Second time I have stayed in Lewes and the first time here. Coming off season, it was nice to be…read moreable to book a room for a single night - in this case a Sunday night. I got there around 3:30 PM and there was no one there to help us check in. However, on the way I was told everything I needed to know to get in through the main door and into the room. There is a small private lot to park in plus the street is free for parking next to the building. I do not know if that becomes an issue in peak season but at least it wasn't a worry for now. The common area is super nice. It feels like being home. There was white and red wine out and soft drinks in the common fridge as well. The room itself was surprisingly large and comfortable. Everything was in place for a great stay - ample towels in the bathroom, instructions for everything including where to place used glasses and so on. Waking up breakfast was being made for any guests that wanted it. Banana pancakes with bacon and some grapefruit. It was nice to smell those smells before coming down to experience it! The only frustrating part was the initial booking. Since the single night could not be reserved online I needed to call. I was never able to call and get a person immediately. I always needed to leave a voicemail and wait for them to get back to me. Though I cannot say it was a big deal, it still does make for a bit of a hitch if you are trying to make last minute plans.

The room was always serviced when we returned in the afternoon. The breakfasts were so good and the chef, Marie, is delightful. The wine and snacks in the afternoon were a pleasant way to start the evening. Bottled water, sodas and chips, etc., were always available and complimentary. The inn is walking distance to some great restaurants. We've stayed in a lot of places in the area and this was the best by far.

My first time ever staying in a Bed and Breakfast and my experience was wonderful. I was a tad…read morenervous because I didn't know how these types of hotels worked. I would definitely stay here again! When we arrived, we had to call for them to greet us in the drive way. Which was also our parking. I wore my mask at this time because I wasn't sure on policy and they put theirs on because I had mine on. (I guess NJ Iifted the mask mandate, but they respected me wearing mine. Which I thought was fantastic). We were then given a tour of the house and given the rules. They never bothered us, which I really appreciated. If we did need anything, all we had to do was text and/or call and they responded quickly. This place was very beautiful and welcoming. I just loved looking around and exploring. They have a super cute snack table with crackers, candy, and prepackaged granola bars/baked goods. They also had coffee and tea available in the dining room for most of the day. A communal mini fridge and microwave were provided for guests that were clean and well maintained. There are plenty of places to park as well if needed. And despite other people staying in separate rooms in this home, I still felt like I had my own space. Never once did I think it was too loud with other guests. There was also bikes, games, books and movies provided for guests to use and unfortunately the jacuzzi was still closed due to covid. We stayed in the Walt Whitman room. Located on the second floor. It was very small, but cozy. We had to make use of the dresser and closet for our clothes and things because we had to slide our luggage under the bed. Which wasn't a huge deal. There is a sink in the room which was strangely useful. The bed was very clean and comfortable. It had coverings on the mattress to keep it free of bugs and allergens. (I'm always checking for bed bugs. Had a bad experience once.) It was a double bed, but my partner and I had no issues. There is also some air conditioning and a ceiling fan and never got too warm. Off the room was this fantastic deck that we had our breakfast every morning and enjoyed our evenings on, settling down before bed. The bathroom is across the hall and it is a private bathroom. You could lock it and they provided a key. The bathroom was quite large with a beautiful claw foot tub. The shower was very powerful with the pressure and it was hard to not get the floor wet. I felt bad because of the gorgeous hard wood floors. Breakfast was absolutely INCREDIBLE everyday. I was always looking forward to what they whipped up for the morning. Now with covid, it was still all takeout. Which I didn't mind because I'm not a social butterfly and enjoyed the privacy. They should keep this option. But the dishes ranged from freshly made breakfast sandwiches and burritos to stuffed French toast. It was all delicious! Orange juice, fruit cups, and some sort of soft, warm, and luscious pastry was also included. Again, I would 100% stay here again. Natalie and Todd were excellent hosts and super friendly. Outstanding breakfast and the location and price and unbeatable.

We also enjoy the lovely drive to get there. My children took me there for Mother's Day this year and we had the best time sharing appetizers and wine. My daughter and I visited a few weeks ago and apparently they have a new chef. I'm sure the menu is amazing if you are having dinner at the inn. However, their new shareable menu is anything but shareable!! Roasted carrots, asparagus, and tomato salad aren't exactly sharing friendly. We miss the large charcuterie board they used to have, the hummus platter, and the artichoke dip. Wonderful to share with a bottle of wine or two. Please bring back the old tasting menu, it was perfect!

Grace winery also offers a selection of small plates, shareables, and other quality food items from their kitchen - and there are a number of excellent options. Of note are the burgers, the lobster sliders, the cheesesteak sliders, and the shrimp tacos.
