Food was cold and soggy. Restaurant was dirty. The service was mediocre. The kids liked it.

We have eaten here many times before but in the last year, always did drive thru because if Covid. Today we decided to have breakfast and we're surprised to find out that breakfast had been discontinued last year. We were greeted by an incredibly strong and rank smell. It smelled like someone had mopped the floors with a sour, nasty mop. We decided to stay and thankfully our burgers and onion rings were tasty and our server Miss Doris was friendly and efficient. There was NO music and it was like eating in a morgue, a sad quiet morgue in a restaurant. The pretty colorful menu has been replaced by a one page, black and white xeroxed menu We will go back to using drive thru, it's wasn't a pleasant experience to eat inside. Solid burger, fresh fries, and friendly service. Total bill for three people, including a milkshake, was $13.00. I don't know how that can be beat. The only observation I made is that the restaurant was a bit dirty - looks like the booths and floor needed to be cleaned. Other than that, this was a great experience. read more

Amazing food! Our double cheeseburgers were cooked perfectly, they were hot, and were partially wrapped in envelope style tissue paper which kept the burger and the toppings together as we ate it. Way less sloppy! We have never seen that at a Steak 'n Shake before. It was really great! Then the burger was placed in a cardboard burger box. Again, we've never seen this before at a Steak 'n Shake. That was particularly nice. The burgers were not greasy at all. The fries were hot. The chili was amazing. This particular Steak 'n Shake is a stand out and seems to be doing things a little differently than the other Steak 'n Shakes we've been to. Even the hamburger buns seemed a little different. Tried this place 4 times over the last week. 3 out of the 4 times they did not understand simple requests such as 'no onions.' It made it onto the receipts, but somehow didn't translate to the kitchen staff. That was just an example of one mistake. Each time our order was messed up. The one time we thought maybe it was all good there was a small surprise pile of onions and there were no utensils- so the person that got chili Mac was SOL. I've gone back and forth on this place. I mean, it's fast food so expectations shouldn't be too high. Occasionally you'll come here even when it's dead and service is terribly slow, drinks don't get refilled, etc. other times, the service is great. The reason for the four stars is that for fast food, this is great. I love steak and shake. I have since I was a kid and have never stopped. When we arrived we waited about 5 minutes to be seated. Gave us enough time to read other reviews and we became rather worried about the service after reading a few. We were pleasantly surprised when we were greeted by a rather friendly waitress! Our Waitress was prompt and efficient (didn't smell of smoke or look like she awoke from a meth coma as other reviewers experienced)! I had the garlic burger, which was perfect amount of meat, garlic and cheese. Hubby had the bacon steak burger. Menu indicated it would be served with 2 pieces of bacon but he received 4 (bonus). Avoid at all costs. I don't expect much from any Steak n Shake, but even that was too much of an expectation for this location. Service was horrible and extremely slow. We were given no silverware, were brought drinks with no straws, and after asking for both we waited and waited and then finally got up to get them ourselves. Went through the drive through today. We ordered "a cheeseburger, with fries and a chocolate shake" then we added to the order another cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake. We only got one shake at the window and when we asked for the second, the employee said "we can't add on to your order at the window." We weren't adding on to the order, we just wanted to receive what we ordered. We tried to explain this and the employee just said again "we can't add on to your order." When you walk in the door, even on the slowest days, it take at least 10 mins for someone to even acknowledge you, let alone seat you. Most of the time, waitresses and staff will walk right by you and act like you are invisible. The waitresses are mostly friendly, but are always new and dont know the menu. There have also been a few times where our waitress reeked of cigarette smoke and looked like she just crawled out of a meth coma. The food always come out fast, but is almost always wrong in some way. When I ask for the incorrect order to be fixed, I'm met with disdain and eye rolls. I won't order the shakes anymore, they are just bland and not worth it at all. Normally, I wouldn't return to a place like this, but for some reason, my kids love it. We came into the Osage Beach. Steak and Shake this afternoon with a large group (15 people). It took 45 minutes to get seated, after the waitress told us it would be impossible to seat us all together. This is where the problems began. Our part of the group (4 people) ordered 4 shakes a large order of onion rings and a large order of cheese fries. It took about 30 minutes to get any drinks brought to the table, half of the drinks were incorrect. After we received our drinks it took at least another 30 minutes to get our food. When we received our food, it was stone cold. On top of the food issues, our server was completely unapologetic about said issues. We will not be returning nor will we recommend. This location. I've never dined inside the restaurant, but have been through the drive-thru multiple times and have never had an issue. When reading the reviews from this place it is kind of unsettling because compared to the service we use to get at the Columbia (MO) Steak and Shakes this place should be 5 stars. Honestly, leaving a review for a fast food restaurant usually seems silly to me because the food is usually the same as everywhere else, and this is true with this Steak 'n Shake. It's good, don't have a problem with the food. The service is HORRIBLE. The past three times I've been, it's been just bad. This time made me write the review. My boyfriend and I met a couple of other friends there. My friends had already eaten, but were still sitting at the table. When we walked in, we waited a little bit for someone to greet us to say hi, but no one did so we just sat at the table figuring the waitress would see us. At this point, there were five other tables (none of them large) in the restaurant. Behind the counter, there were at least five people who worked there (not sure if they were all servers). Our waitress never came. We sat there for 10 minutes and no one said hi or asked us if we needed a menu. Here's a tip: when you are a waitress, and you see someone new join one of your tables, at the very least, GREET THEM. If it's not your table, you should tell that server or greet them yourself. It is so unprofessional to have five workers standing around and new customers walking in without a word of "hello." By the way, we left after 15 minutes of sitting there being ignored. Please have a talk with all the wait staff that worked Jan. 4 around 4:45 PM. It can and should be better than this. I am a waitress myself, so I am easy on restaurants usually. I give the steaknshake 1 star, because I drove way out of my way only to get to the door for it to be locked. It wasn't because the store was closed but only because they didn't feel like letting me in, therefore the workers felt no need to work. Because I pulled up at 12:53 a.m. and the store did not close until 2 a.m. that means that they do not lock the doors until exactly 2 a.m. As far as I know that's the law. As I was walking to the door I made eye contact with one of the waitresses and I know she acknowledged me. Generally and I say that loosely we aren't unsatisfied with this fast food joint. The service is normally standard for these types of restaurants; not overly superior but not overly crappy either. Steak and Shake in Osage Beach has some really good servers that some need to take lessons from. Smile, do not throw straws at customers, and pay attention to the customer when they are speaking to you. If you listen to the order, you would not have to make several trips and you would get better tips. Our experience on Saturday June 27,15 was horrible. She acted like we owed her something. When approaching our table,it was what do you want. Then when bringing drinks to the table, she threw the straw, and the drinks had no ice. The order was all wrong when she brought it to the table because she was preoccupied with something else that she was watching and she wrote the order wrong. I have worked in food service for 14 years and all it takes is smiles, friendliness, manners, and common courtesy. Train better and get rid of them if they cannot do their jobs. read more
