Told nope, but they would put a credit on our account. We're both in our mid 70s, and the chances of driving over 300 miles just for a boat trip are slim to none. Plan accordingly. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ Outdoor adventures keeps the guided groups small (maximum 12 people). I appreciate the small groups since this was my first time kayaking. Three types of kayaks are available: single, double or triple occupancy. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A Discover Pass is required to park at Spencer Spit. If you do not have a pass, a $10 day pass can be purchased with cash or check. There were several rangers checking passes on our visit so be sure to have a pass visibly displayed to avoid being ticketed. WHAT TO BRING - Signed Release of Liability - Bathing suit or non-cotton under layers preferred - A synthetic shirt (capilene, polypro, Under Armor, etc) - Shorts or pants made of a synthetic material (may get wet/damp) - Lightweight fleece jacket or windbreaker/rain jacket to provide warmth - Water shoes or sandals that strap on (or shoes that can get wet) - Sun hat and/or sunglasses - Sunscreen and chapstick - Water bottle - Optional; Camera, Plastic bag for wet items and change of clothing - If you have a gift certificate or prepaid voucher (such as Groupon) please bring a printed copy with you! Dorito Dan was our guide for the day. Dan was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The first hour is dedicated to introductions, procedures and safety. Be sure to use the restroom before departing. Once on the water, there is no turning back. Kayaking is great for teamwork and communication. Both are required to avoid frustration. I recommend wearing weight-lifting/bicycle gloves in order to prevent blisters. Each person in our group started getting blisters towards the end of the tour. During our 3 mile kayaking trip, we spotted starfish, seals and majestic bald eagles. Thank you Outdoor Adventures for providing a magnificent day of play while surrounded by gorgeous Mother Nature. We all plan to return in the near future for another go-around.

None of the outlets nor USB ports worked, nor did the fan controls overhead. The slight draft through the vent and the broken seal around the windows sufficed. Our bus carried only five passengers, we spaced ourselves apart, and fortunately nobody nuked a big one. Most of the window gaskets squeaked, annoyingly, and one showed a visible gap. I did think, a window could fall out, and thus would not reach Vancouver on schedule. They couldn't even properly adjust the large LED clock, still set on Standard Time and a few minutes late. Litter left and scattered from the previous trip tells me either nobody cleaned the bus in Seattle, where we originated, or they were given so little time or otherwise cleaned it poorly. I wouldn't have known about MTRWestern had Flixbus not contracted them for the codeshare to Vancouver. Nor would i have otherwise chosen them. They ran the worst, dirtiest, and least maintained bus i've ever ridden.

I had to slam on my brakes and reverse into an intersection. The bus appeared lost; there was no reason for them to be on this very small street. The driver honked at me and seemed confused and angry. I called to report the driver and the woman on the phone seemed annoyed I hadn't taken down all of the bus information. She said it was "so much easier for [her]" if I had. Maybe they don't track their vehicles? Highly unprofessional, and makes me wonder if they simply don't know what routes their drivers take. They seemed unconcerned by the incident and irritated that I had called. I would NOT feel safe with this company.

I never thought I would have this much to say about an electric utility's powerhouse! But this is a…read moresurprisingly neat and free visitor attraction, even if you don't manage to book one of the official tours. We passed through on Highway 20 and our curiosity was piqued. Newhalem is a tiny little Pleasantville of a company town, with rows of employee housing surrounding the main visitor area. There's a rest stop area with ample parking, a general store and deli with outdoor restrooms, a decommissioned supply train, a suspension bridge leading to a trail that takes you to the old powerhouse, picnic tables, and the new powerhouse and gardens. That's a lot! The restrooms are basic, but clean and well supplied. The general store is nicer than a typical convenience store, with fancy snacks and pretty decent prices. They have wine and Juanita's tortilla chips! They serve a minimal amount of hot food (pizza, popcorn) that didn't look very appetizing. The tour office seems to be closed (or yet to open?). It looked unfinished when we peeked in the windows, with cartons of "2015-16 Visitor Brochures" and half-built displays inside. Maybe that will open later this year. We didn't see any info about booking official tours anywhere. The historic train once conveyed supplies to the powerhouse, and the bell still works, so you should definitely yank on it and ring it. The suspension bridge is very narrow and wobbly, but it has a lovely view of the river, even if you don't follow the one-mile trail to the old powerhouse. A short distance away from the rest stop is the new powerhouse, which has a separate but small parking lot for guests. There is a small visitor center that you can go into and look down on the power plant, plus a historical display with some artifacts from the powerhouse's past that are interesting. It only takes a few minutes to go through here. You can't tell from the road, but there's also a steep set of stairs leading to a series of gardens, artificial pools and waterfalls! It sounds like they light them up at night, so that might be worth stopping for if you happen to be passing through after dark. The stairs are quite steep, muddy in places, and not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. But the waterfall is very pretty and you can get a good view from the first, lower bridge without having to climb up the entire stairway. Everything is free and open to the public, and it's more interesting than I would have guessed! Recommended if you like clean restrooms, getting out to stretch your legs, waterfalls, snacks, trains, or hiking. Which is pretty much everyone.

The North Cascades Learning tour guides were extremely gracious, and provided extensive insights about the land, lake, and dams. If you're wanting to attend this tour plan ahead to arrive on time, park exactly where it's designated to park (if you choose to park where it states no parking you are running the risk of car damage due too falling rock debris) pack allergy friendly snacks, and plan to explore the learning center, gift shop, and walking trails after the tour and lunch. I highly recommend for all, and will be referring all of our out of town guests to plan a day trip to the North Cascades National park and secure a ticket for the Diablo Lake tour.

We were going for a motorcycle ride (me in the sidecar on my uncle's motorcycle) and stopped so I could see where the station was located. My aunt also checked her gloves - they are heated gloves to keep her hands warm from the wind and the cold while driving her motorcycle. In the winter the mountain passes can get dangerous with all the snow, so if I want to visit them this is where I would take the train to and they would pick me up/drop me off. We were going to take a few photos together, but with the motorcycle helmet on my head I misinterpreted this as my aunt and uncle asking if I needed to use the restroom... Next time! Next to the train platform is a parking lot with a number of spaces to park one's vehicle or motorcycle. A sign and informational board provide a little information about the station and Amtrak more generally. There is a small restroom (port-a-potti style) near the platform. Located a short drive from downtown Leavenworth, the station is easy to access and lacks noise pollution. Mountains are visible from the station, making it quite a serene place to catch or depart from a train especially if you need to wait off the train at the station.

We didn't know anything about going on safari, and Phil build a custom trip that catered to exactly our personal travel style of going to some of the more off-the-beaten-path places with fewer tourists, but still lots of amazing experiences (we watched a family of elephants chase off a pair of male lions!). Everyone we met was on their 4th or 10th safari and when they found out we'd never been before, they'd always ask, "So how did you even find this place?" Also I had no idea you could have a vacation with this much adventure and yet zero stress. Having Phil take care of everything and getting it all arranged for and paid in advance took a HUGE load off of us, which was so great as we both have jobs where we typically do a lot of planning and project management. By taking care of that, Phil let us go on an exciting vacation where we actually got to RELAX.
