Don't go in the evening! Such terrible service! Staff is so immature would rather play games an run all around the place not taking your order, not brining you your food, an just ignoring you. Staffed with employees but nothing's getting done. Took 10 minutes just to be seated when they just playing games not working. Also the people working are filthy!! They smell horrible and there clothes are so nasty. They should not be able to work coming in looking the way they do. Worst Steak 'n Shake I have ever been 2. 11/18 evening @ 9:30 : Stood and waited to be seated for 10 minutes. One waitress was literally within 10 ft and looked at us and then looked away. So we proceeded to sit our selves and same thing, no help no greeting at all. Not too bad. They do a really good job of getting my special order burger correct. Overall, the service really kills this particular location. Going in here on a Saturday for the 1st time in maybe a year and I regretted the decision. They have 2 people waiting tables and it took 20 mins to order our food. Terrible customer service. Tried to eat at Steak N Shake in Plainfield last night around 11 PM with 3 friends. Stood in line for five to ten minutes without any employee welcoming us, or asking us to wait, or let alone to sit us at a table. Counted 6 tables that were not cleaned from previous customers. Finally after everyone decided to leave, I asked the cashier to get me the manager. She said she was in the back counting. I told her I wanted to speak with her, so she went off to get her. While waiting for the manager, a waitress finally came over and asked of we wanted to be seated. I told her no, and that we were waiting for the manager. She said she would go check too. About 3 minutes later the manager showed up and I told her how disappointed we were in their customer service and cleanliness. She said we could have a seat now, and that the other table were from customers that all got up at the same time and left. I can't believe that someone who was in the back of the store could see that 6 tables decided to leave at the same time. We will not waste our time at a restaurant that does nothing to entice customers to eat and spend money, but only gives lame excuses. Photo shows 3 table not cleaned off. Steak n Shake has always been a favorite of mine and I've been visiting this location for 20+ years. Dang, that made me feel old. However, over the last year it has taken a nose dive as far as service. Tonight was HORRIBLE!! Management has been neglegent on training staff! They don't know how to clean tables, sit patrons, place orders timely, I'm not sure if it is make food in a timely fashion and serve it or simply how to serve it promptly. What I do know is that I had to help the host figure out how to seat customers, not to mention advise on tables to clean (they were all either dirty or full, no open clean ones). I obtained our silverware and napkins, told the waitress our shakes were in the window and had been for some time. When the food arrived, well over an hour after we had ordered and tables who had came in after us had their food, it was cold. Not slightly warm but very, VERY cold. I refused it, I wasn't accepting a cold meal after waiting that long.... even though my nine year old told me he was willing to eat a cold meal by that point. Ultimately, I blame management. It is up to them to hire, train and retain staff. Sure, not everyone is meant for customer service in the food industry however, what was on display in such an awful manner tonight was simply the lack of management that cares enough to invest it their employees. As I was waiting to pay, yes I paid for the meal, I was looking around and noticed the filth that covered the floors, countertops and tables. It made me nauseous. Went there our first night in town. We stood there for over 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. After being seated I felt we were more of an inconvenience to social hour than a paying customer. The food.....I had the original......there was supposed to be double meat. Stood at the sign that said please wait to be seated for 15 min while the hostess made a drink tray of about 4 sodas. She never made eye contact. Cook and manager also completely ignored us as well. When she finally seated us, she couldn't have been more apathetic. We asked the people next to us how long they had been waiting. They said they had been there for about 30 min and had just received drinks!! I could see the joy in their faces when we put the menus back on the hostess station and left. WOW, as difficult as it is nowadays to find jobs, you'd think this place could find employees who actually want to work. Somewhat busy but not really...we walked in and one of the daughter's teammates was there waiting for a to-go...they had at least a 15 min jump on us leaving the convention center. Anyhow, we figured sit and maybe that will make the difference. A server walked by us and asked how many, we say 4, and she says just a minute. 5 minutes later she seats us ... By throwing 4 menus all together in a pile on a table for 6 and walking away....not another word. I've never had good service here because I always considered how busy they were but tonight there was no excuse for their service they weren't busy. Tonight was the worse service I have ever experienced and should have walked out but it was late and my elderly mother needed to eat. They were prompt to seat us but 5 minutes later they sat someone took their order, and served their drink before anyone glanced our way and we were the first table right behind the hostess stand. They seemed to be confused who was to wait on us and when they finally did they brought our check with our food and from that point it was self serve to the point I went up and got ice for our drinks. This is the worst Steak 'n Shake we've ever been to. The service has been horrible the last 5-10 times we've been here. I'm literally here right now and we just waited 12 minutes for our drink order, had the menus just thrown on the table and all of the waitresses ignored us and still are. Contemplated walking out. The worst service ever. Every time I go in this restaurant it has others complaining about the length of time it takes to get service. I have now had my second worst service and I will not go back. I ordered chili and the cup had no meat or beans in it and they brought to me and took another 10 miniutes to get silverware and I still not have a straw we ordered 3 double burger meals with cheese only one came with cheese and if we would have keep waiting for the server to come back food would have been cold. Everytime I come here its a disaster. Waiting 20-30 minutes for the waiter/waitress and to place drink orders. Waiting an hour or longer after ordering for our food. Orders made wrong. Always a rude waiter/waitress. Last (and final) visit the manager sat our party of 3, threw the menus down and said in an angry tone "there you go." It was obvious she didn't want to be there. I love their burgers and $4.00 menu items. Most all the older waitress are very friendly and always gets our orders in quick times and some of newer ones are not as good. Only problem I have is the cleanliness of the floors and restrooms. The floors are very greasy and slick and hard to look at and hard to walk on at times. Restrooms are always nasty, and more time should be spent on cleaning them good. This would make customers come back. Managers in my opinion are not very good at their jobs or place would be lot cleaner. More attention please to cleanliness. read more
