Stopped in for dinner on a road trip and we were pleasantly surprised. We had heard about Steak 'n Shake shifting from waitresses to calling out names and coming to the counter to pick-up food. We ordered our food at the kiosk and it came out quick, hot & fresh. The dining area was clean. It was an exceptional value being able to get a burger and fries for under six dollars per person. My son got a cookie dough milkshake that he enjoyed and my husband's onions rings were very good. My only complaint is that the fries were under salted, but that was a pretty easy fix. We were overall very happy with this reintroduction to Steak n Shake and plan to visit more often read more

We came to dine in on a Wednesday evening around 5:30. Upon first appearance, it was neat and orderly. We ordered on the kiosk, scanned our receipt to get our drinks and was promptly served! Food was piping hot! Hubby's chocolate shake was thick! Main issue was the dining room needed attention. There were napkins on the floor beneath our booth, cup lid and napkins on floor, and service bar with condiments was almost empty. The food was delicious! This was a solid experience! We came in hungry and the place was empty. I dislike the touch screen ordering. I get it... I just don't like it. The place was clean inside and had plenty of seating. My Reese's Peanut Butter Cup shake was up first. It was everything I was hoping for. Cold and flavorful! My chili 5-way came out next. This was a new experience for me. Horrible customer service. Placed order had delivered by door dash. Door dash brings wrong order and per door dash guy Steak 'n Shake gives wrong order. Call Steak 'n Shake talking to some boy kid finally one of them know and states he will remake food. After 45 mins waiting call numerous times to another boy kid to answer with another one in the background saying why did u answer the phone. He gets on the phone saying he couldn't call and thinking I was calling door dash not my responsible since he messed up the order. So at 851 I tell them I am coming to get order get there and the store is closed. Closed. Now did Th e boy kid say oh we are closing soon! Nope why would they do that. Find 2 cars in parking and sit behind until someone comes out. While chewing my food I felt like what seemed to be a bone. There was a piece of wire brush in my burger. Luckily I don't scarf down my food and felt it before I swallowed. Fast and friendly! I stopped with my granddaughter at her request. I didn't know the dining room was back open. It is, but you have to order from a kiosk. Ordered two bowls of chili in the drive thru and one of them had the lid placed on improperly, which caused it to spill all over the bag and the rest of the food I ordered. The bag ripped and I lost a good portion of my food, which, whatever. Accidents happen. However, my other chili's lid was still intact when my bag ripped, but when I went to eat it, it was NOTHING but broth. No meat, maybe two beans. The place is packed on Veterans Day. This could only result in deplorable service. Daphne is up to bat as our server. I'm hopeful because I have never seen Daphne in here working before. I was hesitant to come here because of the horrible reviews on the service and wait time. But it was the closest burger joint and I wanted to try it. The first wait was a little long l. It just seemed like the waiting staff was a bit frazzled . Half the tables weren't cleaned so I had to wait until they cleaned one and then was seated. Then I waited a bit longer for my server to take my order. But after that, it was fine. The food came quickly. They accommodated to my low carb diet by substituting the fries for a salad and wrapping my Royale Burger in lettuce. The server was very nice. The burger was excellent. It had been a fairly long time since I had last eaten at this restaurant, this was due to the fact that my last few experiences were less that favorable. It appears that it is under a new manager and the server, Madison was outstanding. My mom and I went in on a Sunday. It wasn't very busy when we got there. The first thing we were told was that they were out of shakes and also pickles. The waitress said a convention wiped them out. Terrible excuse. The manager or an employee should have got some from another location. It took 30 minutes to get our order and it was cold. We returned it and my mom's order was wrong and my meat was unusually small. A triple was barely a double. The bathroom was dirty and out of paper towels. The lobby was also dirty. The big problem was that there was really only 1 waitress serving 75% of the dining room. The other 25% was tables full of LOUD potty mouth teenagers that seemed to be friends of some of the staff. Hee. THis is the place to be. Oh how I wish we had Steak n Shakes in Socal. When ever I come to town to visit my rellies in C'Ville, I end up at this S&S. The double cheeseburger, wtih pickle, fries, and a chocolate shake. And a cup of chili. Seriously the BEST chili. I know, that's a lot of food, but trust me, it's worth it.
