I spent time researching other boot…read morecamps but decided to go with Global Knowledge due to the rave reviews from someone that I knew that took it, plus their online reviews seemed promising. The location is attached to Ballston Mall. You can park in the garage and walk into the building from the garage, or go directly through the mall. The training facility is on the 10th floor. The front desk coordinators are super nice and friendly. There's unlimited water, coffee, tea, juice, and sodas to drink. If you're taking an all day boot camp, they drop off snacks around 3-4pm (chips and trail mix). There's also a kitchen (complete with toasters and microwaves) and a lounge to eat your lunch in. Global Knowledge is pricey, but they offer a guaranteed pass rate for your certifications (I can attest since I passed my PMP certification). You should sign up for the "verified" classes to avoid any last minute cancellations.

A few days before the class was set to begin, I received the following email: "Greetings, There has been a change in location to your upcoming Global Knowledge event. Please review changes below. To confirm you have received this change simply reply to this e-mail. If you have questions regarding this change please contact Global Knowledge customer service at 1-800-268-7737. OLD LOCATION: GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE TRAINING CENTER NEW LOCATION: MICROTEK DC ( http://www.mclabs.com/facilities/microtek-washington-dc.aspx for directions) A hotel change is suggested." This last minute change left me scrambling to find new accommodations and transportation. After contacting customer service, I was not provided with any explaination of why the course location was changed, only that the new location was in DC. I later learned that the course was moved at the last minute because Global Knowledge had overbooked its training center. Two thumbs down.

I had to save my 500th review for a special place - that place is The Leadership Institute…read more I haven't taken classes at this headquarter, but will because I got a scholarship, so there will be an updated review at a later date. The Leadership Institute is a Conservative political policy school that teachers Conservatives the ins and out of running for office, building campaigns, how to get grass roots activists, public speaking and a multitude of other courses. I've purchased and attended the following courses: Travel-Fundraising Workshop - 9/23/11, 5-9 PM @ The Venetian ($10) Travel-Campaign Management School- 9/24-25/11, 8-5 PM @ The Venetian ($50) Lunch and beverages were included in the purchase price (most of these classes and their amenities are partially or totally underwritten by financial contributors.) I have to say, that $60 was by far, the most well spent money. The amount of work, presentation and the quality of the speakers and teachers was top notch. It was an incredible 3 days - I came out with a notebook full of useful notes. Travel-Fundraising Workshop - 9/23/11 We were given a crash course in: -Finance Committees -Finance Plan and Budgeting -Personal Solicitation -Fundraising Events The teachers are people who are at the top of their game in their field - and it shows. There were a couple group projects, dealing with a hypothetical campaign, that we had to present in front of the crowd. You're an active participant in the class, not a casual observer - and I like that. Travel-Campaign Management School- 9/24-25/11 We were given a two day crash course in: -Campaign Structure -Volunteers -Strategic Research -Voter Identification and Targeting -Building Coalitions -Building a Message -Public Relations and Earned Media -Precinct Organizations -Door to Door campaigning - Phone Banking -Public Speaking We continued with our hypothetical campaign for fictitious candidates that we had begun the prior day. We learned about how to get people together for campaigns, how much going rates were, what doesn't work, what the Left does that the Conservatives should utilize, etc. We had actual elected officials make guest appearances and speak to us. It was a real eye opener. We continued putting the info we learned into practice during our group projects. All of the participants (mostly people who are running for local or state level offices - I was the only college student at these events) were fighting hard during our presentations because two people were going to get scholarships to go to headquarters to take more schooling (I was one of the winners!) I learned a ton over the weekend and have continued to learn more to put into practice via their free online courses. Any business person or future elected official (particularly conservatives) should take as many courses as they possibly can from The Leadership Institute - they are invaluable.

The instructors for the APS swim classes really hit or miss compared to the county classes. We loved the first lady instructor, she always started classes on time and ended on time, knew what she wanted to do in the class, and had her songs with swimming movements ready. Last 2 sessions were with a gentleman instructor (who says he's been teaching swimming at APS for 15+ years) as the main instructor and recently he's been training this other lady and it's been so bad: 1. classes don't start on time half the time (one time started going around checking the kids in at the time class was supposed to start and that took 10 minutes, another time it's already time to start the class but instructor was standing around chatting for 5 minutes) and sometimes runs out of things to do class ended 5 min early 2. runs out of things to do in the class or don't know what songs to sing as we practice swimming movements and they start singing random songs or ask all the parents what song would you like to sing !!?? Could you do a little bit of prep beforehand or bring a cheatsheet into the pool so you know what to do next. Maybe it's the toddler class that's bad because kids are young... won't be doing the toddler class again here unless we get the first instructor back. Will wait for the class for older kids or go to county classes.

I took his "treading water" clinic and in 10 minutes, I was treading water effortlessly; something I've struggled doing for years and even after taking numerous lessons with private instructors (not affiliated with SwimBox). He's taught for 22+ years! and it shows. He simply knows how to coach all the minute details in swimming mechanics. I've always 'm someone with a high muscle to fat ratio and have ALWAYS sank like a rock. He taught me 3 styles to use my hands to tread and 4 styles using my feet. He demonstrated things in the water (such as corkscrews) that I've never seen/heard of before. He's very friendly and personable as well. I've taken the swim analysis and it was super helpful/beneficial. Looking forward to signing up for more classes! Highly recommend!

Basically, vacation-style swimming where you jump off a boat, tread for a bit, and swim back to the boat. I asked if I could learn this at SwimBox. I was told I could. If they don't teach this, they should have said so. Instead, I took 10 classes and was never taught either of these things. The instructor, as usual, wasted time in the beginning treating me like I'm afraid of water. I can already swim underwater and on my back (not expertly, of course). Instructors should start off with new swimmers by allowing them to show what they can already do vs. starting them with blowing bubbles and floating. At SwimBox, they have no incentive to move you along quickly since dragging out the lessons equals more classes, which equals more money for them. I gave the instructor the benefit of the doubt that she was teaching me some basic things I needed to know. However, as the classes went along, I noticed we were headed towards what I feared -- teaching me freestyle swimming and perfecting my form. This IS NOT what I asked to learn! I don't plan to swim laps or join the Olympics. When I clarified again that I wanted to learn to swim with my head above water, she dismissed that type of swimming as not real swimming. Well, that's how people swim socially and that's what I asked, upfront, to learn. Finally, I was lied to when I was told we would work on treading water, which is the MAIN THING that I wanted to learn. The pools are, obviously, not deep, but I was duped into believing I would still be taught. Each time I take swim lessons, they teach what they want to teach. I will just have to get a friend to teach me because formal instructors are apparently hard wired to teach every new swimmer freestyle. I wasted my money.
