EVER seen - he never asked me what I wanted my nose to look like. Let me repeat that - he NEVER asked me what I wanted my nose to look like. What plastic surgeon doesn't ask their patient what they want? - I remember looking through his catalog of previous rhinoplasty work and was not impressed with ANY of them - I wanted to go with Dr.Stein because they had technology to show me what my new nose would look like post surgery. He never offered to use that for me and when I brought it up he said something like "you really don't need to do that because your nose will look the same but without the bump." - on a positive side he did remove the bump... but he took off SO much that my nose doesn't have structure anymore. And he somehow made it more crooked. My nose runs constantly because snot gets stuck in the tip of one side of my nose now and it's incredibly embarrassing around people. And when I inhale deeply the MIDDLE of my nose on one side COLLAPSES. That's because he removed so much structure on one side that I look like an alien. Another note: this was 9 years ago and I was VERY young and when I got my bandages off I told them I liked my nose (didn't realize til it fully healed how awful it was). Because of this they ASKED me to leave a positive review on their website WHILE I WAS IN THE OFFICE where they could read what I was writing, so obviously under pressure I wasn't going to write anything bad. So do NOT trust any 5 star reviews - they may have been forced into leaving them. I am now looking into other plastic surgeons and for a good one to fix the mess Dr.Stein gave me I'm looking at around $30,000 and a trip to LA/Chicago/NY. I let Dr. Stein do a Phenol Peel on my face which I had never heard of before going to his practice. It apparently is not something many plastic surgeons know how to do. After speaking with him it sounded like a perfect option for all of the issues I was having with the skin on my face, e.g. pre-cancer flare-ups to include sun damage. I was a beach and tanning bed girl for a long time so I had a lot of skin damage. Well the phenol peel did the trick. I haven't had any problems since then and I look ten years younger as a bonus. Stien gave me plastic surgery during the consultation I made it clear to him to fix the bottom of my nose only to find out after surgery he didn't stick to his words. I'm extremely hurt. dr stien is definitely willing to help me achieve my goals with my nose. He didn't do what I thought he would do to the top of my nose but he did make the top look better. about 10 years ago a plastic surgeon here in wilmington really did a bad job on my nose. no other surgeons were willing to do a repair job on a previous surgery. dr. stein is! this is a very difficult thing to do repairing someone else's bad work. he did a fine job and changed my life. i really didn't want to live with a bulbous nose. 10 years later i'm still very happy. he does not make false promises or make guarantees. you cannot make guarantees with surgery. he and i got along very well. i don't understand these reviews claiming he is "rude". read more

Dr. Stein is the most rude and arrogant plastic surgeon I have ever went to. I have cystic acne and I suffer from SPD l(skin picking disorder). He did a scar revision on my right cheek and within 1 day, all my stitches burst open and I was left with a gaping hole. I contacted his office and his manager called me back and said he would repair it for $2500. I told him absolutely not and Dr. Stein needed to call me. Dr. Stein said it was obviously my fault and I would have to pay for it. I actually ended up going to Dr. Lyle at Raleigh Plastic Surgery who repaired it and assured me it was not my fault. If you don't want to be talked over or treated with total disregard, do yourself a favor and find another plastic surgeon. read more

I came to this practice because of word of mouth and ratings but I was not pleased with my outcome. I had a chin implant done and was not happy with the results. He left a big scab on my chin because I was told something went wrong and it was burned by accident. Not only on top of that my speech is affected and apparently I'm still swollen one month later. The staff was nice and Cassidy was very helpful with the initiation process etc, Dr. Stein himself was not very sympathetic or took the time to follow up afterwards with me and seemed rushed the entire time. Unhappy and displeased with this Surgeon and unfortunately will not be recommending him and regret to say my decision should have been otherwise. read more

I've been going to Stein Plastic Surgery for over a year now with great experiences. I have received Botox, Dysport and Restaylne and Perlane fillers. Prior to coming to Stein, I shopped around the Raleigh market. I had a deep line in between my eyebrows -- other providers kept saying add more Botox and the line will soften. Grace my injector at Stein suggested we use a filler in the line and the line has all but dissappeared and lasted 12 months. Grace, my injector does a phenomenal job! Two years ago Dr. Stein did a rhinoplasty for me and I was and still am incredibly happy with the results, he's a talented surgeon. He's also an incredibly good hearted human. This morning I had a minor accident that left a major cut on my forehead, it was bad. I called his office still half in shock and after seeing pictures he told me to meet him at the office so he could fix it. I couldn't have asked for a better experience or outcome from this office and doctor. TRULY AMAZING. I went in for revision rhinoplasty and as you can imagine I was extremely nervous and hesitant as I have gone through this all before. The office staff from the front desk to financing are all wonderful, kind and informative people. They have a few financial credit options too which was very helpful. They take a before picture and are able to computer generate it to show you something similar to the results you may receive... it was really awesome. Dr. Stein was a pleasure. I knew right away he was smart and knew what he was talking about. He does not sugar coat anything and will really tell you his opinion. I respected his honesty and expertise. Not to mention his large numbers in rhinoplasty surgery had me feeling confident...number don't lie.
