In these trying times financially, it can be hard to find a rental that is not 3 times the rent ( First month, last month, and security deposit) just to move in. If you are considering steeplechase as your future home, I do strongly suggest. Compared to the other apartment complexes on Cranbrook Road, this is by far the best one. You will see some mentions about mice, which we do occasionally have ONLY when it starts to get cold and they are itty bitty tiny field mice and maintenance does not hesitate to come out and seal anything they can. Previous apartments i have lived in, talking to your property manager is a nightmare. They are either impossible to get ahold of or, when you are able to speak to them, they are extremely rude and dismissive of how you feel. I can genuinely say Steeplechase does not have this issue. Erikka Davis our asst prop manager takes complaints very very seriously especially when they are affecting the quality of her residents lives. If you have to stay around cockeysville, and steeplechase is within your budget, i absolutely recommend. read more

my apartment has been described as luxury however, does not exist. luxury meaning they have forced you to pay for amenities that you do that you need or have access to. When maintenance is called to fix something it is only a Band-Aided my bathroom vanity needs to be replaced because it is damaged on the bottom. However, they chose to take a piece of plywood screw it to the vanity and recaulked the bottom not only do I have issues reaching out to Rental office. I also have trouble reaching out to the regional manager. The rental office seems to be much more luxurious, the most of the apartments in the complex not to mention the single pane windows that are very dirty and not luxurious. read more

This is supposed to be one of the better complexes in the area. It's not- it's the same as the others on Cranbrook They go through managers almost as fast as tenants. There is a non-smoking clause in the lease yet they take Noooooo action against offenders. The newest manager didn't even know it is a non -smoking community!!! I have been having several issues with the management and maintenance since they have not been fixing something in my apt that started two months ago (the first day that I moved in). June 21st: First I had a bathroom ceiling leak from the neighbors' upstairs toilet (at least it was clean water). It took maintenance few hours to stop the leak. July 21st: Then a MONTH later they came to fix the ceiling (cut and patch) because I was calling every few days requesting it. Today August 19th: It has been two months and they haven't paint the ceiling to make it look good because I am paying a lot to hve a pretty and good looking place. Firstly I would like to say how excited I was to move to steeplechase , I got a voicemail from Jordan leasing agent stating me and my partner were approved . following two days later I got a denial letter as an email stating we are denied three days before our "move in date" . I show up to the leasing office to speak with the property manager Dana . I explained what happened and she rolls her eyes and says "he didn't see the report" so why call and say someone is approved when they are not . what is the process ?? she couldn't explain that . I was willing to play the voice mail from her employee stating we are approved her response was "I don't care what he said your denied " I then proceeded to ask can I apply again with another person she told me I am not able to apply again EVER ! I've been here with my son and fiancé for a year,,,,apartment ok compared to other in area....I have people with loud kids on the left of the apartment and on my right....but they are kids so I never complained....People smoking joints and the smell is all over the building....I do nt even smoke !!the next door people have a puppy it cried for a few months still I never said nothing.....they would wake up at 6am to 630 am being loud cause there kids went to school woke us up too...still never said nothing....never complained about loud TVs,,,thin walls,,,,bad air conditioner,,,bad washer dryer,,old discusting bathtub,,rude in the office,, they sent us a late rent note on our door saying we didn't pay that month ,,,when we Never Ever payed late..we always payed days earlier,,carpets suck in rooms,,walls super thin so you can hear the neighbors breath ,,,I can go on and on...but I never complained!!!!! Simply HORRIBLE all around. FIRST, they tried to scam me: Moving from out of state, I needed to find an apartment that would allow me to reserve a room before I arrived. Over the phone Steeplechase was courteous and whatnot, but once I arrived Jaime, their leasing manager, played a SCAM on me. They teed up the lease for 17 months though we had constantly talked of a standard 12 month period. BEWARE. Then miraculously she could not find the email where we "had discussed" this 17 month period. NEXT, the apartments are LOUD. I could hear the TV of the resident below me. MORE, they are SMELLY. Nice combination of dust, old, and smoke (person below me smoked a pack a day, IN THEIR ROOM). Once the smell of fresh (add, sloppily done) painting wore off, I was embarrassed to bring anyone over to my place. EVEN MORE, speaking of smoke: when your apartment fills of smoke when you open your windows, or even when windows are closed, don't expect anyone in their office to care for your living conditions or HEALTH. AND LAST, when you try to move out citing the aforementioned health reasons, they will ensure you that second hand smoke is not a health risk or a nuance, and then SMACK you with two month's rent penalty. OVERALL: Steeplechase is smelly, noisy, and overpriced. If you chose to live here, GODSPEED. read more

For the price I'm paying, the apartment is a very good deal. I pay about $250 below market rate, as the Property Manager who was in place when I moved in offered me an awesome deal that I couldn't refuse. The apartment has wood (panel) floors, faux-granite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom, and updated appliances/kitchen faucet. So, for the price, the apartment is a good deal. However, there was a Property Manager switch this past summer, and the communication with the leasing office now is nothing less than atrocious. I recently wanted to receive clarification on the pet policy (as some buildings are pet-friendly and some arent...info I wasn't told when I moved in), and I left the current Property Manager 3 voicemails to speak on this issue, none of which were returned. Because it doesn't appear that she stays past 5 (even though the office is open til 6 each evening), and she doesn't work weekends, I then had to take a half day from work, so that I could come see her in person. She said that she might be able to offer me an apartment switch to a pet-friendly building, told me to check out the new building, and to email her with my thoughts. She also said she'd call me before she left for the day. I did as I was told (emailing her at 3 that day), but received no email back from her. At 5 that same day, I went back to her office, to find that she had left (without calling, as she claimed she would). I emailed her *again*....and to date, I have NEVER heard back from her. It wasn't until I went back into the office the following week, after work, around 5:15 (she obviously had left for.the day), and angrily told the Asst. Property Manager that this treatment is absolutely unacceptable, that I *finally* started getting some back and forth communication going....with the Asst. Property Manager. I still have never heard back from the Property Manager, for either the emails nor the voicemails I have sent to her. Oh, and they approved the apartment switch....if I'd sign a new lease at the current (i.e $250 higher) market rate (so they could get me out of the great rate Im currently in). No. TL;DR- If you can get a good deal, and don't anticipate needing to get in contact with the Property Manager, this is a nice place to live. Otherwise, look elsewhere. read more

The Cranbrook area is filled with apartment complex after apartment complex. Steeplechase is probably one of the nicer apartments, but it is also one of the most pricey. They do have a small fitness center and pool for residents. And this is one of the few places that accepts cats and dogs. But I absolutely love that all the units have updated washer/dryer units. And the closets are excellent ladies! I've only seen the one bedrooms, but they have two very large walk-in closets in the bedroom alone! The closets sell the place! read more

Odd experience. These apartments are absolutely beautiful and the grounds are well maintained. The kitchen is stunning and the apartments are very spacious. There's only two apartments on each level? Correct me if I'm wrong. My experience with the staff members was very confusing. One said one thing while the other said another. I called after seeing a special they had and I asked if they had the SureDeposit...it's listed on the website or in a review somewhere. Anyway, I didn't pull the question out of my butt. The lady was very rude when she said no and then she slammed the phone down! Also, when I was handed an application in person, she asked me my salary out loud! That was pretty rude to me. read more

Absolutely a dump. Water issues constantly, mold on exterior walls, floods from old & clogged drain pipes and the latest - renovations have begun and there are mice EVERYWHERE in my building. Mangement is rude and unresponsive. Maintenance guys are very nice, but are handcuffed by the other staff. The put band aids on repairs because they can't get the proper fixes or replacement- my a/c unit is 15 yrs old according to the serial number! Works fine as long as the outside air is under 85, after that I can't cool my apartment below 79. They have to recharge the freon every month during the summer because it keeps leaking. Bet I pay 2x more a month than if they replaced the unit! Four more months........... read more

I got a discount by signing an 18 month lease. NEVER AGAIN. You shouldn't commit yourself to any place "that" long before knowing what you're getting yourself into. Parking is search ever time I come home. Eventually I can find a spot, but that's usually all the way at the end of the lot near a flickering street lamp. During the week it's quiet, but first thing Saturday morning, the neighbors are a nightmare. It's like they're having a party when it's only 9am. I've complained to the office, and while they said they would do something, the before noon weekend wake up's continue. Overall the grounds are clean. It's when it snows, that things are bad. It's like the snow trucks plow the snow right in front of your vehicle. Good Luck on making it out the parking lot. Even better luck trying to get someone in leasing to lend a shovel or provide salt. (Not going to happen.) The crime in the area is relatively low. That's an absolutely plus for Baltimore. I have zero complaints there. The construction of the units is pretty sturdy. Older, definitely not luxury, but sturdy. The constant water shut offs due to pipe work can get irritating, but hey nothing can be done about that. Maintenance does a good job, that is, when you can them to come. It's like the leasing office holds all the request. I usually have to ask at least three times, plus write a letter to the corporate office before something gets fixed. You pay entirely too much on rent for piss poor customer service. The personnel in the office will do and say everything they possibly can to avoid addressing your issue when it comes to maintenance requests. While there are a few professional ones, the majority are very unprofessional.Oh and the first time you're late on rent, expect a court order posted on your mail box, court fees, and late fees. (No exceptions) Their policy on dogs in certain buildings is a joke. I have allergies and specifically requested a Dog Free building. My neighbor next door and below me both had dogs. I can't even walk outside my door without an asthmatic episode. Overall, it's an okay place to live. I haven't had pests or bugs. If they went down a little on rent, everything mentioned could be tolerated. This is not by far luxury living, as advertised, but it's a place to lay your head, if you can get past everything else. read more

Rodents, pest, annoying neighbors, and a lack of help from managment. My unit has an really problem with rodents and bugs, even after pest control came and supposedly "fixed" my problem, I still have an issue. Its to the point where I would much rather just break my lease and move back in with my mother. My neighbors are annoying and ridiculously noisy, and management seems to only care about getting paid. Once the rent is paid they no longer seem to care. While there are aspects of the area and my apartment that I like, the infestation in my apartment is way too much for me to handle and totally outweighs any posistive I find about that place. Truthfully I don't really wana give it one star; for the amount of money thats being paid I expected a whole lot better than what I got. I will never make the mistake of renting from a place without doing a through background check on it first. I suppose I have steeplechase to thank for that. read more

This place is TRASH! Do not move here. The surrounding area is scary to say the least at night and you are overpaying for an apartment that is not all that kept up. They must just paint over mold, leaky ceilings, and have people move right in. I no longer feel safe in these apartments, and to be frank, and not comfortable in my own home anymore. When I first moved in it was young couples or familes or young professionals. THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE NOW. I can not stress that enough. I would not refer anyone to this place. Living there was the longest year of my life. First, it is extremely overpriced for the quality of the apartments. Walls are very thin, heard my upstairs neighbors do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.. Second, management is rude and unresponsive. It took me 4 emails and 2 phone calls to finally get an answer, on multiple issues. They would also have maintenance come in unannounced with no warning - when asked why this happened, of course no response. I tried to sublet my apartment and was told I'm not allowed. Also, halfway through my lease they changed the pet friendly rule (for my building only, supposedly) - therefore causing me to either get rid of my dog or move to a building that is dog friendly, having to resign another 1 year lease. Management will respond to your concerns with their snark and incompetence half the time and won't bother to respond at all the other half. I've never been so unhappy with an apartment complex.
