The following is a true review of my family's experience with Dr Adamjee at Manhattan Eastside…read moreOrthodontics and I am happy to provide proof through photos, documentation, contracts etc. My daughter had braces placed by a different orthodontist who wanted to charge us month by month. We never got treatment with that orthodontist because we learned it is better to have a set contract. We interviewed a couple of orthodontists as well as Dr Adamjee, who all said my daughter needed braces for one year.
We thought Dr Adamjee was charming and charismatic and so chose her practice. However, after a few months, we notice that one of my daughter's teeth was being pushed the wrong way so that the root was coming through the gum. We also noticed that there was little improvement in her teeth, and tried to talk to Dr Adamjee about it. Dr Adamjee continually dismissed our concerns, and when we asked why my daughter's tooth was pushing through the gum, she literally replied with, 'I don't know'. She actually told us to ask our dentist, who was as confused as us because Dr Adamjee was meant to be the expert.
Eventually, I went to an expert who took xrays and explained that Dr Adamjee was pushing my daughter's teeth the wrong way and that the braces simply needed to be arranged to push her teeth the right way! Around this time, things got pretty unpleasant with Dr Adamjee who appeared to be angered that we were starting to ask questions and were concerned that at after almost a year of treatment, she had not only failed to improve my daughter's teeth, but made them look worse. Her main response was to tell us my daughter could lose the tooth that was being pushed the wrong way, and that my daughter's issues were 'complicated'. At no point did she admit that her treatment may be causing this.
Now that we were fully paid up and almost year had passed, Dr Adamjee called us into her office, thrust release papers at us and said that because 'we'd lost faith in her' she could no longer continue to treat our daughter. We were still paying for our other two son's orthodontic treatments with her at the time which were also not going as hoped but were certainly not as dire as my daughter's treatment.
Part of us was relieved that we could now take our children elsewhere but we were out over ten grand. Because of Dr Adamjee's treatment choices, we were forced to start all over again with our children. My daughter was told that in order to fix her teeth now, she would be in braces another year at least. Thankfully, we picked an amazing orthodontist who in our daughter's first 4 week appointment, had moved our daughter's teeth out of their compromised position and the root was no longer showing. All of the issues Dr Adamjee seems to have caused, have been resolved, and now, a year later, my daughter's teeth are straight and beautiful. I really did wait because I didn't want to write a negative review without making sure that I got the facts right. Even though we had to pay thousands more to start new contracts for all of our children and my daughter was forced to be in braces for a full extra year, at least we finally got it right with a highly professional and competent orthodontist.
