STCU is fantastic. Their customer service is excellent. They make me feel welcome every time I stop by. Last time I need a document notarized, they took care of me in 2 minutes. So friendly. STCU's rates on loans are great. They also do not hit their customers with frequently with fees like a few national banks I know. Their only drawback is their website interface for managing my accounts. The web interface is as good as most banks, no where close to a bank like USAA. I highly recommend STCU if you are looking for a local bank or credit union with good rates that you can trust. read more

Wow talk about a rapid decline of what used to be an exceptional bank. 30 years I've banked with them. I do love their mobile banking and their online banking. That is a fabulous feature. But ever since moving our mortgage account to them in October 2021 we have had nonstop issues with all of our accounts. I came into a branch in January and set up auto pay all three loans accounts. Six months later I've been to the branch 3 times because the auto pay is pulling more than what I owe on my accounts and they can't seem to figure it out. Two managers have dealt with it and still don't have it right. Every time I call in to Customer Service it's a brand new person with whom I know more information about products and services than they do. The customer service teams seem to be unknowledgeable and ever changing. We are about ready to leave Stcu for a different bank because their service and knowledge has gone so far down the tubes it's about to be irreconcilable. read more

Please do not consider using STCU for anything. They jerked us around for nearly 4 months and cost us thousands of dollars. They would not call, text, or email us for weeks at a time and when they did, it was to put us off for a little longer. They frequently break their online banking web interface! Honestly for everything else they are just fine. I like the service and people, but why do they have to roll out a new web interface to their online banking and break things that used to work? All I wanted to do was cancel a single payment in a series of automatic payments. I did that just last year and it worked fine. Now it doesn't! So I had to cancel the whole series! stupid! This same thing happened a few years ago (can't remember exactly how long) when they changed online banking back then. Everything is always working fine and then they try to improve(?) it. Except, the new systems always break something that already works. And I son'r see any real value to their changes. Maybe they are bored in the IT department and need something to do so they change it? I wish they were a little more professional than this when it comes to updating this online banking. Very very frustrating. P.S. I'm not from San Francisco, I'm from Spokane. not sure why they put that in there. read more

It would be a lit easier if you were open until 6 pm, I also just got turned away for the fact they can't simply grab one of the ink wells for a finger print to give you through the drive through like they do with pens when the lobby is closed, I along with quite a few others have to be to work by 9 am and don't get off until 5:30 or later, as said before at the very least it would be considerate to have the lobby open until 6 pm or not be fairly dull and unable to offer a small ink well for a finger print read more

The single worst refinance experience i have ever had. We own several investment homes and have been through this process many times. 15 weeks to fund our loan. The most amazing financial institution!! For many reasons I have believed this and have been banking with STCU for many years but my recent experience.... well it made us family. I recently got up enough courage to go into a branch to deposit my mom's life insurance check. When I arrived, all I could do was cry, I was unable to choke out words. The teller was kind and patient and she did all the talking. As if that level of care wasn't enough, over the weekend I received a heartfelt sympathy card signed by all in the branch. NOT hometown helpful service, but poor serivce. I have bank with them 15 years, paid off a mortage and auto loan with them,, have credit card with them and safey deposit box everthing paid on time, yet get I get poor service, I had call the area manager to get the okay to pay my safety depoit box a head 2 years. Their tellers refuse to give my last 10 charges on my credit card. You have wait on the phone almost an hour to speak to someone. Some of their tellers will allow you to pay your oustanding authorizes on your credit card saving you another trip, other teller at STCU wont let you pay them very incosistant service levels. Your credit card must be paid to exacty amount or they wont accept it if you want to pay over or round up your payment it wont be accepted . I have never had bank or credit union make it this diffcult to give them money or pay my bills. Instead of trying service the member they go our their want to make it diffcult to pay your bills or get infomation to speak to someone on the phone. The teller are smart asses if you understand why they are going out of their way to make thing diffcult . I dont expect to recieve smart asses comment from a teller after giving him $2700 payment, its almost like the teller does not want to work or whas offended he had to work read more

As far as STCU goes I have found that they are more just incompetent in maintaining their ATM machines at their branch locations like the one connected to their buildings. At STCU's south hill branch on 29th, the ATM is so consistently malfunctioning that I just don't go there anymore. Like 6 out of 10 times it didn't work. I feel like a 10% fail ratio on an ATM is about time to completely replace it. Yet I mention it and all they say is, I'm sorry for the inconvenience sir, it's another company that maintains those.... What? Then maybe contract a more competent company. Worse than this though, the online banking program requires you answer all of your security questions EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU LOG IN! So if u need to quickly do online banking ur just plain S.O.L. No ifs ands or buts about it. This is a "B" rated company at best. I'd rather pay for a bank that is at least reliable. Over the years, STCU has changed from a credit union to essentially a retail bank with a kindergarten color scheme. I've tried on several occasions to work with the bank to get real estate financing products that reflect what banking practices are happening in the real world outside Spokane, but continue to get stonewalled and treated like a crazy person. STCU personifies the ignore-the-real-world mind set in Spokane and ignores banking principles common to local banking oriented institutions in the rest of the country. For instance, I was told that investment property can't be valued based on cash flow but rather on what other properties happen to be selling for. In my case, I had a cash cow, but was told that cash flow had ZERO weight on determining the asset's value...a circle of mediocrity prevalent in Spokane. I've lived in small towns throughout the country and never been as continually blocked as by STCU's staff. I wanted to transfer $100K+ from my personal banking accounts at a large national bank in order to support a "local" bank, but was told that my 2 year old phone was too old for their Android banking app. That coupled with the fact that their underwriters are not practicing traditional local lending origination but rather straight-forward origination packaging to "agency" paper like the rest of retail banks, and I realized there was no longer a reason to bank with them. I regret that my current set of mortgages are with them. But I can assure you that I won't do any further banking or real estate financing with them. This is a retail bank for a town full of losers who are charmed by adolescent colors and pretend banking. read more

We bought a new car in Aug/Sept and have had a nightmare experience with their insurance provider. We have provided proof of insurance on the car by email, by fax, in person, from our Insurance Agent over eight times and we still get registered threatening letters. We are now looking for a new place to refinance the loan and we will never finance/refinance with them again. read more

Seriously so upset with this company. I booked a plane ticket with Hopper back in may and ended up canceling it because COVID (should have read the reviews on hopper before I booked the ticket). I got multiple automated emails from Hopper saying they would issue me a refund or flight miles but neither happened. I couldn't find a phone number for them and after googling a bit I found out that I am not the only one this has happened to during the pandemic and that many people were being scammed out of their money. So I called STCU and they issue me a refund back in august. Fast forward to Monday and I look at my account it's almost -$400. After canceling my card (thinking someone stole my card info) and checking my mail I find out they decided to go back and deny the fraud charge. I emailed back and forth with a card services person after calling STCU multiple times and emailing this Kennedy lady proof of the emails that hopper sent me after I already had sent them months ago and she then says that yes an error did occur and I would be reimbursed. I told her how I was very upset since now I have late fees for my bills because of this and that I was worried that this would happen again. She then sent me a rude email back saying that it was a non refundable ticket (even though my emails say I was going to get refunded) and that they (STCU) are actually taking a lose for this. I've received personal loans through STCU, have a credit card through them, and was planning on getting a house loan through them when the time came but because of this whole situation I am opening a new account with a different bank that has actually treated me so well already. I should've read the Yelp reviews for STCU before I got an account because obviously I'm not the only one that has had an issue with the way STCU treats their members especially with fraudulent claims. This review is for the STCU Pasco branch. My wife and I tried to move two business accounts from a national bank to STCU. The STCU staff was exceptionally friendly and professional during the setup process, but it quickly became clear they didn't correctly set up the accounts. First, it took months for checks to arrive, and when the checks finally arrived, they were wrong. Another set of checks arrived soon after, and they were wrong, too. I called STCU's checks vendor. The vendor explained it was following information provided by the branch. I told the branch about this, and they explained that the vendor is notorious for these types of errors and that it had provided accurate information. Needless to say, credit union members shouldn't have to babysit check ordering. Second, we were charged a $5/mo. "change of address" fee for no apparent reason. The branch erased the fees but was unable to explain why the fees were charged. After all the incompetence (with a smile), we pulled our accounts and money out of STCU. Despite the friendly staff, we cannot recommend STCU. read more

This is the worst excuse for a business! I made my final car payment in February and did not receive my title to my car until September! I had to spend a total of 9 hours on the phone over seven months getting my title. NO ONE was helpful! They all just passed the buck, said they were going to do something and never did. I finally had to do everything myself. By the time I got my title, my car was almost a year older and had about 10K miles more on it so obviously when I went to sell it, I had to take about $600 off the original asking price. I asked the bank about compensation and Steve Patterson the manager of the titling department basically told me to go screw myself. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CREDIT UNION. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST AND I HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS TRYING TO GET MY TITLE BACK AFTER THEY LOST IT. read more

WORST Credit Union Policies and people!! I moved to Idaho and wanted to bring my money local. I have always been a member of a credit union since working for one for 3 years, so needless to say, I KNOW BANKING. I attempted to open a membership only to be turned away. They said that my Chex Systems score was too low for their institution. Chex Systems is a system that rates how you've performed with other banks. I HAVE NEVER underperformed with banks or left a checking account high and dry. I ordered a copy of my report, it came back CLEAN AS A WHISTLE. I then took to them in person and they still turned me away at the corporate level saying the score is too low. I called CHEX and they said the credit union has their own parameters and they can make it too low if they want. So after speaking with STCU corporate and being told to PISS OFF.. I filed a complaint with the BBB for discrimination. DONT BOTHER with this Credit Union. read more

I refinanced my auto loan with STCU and it's been a nightmare ever since. I was told my loan insurance charges were calculated into my loan payments and they where not, resulting in high dollar charges every month that I was not aware of. Whinch in turn increased my loan amount and showed me as being behind on payment even though I automatically had them taken out every month. When I needed to use the insurance when laid off briefly I requested several times for them to open a claim and found out they never did after months of requests. They then took lump sums out of my checking account to put toward my loan without my knowledge due to having me listed as behind which jeopardized my home and they refused to reverse them. I asked that my loan payment be held off for two weeks due to an emergency that came up and they said ok, well they took the payment out as usual which again financially put me in jeopardy. As a single mom the way they do business is appalling. I haven't had such a poor banking experience since I left Bank of America and I regret leaving p1fcu and refinancing through STCU. read more

I have been with STCU for 20 plus years. I recommended STCU to everyone at the time the service was top notch. Years later and the organization has grown and sadly is not the same. I live in Canada and have a credit card with STCU. I send my payments monthly to their processing center in Iowa. My checks are cashed (taken out of my account) then they do not apply the funds for 3 weeks and charge me a late fee. Now I realize I am sending Canadian funds to a US bank, but it does not take 3 weeks to convert the funds. I have attempted multiple times to work with STCU to no avail. I have been asked to send the funds registered mail which is not possible as it's sent to a P.O box. I have been asked to use a local shared branch, now where is that in Alberta? If I send 2 payments at once stating which month the payment is for they are both ran through immediately. Although I pay every month STCU is now threatening me with collections. I'm believing a credit collection would be easier to deal with. The person I have been dealing with has no understanding of the situation and is 0 help. Do not deal with STCU just throw your money and dignity out the window on your own. read more

Have been with STCU for at least 10 years now and wouldn't consider any other bank or credit union for my main bank. It's too bad IRA's are only insured for $250,000 (which is pretty standard) or we'd have all our funds at this bank. Their rate are the best around on CD's and savings. . I have banked with STCU for near 20 years. I have always admired their businesslike way, without the Business-speak. it makes you feel like a special customer . But I notice a downhill slide in their customer service. First they stopped with the coffee in the lobby. Then I noticed the new breed of employee's who seem to feel that looks are more important than service. In fact, it seemed the more attractive the girl. (they hire only woman) the less work she is expected to do. I was a 5 star fan two years ago. I am a 4 star fan this year. Next year I am sure, if nothing is corrected I will be a three star fan. After than I will become a 5 star fan at another bank . Maybe they could hire a man or two ? If this was the 70's Men would picket and burn their underwear. Card Service = only woman employee's. Behind the floor, only woman employees, I would venture to guess that there are less than 3% Men working in all the branches. This is my opinion of the thinks I have seen. I still like the bank. I guess I just don't like the direction it is headed for. My opinions are only my own. But have you noticed that a very pretty girl, as she grows older and looses the bloom off her rose, still retains the attitude of the very pretty girl. Doesn't expect to work as hard as the non-pretty. Thinks there are special rules for her. Even past the time that her prettyness is long gone. Even past the time when on a scale from 1-10 she would be a 3 maybe a 4. She still retains the opinion that she is a 10 and theirfor needs only to do the work of a lesser person. Worst banking experience I have had in a very long time. Teller uniformed and highly unprofessional. I wont' be doing business with this company. I phoned STCU and talked to a manager in hopes of getting help with the situation. The manager was also uniformed (uneducated) and unprofessional; the manager put me on hold to contact someone else for the information I wanted. No help whatsoever! The situation (place) made me feel like I was being discriminated against (age), blackmailed (told if I had an account they would not require my finger print) and bullied (would not deposit the check without my finger print). All this to deposit a check (less than $10,000) into my adult son's account ..... seriously? If the credit union thinks the check may be bad (the check from a well known Insurance Company), the credit union can hold back funds until they know the check clears? The credit union took my drivers license number, and matched my signature which I was told by the credit union is all the ID needed to open an account..... but they would not deposit this check into my son's account (who has been a member for over 12-years) without my finger print. Seriously..... my son also was on the check and they did not ask him for his finger print? So they assume I (his mother) is a criminal. I think the only criminal actions in this situation is on the part of the credit union. I have never been arrested and have excellent credit; have owned real property and completed business transactions in Spokane for 25+ years. I feel totally violated by this credit union's process. We applied for a refinance and all backup paperwork turned in to Kendra. Communication has been poor since the beginning. Our house was appraised at $350,000 and we owe $208,000. We wanted to borrow against our equity to build a garage, which would up our value even more. Every time we would call and leave a message no calls were returned, or even emails. Needless to say we will never do business with STCU again. We thought since they were local they may be better to deal with NOT! The week before closing we were told that we hadn't reaffirmed our home. Upon talking to an attorney it is not a requirement......evidently it is JUST with STCU. Never Again! DONE! read more

I have never had worse customer service from the loan department in my life. I went through the entire process of getting a home line of credit from them to tell me after they dinged my credit that this was not the right loan for me. Then I went to another gal for a different loan. She was too busy to ever get back to me so I could finish the paperwork that they needed. We have been STCU members for many years. Had personal accounts as well as business accounts. The service has always been stellar and never any problems on our statements or anything. However, two recent experiences have pretty much wiped the great feeling away. We recently sold a contract we were carrying. The transaction was handled by our attorney. When I took the check to deposit in our account (the check was handwritten, but from an attorney's trust account) I was put through the third degree about where the check came from, what it was for, etc. I was even asked to bring in the paperwork that showed the proof of the transaction. Now mind you, I informed them I knew there would be a hold on the check and had no problem with that as did not intend to use the funds in the near future. I left the bank feeling like a criminal. A short time later we sold a vehicle. I had a check made out to both of us from another credit union. Again, the third degree. When I became upset I was told it was "for your protection". Again, I knew about a hold, etc. If it were not so much hassle with direct deposit and automatic payments that are established, I would change banking institutions. This makes me very sad that a great place could become to cold and uncaring that they make a member feel like the "bad guy". read more

I have been an STCU member for years and so has my son. But I was highly disappointed in the way that I was treated by the mortgage department the other day after inquiring about a loan to build a house on an empty lot that I own. Without even knowing anything about my finances, my son or what I wanted to build I was told that I would not be given a loan simply because my son (who is a licence contractor) would be building the house.There was not any inquiry to the house value that would be built or how much money I had or even how much I wanted to borrow. End of a phone conversation only. That's as far as it got. This is a very bad way to do business and not very profitable for public relations or finances. read more
