All things considered a pretty good burger for the money. Better than McDonalds, Burger King or Wendy's

I have never had an issue here. Everyone is normally very friendly and helpful. Most times I have been here the kitchen is clean and they are wearing gloves and showing good hygiene. I ordered the double burger with fries. I believe it's $5.55 and I added Frisco sauce. I really enjoy their burgers because the value menu is worth it if you do not want to spend much money. I was starving last night and my wife is coming home from the suburbs and it was about 1130 at night and I asked her to stop at steak 'n Shake. I really like the Frisco burger and it did not disappoint. It was piping hot fresh. it was absolutely delicious. Hit the spot. Best staff ever with a wonderful manager! They turned my day around by remaking my burger that was made wrong because I ordered wrong. They did not have to do that, and once I realized it was me that made the mistake they were still happy to fix. Plus they gave me another fry since I had to drive back!! This is fast food, so I was not expecting the service I received. I did not add whip cream to my granddaughter's shake and told her I was sorry. The staff heard me and immediately add it! The staff removed our tray and even disposed of our trash. I was also impressed by the cleanliness and number of staff. I will definitely return. read more

Absolute DOG SHIT... You MUST use the kiosk to order and pay... They don't even bring the food out to you, you must retrieve it yourself from a counter, yet they have the nerve to ask if you'd like to leave a "tip." A tip to WHO?!?!? 04/12/2024 10:34PM Went with my family after an important business meeting, Decided to get some Steak and shake Something to notice, they changed the soda fountain to only allow you fill up with a receipt. My wife ask me to refill for her, I did, I did try, soda fountain would not allow me to, I asked the lady, "why isn't it letting me?" She replied "because you already refilled" (which I did not, in fact I did not got a soda for myself) I replied "no I did not, can you help me get soda?" She replied "you already did" I replied "I will buy another soda for my wife to show you what happens when you try to refill " Long story short (apparently machine only lets to fill once to some customers) Whoever had the idea for that soda fountain has some lock of ideas, wouldn't just be better to ask for receipt and handle cup? read more

Decent burgers. Shakes are pretty awesome too. Everything else is just okay. In fact, this review would have been higher but since finding a hair under my burger, the burger was remade but not HOT. So it was probably a burger intended for someone else or made by mistake and just given to me. Unfortunately there was one apology for the hair but nothing else. Haven't been to Steak and Shake in a while so while in Chicago with the boyf, I took him to his first S&S! We got there after a long day at the United Center after midnight. We had to wait a little bit for a table but after we were seated, our waitress (who was running all the tables) was awesome. She remembered our orders, didn't rush us, and always made sure that our drinks were filled. The best part (besides the yum food and the cool ambiance)? The price. Crazy cheap. For two sodas, two meals, our total was just over ten dollars. Seriously insane. I recommend the steakburger and the seasoning salt on the fries is legit. read more

I've been here several times and I admit as I hang my head in shame, it is usually after a night of drinking. The wait staff seems to get side tracked in the evening. The crowd is usually other drunks or high schoolers out for "coffee". I have seen all stereotypes here from Jocks to Punks, from Cheerleaders to Emo or artsy folks with some old people sprinkled in for a Midwest crazy late night sundae. I would get side tracked too. I've only been here once during the daytime and that was when the place first opened. Burgers are ok but I must say that I think the one I like is the most unhealthy sandwich ever made. The Frisco Melt is really the only thing I get if I'm getting a meal. Not too hot for their other menu items. Honestly I like their skinny fries and I like the fact that when I get them there is little to no salt! I like to salt my own stuff if I feel like it. Usually I try not to add any because processed food already has a ton in there. The SHAKES!! Yes! This is the reason to come here! (If you are too drunk DO NOT get a shake, trust me) Today I'm not drunk, I assure you. Late night Walmart run and I decided I needed a shake. Don't judge! So I went through the drive-thru. It took forever to order a shake and I think it is because it is late and the person might have been having issues. No worries. I got a side by side Chocolate and Strawberry shake and shared it with my hubby. Well.... Kind of shared? Their shakes are really tasty and they have many choices. I don't know if they are really hand scooped but they sure taste better than anything I've gotten from other places with Drive-thrus! There is one called Orange Freeze.... After a great night at the show nearby, we realized that the popcorn, nachos and candy wasn't enough to call it a night. So we finally decided to try this place out. Their trade mark are definitely their milk shakes, which you have the option to keep it Classic, Side-By-Side combination or go nuts with the flavorsome Specialty shakes featuring chocolate bar bits. As far as the burgers there isn't nothing special about them, I guess their "Thin 'n Crispy" French fries stands them out however, they are quite fulsome. In addition they offer a "4 Meals Under $4" which it's really worth it. Our order took a little while to be completed, I guess because we were a large group and it was late night but, the waiter service was great. The place is filled with Teen and Team Spirit as local jocks, cheerleaders and preps mostly dine here, making it an agreeable place to hangout. Would give less stars if I could. I've worked in restaurants and this honestly is one of the worst I've ever seen. This one in particular is horrendously slow every time we go here. We should not have to wait 15 minutes to be greeted, I don't care how busy you are. After asking the hostess who our server was, she gave a blank stare, said "uhh, I'm not sure let me go ask." We then watched as she asked every other server to take us until the poor girl working the cash register was told to come take our order. Obviously, we were more than ready to order at this point. We then waited another 25 minutes and still our one shake had not arrived yet. Then our server came over and said "you're going to hate me but our grill just went out and we cannot make any burgers." The only food they could make was fried, but like most people, we came here specifically for the burgers. Apparently the same thing had happened the night before as well. We left along with a slew of other guests. This is one time in a stream of many poor experiences we've had at this particular restaurant. It is horrendously understaffed, 75% of all of the vacant tables were dirty and the floors don't look like they've been cleaned at all in the past 48 hours. Finally, the on-shift manager should have been making an appearance to apologize for the wait, unclean tables, etc and FOR SURE to tell everyone the news that they cannot get what they ordered. As we were leaving, there did not seem to be one employee out front for us to ask questions. It seemed like they were all hiding from any upset customers. We go to the Schererville Steak 'n Shake usually once a week (drive thru). Order pretty much the same thing every time (#2 with mustard added, a single with NO cheese, only tomato and 1 regular drink and 1 kid's size drink). The cost is $11.84. Tonight my husband gave the clerk a 20 dollar bill and one dollar and 84 cents in coins. He should have received a $10 bill back as change. He did not. The clerk started handing out drinks and sandwich bag and straws... it wasn't until we parked (in their lot) and started eating that we realized we were not given a receipt or any change! This has happened before. I wanted to go inside and tell them but my husband doesn't like confrontation and we needed to be somewhere quickly. I checked the back to be sure, and there was NO receipt. Expensive lesson to learn. This never happened back when it was a REAL restaurant with friendly, conscientious staff. NOT happy read more

Our family loves coming here, especially on the weekends when kids eat for free. It's a great deal for the person who wants to save plus have a great meal. Walked in and it's 2am in the morning. There are 12 dirty tables and 7-8 employees working. A waiters sat us down next to a dirty table next to an overflowing garbage can that the trash person left and never came back for. As I waited for my order to be taken I watched them behind the table laughing watching videos on their phones. When the orders were finally entered our food came back incorrectly. When I asked for my order to be corrected I was given a the topping my fries were to be tossed in. I'm mostly disappoint because the food is awesome as usual but the service is sad and the smell is gross the environment is bad there are only 3 tables of people here and the restaurant is still dirty. This place has gone down hill ever since I moved last year. I am not sure what happened! Last I was there visiting Jan of 2015, I had never had so many issues in my life at this place, I was a regular. They messed up my order through the drive through (took 30 mins) to get my food, then I had to go in to get my right order took them another 30 mins to get my food. 2nd time I was there when i visited few months ago I waited over 25 minutes to get a shake... The place was a mess and the floors had fries all over, gunk, bathrooms were gross I felt like this place hasn't been cleaned in years. I know they had a new manager and must say they messed up this place BAD....... fix your place up people. Never use to be this bad! read more

It's quick and fresh. The staff is nice and friendly. It's a place I come to once or twice a week. It's much better than McDonald's. I like watching the burgers get made when we walk in. The shakes are good especially if you come in during happy hour and ALL drinks including shakes are half off. The only think I hate here is the floor isn't the cleanest. But being open 24 hours it might be difficult to keep clean. Also the bathroom has a weird smell. read more

The vast majority of my experiences with this Steak 'n' Shake have been pretty positive, with good food and really reasonable prices. I'm not a fan of shoestring fries, but that is a stylistic choice of the chain as a whole rather than this individual location. Really, the only complaint I have had is occasional issues with service. 4 out of 5 waiters are friendly and capable, but there are a few there who I try to avoid when possible. Some are just plain grumpy, one is basically entirely incompetent (and yet has been there for years). Minor reservations aside, at least this location is far superior to the ones in Tinley Park and Frankfort. If you have a hankering for burgers for cheap, you can do a lot worse than this particular Steak 'n' Shake. read more
