How do you know this place is top notch? I was in Nashville for 3.5 days and this was the ONLY place I went to twice (and brought something home from). Yes, they were chosen by Food and Wine magazine as Tennessee's Best Coffee for the state in March of 2018. But is that good enough for me? No! I have to go there myself and see if the hype proves to be true. And guess what. It did. I started out with the Filtered Coffee of the Day. But that's not really where it started. It started when we walked up to a what appears to have once been an industrial park and is now a hodgepodge of places. Outdoor seating also including a grassy area (in the city?) and then we opened the door. I don't know what to say except when it was all said and done I kept repeating, "this place makes me happy". The espresso maker, the location of the service area (middle), the carafe's of water on every table and the focus of every team member just affirmed that Food & Wine Magazine actually knows what they're talking about. So back to that filtered coffee. It came out, as many do, in a carafe with a cafe style old fashioned glass and on a ceramic tray. It was impressive, but not unique. Then I poured. I only pour about 4 ounces at a time because I want it to stay hot. When the aroma of a coffee enters your nostrils and you begin to taste it before ever sipping, you know something magically is in that cup. The tastes that flooded my palate were akin to that of a children's choir inside the Metropolitan Opera. I could not stop smiling. And so I returned...the next day. A latte, and a bag of beans to bring home. These people know their stuff. I am not a expert on coffee or roasting, but I do know a thing or two. And I know Steadfast knows what they're doing. I may just have to order beans online because it will be too long before I visit Nashville again. *Insider's Tip -Don't get on your phone or laptop or tablet. The reviews of the butterscotch latte are completely on target. If you have nothing else, have this. Mine (with skim milk) was amazingly creamy and the butterscotch flavor was not overwhelming. For food, the gravlax caught my eye. A little spendy for breakfast, but the portion was great. I'm not sure I was a fan of the "housemade crackers" instead of a bagel or such, but they were a decent vehicle for spreading the herbed cream cheese and enjoying the salmon. Nice comfortable spot. I'd imagine in the summery months, this place gets a good laptop crowd. And it would be deserved. read more

I'm glad we went. It was an experience...kind of felt like an episode of Portlandia or an SNL skit. The coffee, though, was mediocre. But the ambiance was worth it. It's so clean and white inside you almost feel like you're in an old time medical facility or sanitarium. The staff were friendly and lacked the attitude you often find in these kinds of hipster places. The food looked good but we had just eaten. Visited this coffee shop one morning on my trip to Nashville. Definitely a very chill ambiance, lots of young people working on laptops etc. Not a lot of personality inside compared to let's say Barista Parlor for example, but still a very clean, aesthetically pleasing shop. Tons of seating indoors and outdoors as well. Probably not very family friendly, as I felt kind of embarrassed walking in with my younger siblings and my mom, but oh well. The coffee was delicious. I got my usual latte with oat milk, and it was a pleasant little drink. Perfect milk texture and the espresso was really light and flavorful, and I really enjoyed it. Definitely would try a cappuccino or maybe an iced espresso drink next time. My brother and sister got the rested butterscotch iced latte, and while they weren't impressed with the sweetness level, I'm sure it was a good subtle flavor, just different from the Starbucks drinks they're used to. My mom got the iced chai and really enjoyed it, and she's a chai lover so that's some high praise. The baristas weren't the nicest/most welcoming, and seemed slightly distracted talking to some girl at the counter. However we still got our drinks really quickly. The prices are a bit high even for specialty shops, like I think it was 1.50 for an alternative milk? That's kind of insane. Probably would choose this shop if I wanted to come back alone, because it has really good coffee and a lot of seating/workspace, but there's definitely options in Nashville with better prices, service, and ambiance. read more

What a quaint and tranquil atmosphere hidden in an industrial area! We enjoyed our breakfast burrito, breakfast tacos, avocado toast and blueberry muffin! We also had great iced coffees and lattes. (Family of 8) The trees outside in the sitting area are gorgeous and give enough shade. The inside is clean, and I love the true expresso machines. I totally get why Food & Wine Magazine named this coffee shop the best in Tennessee. Although it seems in an odd location off the beaten path and a bit tucked away, it has a great indoor and outdoor space. There's lots of seating in both - I definitely would have taken advantage of the adirondack chairs outside if I didn't have work to do (and if it was raining all day). The inside was clean and comfortable - with exception to the icy cold AC running nonstop - with a nice set up for people who want to come work or those who are just passing through. In fact, a group of about 15 people on a food tour came through and had a quick drink and bite at the standup bar in the center and then left a few minutes later. The drink menu was on the minimalist side, which is actually more intimidating to me than an extensive menu, so I ended up ordering a specialty drink: butterscotch latte. It was delicious!! Probably because of the whole milk that they put in it because I forgot to ask for nonfat :( They have a much lengthier food menu, which surprised me because most indie coffee shops just focus on coffee. Most were breakfast-type items - which I love! - that they serve until 5 pm. I went with the breakfast tacos, but the avocado toast and butternut squash burrata toast both had me drooling too. The tacos were delish, albeit a bit small, with all the right ingredients. Note: I added avocado. I would definitely go back here again and would highly recommend it to anyone. Again, I get why F&W magazine is. PS: I almost knocked off a star because of an off-putting barista who started his shift in the second half of my day here. He was dancing and fidgeting wildly the entire time. It was both distracting and uncomfortable. Hmmmm. For a coffee pro that I am. I wasn't impressed that much with their regular coffee. It was very nutty and bitter. I had it black and I drink my coffee black, but I just did not like it at all. I paid for the coffee and I had to drink it.... It's a snooty cool trendy hot spot. It does get packed inside. I like the style and ambience. Literally no lie on Saturday morning took 25 minutes to get avocado toast. I asked for no egg and they put egg. Poor girl in the back was cooking solo, so I understood. Toast was crunchy, extra toasted. I do like how the coffee was served on a plate with glass cup and extra coffee on the side. Other than that, it was just alright for me. When one enters any establishment it's necessary to be warm and inviting. There is a big bar and it's very inviting. However, you then realize that one has to go to the cashier to pay first before sitting at the bar. If you want to add to your order or have another coffee, one has to return to the cashier to pay for the refill which is $1. I'm just thinking there should be a more welcoming system. Get the coffee servers/makers to introduce themselves to the guests. Make the guest welcome. I felt as if the person serving me was giving me, "Hurry up and bugger off" vibes. The food is good. Mediocre coffee. Service needs to improve. I can't be bothered going to the cashier for another coffee so, I'll just leave. read more

Simply dreaming, as I am back here in New York, wondering where I can find a place as wonderful as Steadfast. I absolutely love where this place is located, the seating, the coffee, the innovation, the ambiance, everything. We passed this place on our way to dinner the night before and we both agreed we were coming the next morning. We were out the door by 9 and at Steadfast by 9:05, having an airbnb in Germantown was the best decision we could have ever made. There was one table available outside on their patio and another table free right below on their grass area. Inside the place was fairly steady for a Thursday morning. The woman behind the counter soon realized we had never been here before after we looked at her with blank stares as if she was going to have all the answer for us, well she did. She was extremely helpful in assisting us with our choices. I ordered a coffee with a splash of almond milk and my boyfriend ordered an iced coffee but was fascinated by this coffee soda idea. The woman behind the counter offered to give him a sample, which was super nice of her and very very much appreciated. I think the coffee soda was the highlight of his day, he was blown away. He said it tasted like coffee with an orange kick, plus the carbonation, totally cool and the woman informed us they were working on bottling the product, how awesome is that? We decided to sit outside and it was the most enjoyable morning I tell ya. Friendly people all around, you can bring dogs outside with you, just an awesome way to start the day. My coffee was served in a carafe with a glass cup on the side, which was odd to me at first because I really like drinking coffee out of mugs but it worked. Coffee and food is good but the service is terrible. I've ordered the egg sandwich and potato bowl before and both took 45 mins to come out. In one instance, several main ingredients were not available but not disclosed until after ordering. How do you order a potato bowl and you don't have any potatoes and recommend filling it with arugula but still charge the same price and not offer any reimbursement? Another table went through the same thing after waiting for their food for 30 mins which is extremely unacceptable. If Steadfast fixed those things and coached their staff more, this place could easily be a 4-5 star place. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I wish I had seen a more honest pov before I came here. $20 for a slice of cheap cold "toasted" white bread with a tiny bit of avocado on it (which I only ate bc I didn't want to waste my money) and a latte that was literally 95% milk. Like actually tasted like straight up milk. Took 10 min to make that latte and it's not even busy, very surprised. Would recommend going elsewhere read more

Perfect place for a unique breakfast! I had the avocado toast with an egg on top. I would say it was a little pricey, but very satisfying. My sister had the pear open face sandwich and loved it. She had iced coffee and said it was great and was not expensive. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very friendly it's just a perfect little breakfast place. They also serve beer. Small line on a Sunday morning in this sleek shop with white walls and polished wood furniture. Considering this is the first time I've encountered the drink, decided on the "Matchless Coffee Soda" ($5). Not sure what the "matchless" part entailed, but not curious enough to ask. First sip is surprising, and gets easier to drink as it goes along. Strong and already sweetened, an interesting drink that's exactly what it's called. The lemon zest inside is a nice touch. Was in the mood for a small snack, but didn't like the pastries available. For the price, I don't think it's something I would have often. Went in this morning for some coffees and a breakfast burrito. We waited for the breakfast burrito for 45 minutes, then finally went up and asked if maybe the ticket got lost. We were told that it was coming, but there were still several orders in front of us. We couldn't wait any longer so cancelled the order. There were at least 8 people working in there and it wasn't terribly busy so very confused how and why it would take so long. Most of the staff was sort of standing around chatting.. Nashville coffee game is so strong. For a town this size, there are a multitude of places to go to get coffee prepared by people who care about coffee. If you want your coffee in a lot of sizes and flavors or if the time it takes to really do a pour over irritate you, maybe pass this place over. But for the people in the world who love coffee the way other people love wine, craft beers, and anime, this place is a gem. Location: Germantown. So quiet but still vibrant. Germantown is charming and there is always plenty of parking. Coffee: at steadfast they like to let their espresso rest. This process seems to mellow the espresso really nicely. They also roast their own beans, which ensures regularity in each cup. You will not find a plethora of flavors, but for most purists, coffee with flavor is like ketchup on a filet. They expect the flavor and roast of the bean to shine, and it really does. If, however, you like a little sweetness, the brûléed latte is really exceptional. Food: the food is beyond the humdrum regulars found in most cafés. The breakfast sandwich (brioche, pickled onions, grainy mustard, and poached eggs) is a perfect flavor balance. If you are short on time, you will find pastries that can be easily taken to go. Parking- there is a small lot in front and free street parking. Get something done- free wifi. Just ask for the password. Most of the tables have an outlet, so bring your computer and work for a minute. Dogs- plenty of outdoor seating; perfect for bringing your dog along. They don't have normal flavors to add like vanilla, caramel. They only have butterscotch. To add sweetness you only get simple syrup. The froth of the cappuccino was really well done! read more
