STCU customer service has taken a dive! It used to be above average, and know it's the worst. Something has changed dramatically at STCU, and I've been with them for many years. I went in with some questions and she asked how I was doing..unfortunately my wife is have some serious health I issues that I mentioned..Sara expressed her sorrow and grief..we continued on with business..A few days late, I received a get better card that was hand written with 2 gift cards from STCU..this was a awesome gesture by Sara and STCU...well appreciated and surprising...Great customer service as always by Sara and STCU..Thank you!!! read more

Horrible. In 5 years or so my debit card has been compromised 2 times somehow. And now recently my entire checking, saving, and credit accounts were compromised. STCU literally has the worst security of any finacial instution in Spokane. It's crazy. Trying to talk to or work with the "fraud' department is a waste of time, they don't do anything. I now owe money for something I had no control over, Thanks STCU! I'm closing my account and going somewhere else. Horrible, horrible place. read more

Been with STCU for 40 years. When i was younger they were awesome! No issues, no fraud, no real problems. Now after probably the 7th or 8th time of my accounts being hacked and dealing with condescending "Customer service" people....telling you every excuse in the book and will go as far as blaming you because you bought things on the internet. No issues with anything else at STCU really but the "Fraud Department" and the way you are treated. Their solution to fraud is to just get a new card and lock your old card so you have no access to any money for sometimes as long as 2 weeks. Yes, this happened to me. We could not get any money out for weeks. This just happened again to me today and the rep when on and on about how fraud happens and I will have to switch everything over if I have auto Payment. Awesome!! Just what I want to do again because you guys have the worst fraud I have ever experience in my life. I have other banks I use and not once has my other accounts or any of my credit cards been hacked. STCU.....not so much. If you want your money to be safe, secure and have full access to it avoid STCU and stick your money under the mattress because it will be much safer there. Just waiting for the generic response from STCU here. I bet it will be word for word what the response is on the other complaints and will want me to call them. I've been w/ STCU for about 6-7 years. Three times they've had a series of fraudulent charges, about $100.00 or more in total. (I've never had this with any of my other banks, maybe once, like 15 years ago and it was resolved w/in a day). I submitted a dispute for a series of fraudulent charges in mid September for a charges between May to August. This is a well known fraudulent incidence reported by many customers according to the CSR I spoke to. She knew it was from "Walmart.com" without needing to give her my information. Apparently the security breach used "Walmart.com" in their fraudulent charges. The dispute was filed around the 10th of September and the fraudulent charges dated from the end of May to August, increasingly in larger amounts. Of course, they didn't refund me the largest transaction- their excuse was that they don't credit back any fraudulent charges after 60 days. However, this charge was August 20th. They said if it's a series of charges they start with the oldest date, May, the smallest amount. I didn't appreciate being financially accountable for a wide-spread security breach of fraudulent charges - that's the banks responsibility. Also, if their policy is to not credit back any fraudulent charges after 60 days. They should have credit back the August 20th charge $42.67, rather than the May 28th one for $20.25. Their excuse was that hackers will use a series of random number until they find one that works. I believed it. But if that were completely true, it would have happened before with other bank accounts, not just from one hacker "Walmart.com" with only STCU accounts. read more

was a decent bank to do business with until they decided to change their online banking format. we have tryed multiple time gone into the bank and still unable to get into out online banking for the business. they made the passcode to loge in go from three to two for somereson lets make it less secure. well now where unable to login. apparently, they changed are passcodes without are permission. no one inside the branch has figured it out, so on top of everything its great customer service to boot........ read more

For the most part my experience with STCU has been good. However, unlike a traditional bank they do not extend a temporary credit to your checking account for a disputed transaction like a tradition bank does. It takes 10 business days for their investigation and reaching out to the company that incorrectly took a payment or if your information was stolen. Only then will they issue a temporary credit. Just something to be aware of with them. Never put your STCU checking account or debit card information online. read more

To many problems to list, non are ever the fault of STCU, they never take responsibility! One was specifically admitted fraud by the President of Commercial Loans in a situation that almost cost us the purchase of a home. Been with them for over 32 years, home loans , many, many car loans, multiple boat loans, business loans, business accounts, personal credit cards, business credit cards all of our adult kids have accounts, etc. We've paid several hundred thousands in interest to this place. We are done, we are pulling our money and going to another credit union. I gave them ample opportunity to resolve this blatantly obvious failure of their system and communication process. Was told originally by Amanda the supervisor I was working with on a couple of different phone calls that it was a failure with in their process and system and she was confident it could get resolved to both of our satisfaction. She was working with her supervisor would get back to me today. Only to come back today and was told it was all our fault and there was nothing they were going to do!! Shame on us for not leaving sooner but with several accounts, business accounts, loans etc it is a process and due to some serious medical conditions deeming me now disabled switching banks was not top priority! IT IS NOW!!! We are already in the process of setting up another account and options for the one loan I still have there!! read more

I've been with STCU for almost 2 decades and have no regrets. Never had any issues and they are always polite.

I would strongly recommend going with virtually any other institution for your financial needs. I did my mortgage through STCU in 2021 and their negligence has been astounding. - Early on they failed to make payments to my homeowner's insurance company which didn't come to light until the insurance company reached out. - Then, for an entire year, STCU failed to designate money from my payments to my escrow account to cover property taxes and insurance. At the end of the year they called to notify me of the issue and that my monthly payments would have to increase to cover their mistake. - For well over a year they failed to send me any kind of mortgage statement and never could figure out why their system wasn't generating one. They now send a paper statement. - Earlier this year I received a call from them saying I was late on my mortgage payment which didn't make sense seeing as how it's been on monthly autopay from the beginning with no issue. They blamed the other financial institution for not sending the money. In reality, STCU has no clue how their system actually works. Because the autopay was set up through STCU, they have to initiate the transfer by sending the request for funds. After half a dozen phone calls someone finally looked back and saw that STCU had a system outage that day so payments weren't processed. When I asked the representative why they didn't send any kind of notice she said, "We didn't want to deal with customers calling." Seriously? So instead they said nothing about it and took advantage of the opportunity to charge me (and I'm sure countless other customers whose payments weren't processed) with a late payment fee. The woman then had the audacity to suggest that I pay closer attention to my finances. She said I should have opted in to notifications about my account but when I asked her if it would have notified me that the payment didn't process on account of their outage she said no. For some reason STCU has no problem delivering marketing emails to your inbox. You can't get your statements or important notifications about your account but marketing emails? No problem. If you're looking for a financial institution that fails at the most basic functions of banking or for one you have to babysit to make sure they're not making repeated mistakes with your account, STCU is for you! I closed my checking and savings accounts shortly after. read more

If your husband OR wife has an acct. at STCU and he/she wants to bring their spouse's accts. over from the bank that they are with, to give STCU more business , they will tell you NO . This just happened to my sister. Guess they don't need more business. Its their loss, Right? Yup.  Thats OK though. Pluses-30 years a member. Great experience with online banking, great front desk service, easy deposits and withdrawals. Minus-twice we have tried to get a small business loan and rejected. We had no debt, excellent credit score, never late on a credit card payments. Requested loan was 1/20 of our total assets. Luckily we found a local bank to accommodate which we will use if needed again. read more

I just moved to Spokane, WA. and decided to try STCU. It is impossible to link an STCU account to another online account at another institution. Using PLAID, I tried to link my STCU checking account to several other online institutions to no avail. If linking your online accounts is important to you, you may want to pass on STCU and look elsewhere. read more

I've been a member of STCU for many years and they can be helpful but other times downright rude. Problem is that if you live in a small town where everyone knows everyone, you can tell they are talking about you and your finances to each other, especially when 3 or 4 tellers show up at the drivethrough window to watch the transactions. I don't appreciate the fact that they don't honor deposits made say day as a transaction came through. You will always get an OD anyway. I have tried to leave my deposit in the night drop before hoping it would clear before the incoming transaction did. (I know I should have been more careful with my account but there are times when it just works out that way). They wouldn't honor the night drop deposit as funds to clear any transaction with insuficient funds same day the funds to cover it were in. They ALWAYS issue an OD same day funds to cover the transaction. I am in the process now of finding a new bank where none of the employees know me and are not connected to my small home town. I was also scammed out of $900 when I called a ligitimate customer support # online. Some hacker must have gotten that # and I really believed I was talking with the valid customer support. They convinced me I needed to pay $900 as my computer was hacked and they would make sure it would never happen again. Sure....I was hacked, but by the scammer (a bogus company called "Asoftech Solutions LLC, phone # 1-956-462-0539.) who hacked the Epson Support web site #. The hacker, (who hacked the Epson support #) hacked my harddrive, with my permission and sent me a contract for lifetime virus protection to sign. Again, believing I was actually speaking with an Epson support team I signed the contract. Because of the signing STCU would not refund the money. Maybe they had the right not to but shouldn't they have investigated this scammer and maybe refer me to some agency that could have helped prosecute the scammer and refund me my money. I no longer trust anyone online with any request as I should have known before all this. Believe me....NEVER AGAIN!!. I just now believe I need to start over fresh with a bank not associated with same small town. That will happen soon. In progress now to do that. read more

Garbage bank, nothing but issues since they changed from Coulee Damn Credit Union. It's 6:20 AM and my direct deposit paycheck is still not available this happens every time I get paid I never know when my money is going to show up they have somehow flagged a thrift books bookstore as online gambling and I can no longer use my card there even after calling and asking them to fix this they give you privilege paid but it's actually just overdraft fees 29 dollars for each one privilege pay would be they pay it as a privilege of being a member and I am not charged several times my daughters card has been frozen when she leaves the state even though she has told them that she's going to be leaving just a total shit show at this bank they've shortened the hours customer service I really miss Coulee dam credit union read more

Very frustrated with the HELOC process. buying our home 3 years ago (NOT through STCU) was by far an easier, quicker and more satisfying process than trying to get to the signing for our HELOC. There is apparently no hold ups and we had our house appraised and that was returned within the week (last month 4/12) and we kept getting told that we are approved, everything is in, It has just been a VERY slow process and we were previously told (3 to 5 business days) but I guess I am not a priority and they are short staffed and have a lot of applications so we need to just sit and wait...... May 15 will be 60 days from our application. i e-mailed STCU to express my frustrations to be told that they have the window of 30 - 60 days to get it done. I honestly believed the loan officer when she initially said it should be all ready for signing within the 3 - 5 business days, I had people set up to help us build a fence to protect the grandkids from the busy street but we missed that opportunity because the 3 to 5 business days has turned into 2 - 3 weeks and I have no faith that they have any intent of trying to hurry ANYTHING. I wish I would have called around more to see if other banks maybe prioritized getting applications in and done and that they had the staff to do the job and that cared about the client. To top it off, due to unforeseen circumstances, I believed I would have been funded the line of credit so I had to use my mortgage money to take care of a medical situation so now I am also going to show as 1 month late on my mortgage payment. Bottom line, I guess if you go through STCU plan for the full 2 months before you will get access to your home equity line of credit. :( read more

First time reviewer ever. This place is horrible!!!!!! Live chat never works or gets cut off. We work so so holding for 35-45 mins., is impossible. JUST TRYING TO PAY OFF LOAN!!! They make it impossible!!! I can't go in because I moved and I can't change my address because I can't get through!!! Will NEVER use them again! This credit union recently purchased my car loan from another bank. Over the life of the loan I have never been late on payments and have always paid more than the minimum. Since they acquired my loan I started receiving late notifications and late fees. This credit union doesn't send monthly invoices and expects prompt payments. They have not refund any late fees and refuse to acknowledge that these fees resulted from their "crooked" way of doing things. I will pay this loan in full next month and never do business with them again. I suggest you do the same! read more

Due to an oversight we were 4 days late getting insurance on our travel trailer that we financed through STCU. They are now charging us $800 for one month of insurance premium, for the MONTH OF MAY! This is unreasonable, when we called for resolution we were met on the phone by a rude gal from Texas who had no compassion and wasn't willing to come to a reasonable agreement. "No you were 4 days late, you will be charged the $800 fee". Saddening and ridiculous that this is how they treat their customer. read more

Aside from daily banking, (which I find perfectly pleasant), other service departments, such as loan processing, has outstanding, personable, and accommodating staff. Well - my husband and I have banked with this organization for many, many years. Car loans, camper loans and now a boat loan. Because our insurance company can't meet a reduced deductible of $1000 versus $2000 we now have to look for another insurance company or we were threatened with STCU's forced insurance. While I understand they want to protect their interests, no thought is given to the position that their member are being put in or the additional cost they will have to incur to meet their rule. Great time to put more stress on their members - and the letter which threatens a potential forced insurance at the price tag of $9326/YR is stressful and smacks of 3rd rate collection company tactics. I guess it's time to find a new credit union. read more

I have always used credit unions for banking so when I was looking to move to a new credit union for convenience I went online and using the stcu chat function explained what I was looking for in accounts. The representative explained the options which matched what I was looking form. I stopped in to the local stcu close to my job to start the process. When I walked in I was greeted and asked what I needed. The person said I cant help you with anything other than a checking account. I explained the accounts I was looking for and was told no you cant do it that way. After explaining that I had talked with their online rep and had been told i could open a checking and credit account the person went to get the manager. The manager said no we cant do that and sent the person back to me. I then asked a clarifying question which the person then went back to the manager. The manager walked over and told me no you cant open a credit card account that way. Just do a debit account. I again explained what I was looking for, why and that the online rep had told me I could. I have a similar structure at my credit union. I again explained what I was looking for and why. The manager told me to just do a debit card account because it was easier for them. I politely explained again why I didnt want to do it that way. The manager finally acknowledged that I could set things up the way I wanted but I should not because it was easier for them if I did a checking and debit account. Besides debit cards are more secure than credit according to the manager. I finally gave up and walked out after explaining the difference between an authorized user and a cosigner on an account to the bank manager. If you want a debit and checking account this place might be fine. If you have multiple accounts, a stellar credit rating and know what you need to manage your accounts this probably isn't the place. They don't appear to know anything beyond checking account. read more

They are incompetent. They don't know what they are doing. Every time I called/emailed them, I got a different answer. One of represents I chat with did not even apologize about a mistake they made, and every time I said something, she challenged me without knowing how we manage our money. Her attitude toward her customers is inappropriate and not acceptable. I hope we finish our loan with this bank. We will never go back to them. read more

You don't have to be a teacher to use STCU. They do offer a great savings account here with 5.00% interest on your first 500 dollars. An additional bonus is the fact that, once a member, you can bank at any credit union. You can even bank at 7-11. The downside is the 25 dollar membership fee. read more

I can't believe I'm writing a review for my credit union! But I have to, my experience has been soooo good. As my husband and I took steps to buy a home, we found working with Wells Fargo pushy, not very responsive and a bit over selling on services we have no interest in... the I thought, I'll see what STCU can do - and boy have we been delighted. Great mortgage rates, and their real estate loan department has been absolutely terrific. I liked that they treated us like people vs. numbers on an application form. Becky and her team have been personable and helpful despite the heavy loan volume. I'm totally sold on keeping my business local, and switching more to my local credit union is part of that plan. read more
