Potsdamer Platz Arkaden in my opinion really is a big down compared to the other nearby mall, as despite being a decent size over three floors, I find the overall selection of stores to be a little restrictive, for example there isn't even a Starbucks here, albeit that is the same with the Mall of Berlin, and there is a Starbucks on the street leading up to the mall and many others in the Postdamer Platz area so perhaps one right inside, in the heart of the mall, as they have in Alexa for example isn't needed here. There are a few large flagship shops such as H and M, Mango and Wohrl and as I recall Rewe and O2 have a branch here, but overall the selection if restrictive and with a lack of maps around the mall, the layout is also something I found to be confusing, I ended up going up and down every floor looking for a Starbucks only to find out, it is located just outside opposite Pizza Hut and Rewe which was frustrating, there also was a lack of staff and help desks too. In my opinion, Potsdamer Platz Arkaden will always come second to the Mall of Berlin mainly down to it being insuperior in near enough every way, being smaller, less modern and having a more confusing layout with less people to ask for help/maps etc, sadly deserving a single one star rating.

Want to kill time before dinner?…read more Literally a 2 minute walk from the moment you step out of Potsdamer Platz station, Arkaden is a very nice shopping complex with many stores spread over three floors. We easily wasted an hour or so window shopping here. All that walking in Berlin convinced my friend she needed a new pair of sneakers to take back home to the US. She didn't find it here, but she was directed by the helpful staff to another mall. You won't go hungry here as the food options range from full service restaurants to small cafes where you can take a short break. Caffe e Gelato was busy as a bee: the ice cream line moved quickly and I guess in Berlin, even when it's raining, its always ice cream time!

Had to stay in the street and wait before they let me in....security guy barked at me when i bite my sandwich in the hallway and pointed to some card that apparently said "no food!" Ok but the girl next to me ate her food and had no problem))) never mind I thought...luxury stores in Berlin have strict policies, behave yourself))) so 10 minutes later i could finally enter the perfume department. I searched for a specific perfume, named it 5-6 times to the assistant but he kept rolling his eyes as if i just made it up and know nothing of niche perfume brands...))) had to google it and show the picture to prove that the perfume exists! This very fact kind of perplexed him)) Bottom line: i didnt feel comfortable at all, the experience is not worth it. Gallerie la fayette next door is better. PS: and no the selection of perfumes did not impress me at all. Online retailers from Munich and Hamburg offer a much more interesting selection.

Date of visit: May 31, 2024…read more My husband is very picky, which can make traveling to foreign countries interesting when it comes time to eat! After our initial plans for dinner fell through, we came upon Frittenwerk. I certainly appreciated the kiosks out front to let me know what they have without having to try and decipher the menu with my limited German. I had been meaning to try a currywurst and figured this was as good a time as any to give it a whirl while my husband went with chicken sticks and fries. My currywurst was excellent, I would definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't had one yet. The fries were decent but the chicken sticks were pretty bland and would be a terrible meal without some sort of dipping sauce. Loved the ordering where they assign you a name instead of you entering one for them to butcher and staff was very friendly, too!

I tried the fries that had some aioli, cilantro and pomegranate seeds. It was delicious but half way through the dish I was tired of fries, so I would say they are better as a shared snack than as main meal. The churros were surprisingly good for Germany and they came with a dipping dark chocolate to sweeten the deal. Will go back whenever craving some not-so healthy snacks for sure!

I love Bikini Berlin and have done for years, so on a recent trip to Berlin I swung by and was delighted to see that they're keeping up with trends by introducing a food hall. Now, don't get too excited - as food halls go, this isn't the most original or mind blowing... but it's attractive, offers a good range of food and is reasonably priced. As a solo traveller on business, I actually found myself coming back here three times to try different places. On the first visit I tried the currywurst stand (natürlich!). Sausage was tasty, sauce was great and the fries were so so. I thought it was a bit overpriced - same quality as you'd find from a good street vendor, but a higher price. On the second night I went Korean and tried bibimbap. This wasn't served in the traditional bowl, but what I got was absolutely fantastic. Super tasty, really good value. On my third and final trip I went for ramen. This was nice, but not up there with what you'd find in Tokyo. It was a good hearty and filling meal though. I suppose this place is a little style over substance. It looks great, and of course the setting in Bikini Berlin is superb. There are other outlets to try plus a bar. I was undecided about whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. It's not the best food hall you'll find, but it's a great addition to this corner of Berlin and a boon for solo travellers dining alone.

Mall fast food usually is a desperation act for me, but man oh man I am a sucker for Indian food…read more Bombay Xpress as you have probably guessed by now is located in the Mall of Berlin on the top floor in the food court. There are many ethnic food choices to choose from, but honestly Bombay Xpress looked and smelled good. The gentleman behind the counter kindly guided me through what they offered, basically your average mainstay meals most are accustomed to when visiting Indian restaurants. I opted for the chicken tikka masala with a side of roti and butter. Prices of course are very attractable being a food court in a mall, so do not expect to break the bank on this one. Seating is ample as well, so no need for having a friend of partner reserve one while you get the goods. Onto the food, I'd easily rate it a 6.5/10, chicken tikka masala was quite creamy with a strong curry flavor. Chicken cubes were a tad chewy, but hey you get what you pay for, right? As for the roti, who hates any type of dough bathed in butter? Well worth the quick stop in the end to re fuel for the day and would gladly come back if I were in the area and needed some fast food service.

You have to pay upfront, so when we see that he is not giving back the right amount, we ask for cancellation and he doesn't want to cancel nor give back the money...pretending they have already started cooking whereas everything is already ready and they are only warming up stuff... So at the end, we take our meal, the chicken was super dry and the sauce had nothing to do with tikka sause except the spicy side... Instead of this horrible place, if you like indian food, just go to Amrit restaurant: wonderful service, very polite, amazing food and then at the end you are happy to leave a tip instead of being robbed from the beginning.

The range of shops here is okay, albeit I found it to be quite poor for a mall of its' size, there was actually only a small number of brands I was familiar with, as I'm from the UK. These included Build a bear workshop, O2, JD Sports etc. There was a few large stores such as H and M, but a good number of the stores were quite small including JD Sports. Other brands for dining included Subway, Mcdonald's and Subway, the Food Court was so small however I wouldn't even call it a food court, just a small section on the third floor with a few places to grab some fast food, the Starbucks is located on the second floor, or basically the one below the food court. There wasn't a lot of maps or staff around the mall either to ask for assistance, I did notice a store plan near one of the lifts but that was pretty much it, the mall did have a good amount of lifts however which I normally find is the opposite in most major malls in the UK including Manchester Arndale, intu Trafford Centre and intu Metrocentre. Due to reasons mentioned above, mainly down to the feel of Alexa, very few places to eat, the mall being a little hard to navigate without a huge number of big names, I sadly only feel it deserves a two star rating.

The sad story of my tragic, no good, perfectly awful morning, and how McDonald's made it better…read more I have been sick for almost 30 days. What started as a cold, turned into a sinus infection and I took a ten day regimen of antibiotics, which finally worked. But it was short lived. I left last Wednesday from my home of L.A., and wasn't even off the plane before I realized I was relapsing. 'But maybe it's just a cold,' I thought optimistically, 'I might have gotten sick at the airport.' Hah! Now, on the 6th day of agony, I woke up this morning coughing out my lungs, and a very peculiar white cloudy mucous into the sink. Yeah, pretty sure I relapsed. I spent the morning googling how to go to a doctor in Germany, and what the insurance process was, etc. luckily, there is a doctor across from my hotel. Unluckily, it gets worse from there. I go to the doctor, almost an hour wait. She is very very kind. She adds bronchitis to my list of ailments. Gives me a prescription for antibiotics. Cool. I walk half a mile to the nearest pharmacy (I could find). Half a mile when you are walking with bronchitis, a low fever, and a sinus infection seems so much longer than just ten minutes in the cold. I walk in, relief finally in sight after days of enjoying the hotels bed and literally nothing else because I am too weak to walk or stand for long periods. I hand the lady my prescription.... it's not signed. They can't fill it. The walk back to the doctor was a sad one. I will continue to pretend I had sinus pressure behind my eyes causing my tears, but it was a hard, hard morning. Of course, everyone in Germany is super nice and they are so sorry there was no signature, I get the signature and make the trek back... again. I finally arrive and get my medicine 'to take with a meal.' It's hard here to find a meal because a lot of the sandwiches are premade, and I am allergic to tons of seeds, vegetables, nuts, etc. so I decide I will go find a McDonald's, since I know that is a safe food and then I can take my antibiotics and start feeling better. I go to the nearest McDonald's, about a mile away, every step paining me, my slow progress the dismay of the honking cars in the intersection, but frankly, I can't move any faster. I trudge along, and finally I make it, only to find no breakfast menu in sight... thanks alexanderplatz, but a burger in the morning is a great way to ensure my continued pain. I walk down the station, desperate to find a simple egg and cheese sandwich! Dunkin' Donuts! Yes, they must have one! And there, gleaming like a beacon is a beautiful picture of a plain bagel with egg, cheese, and bacon, the perfect, safe sandwich. I order happily, forking over a really pricey amount of money with joy as I dream about a warm egg sandwich along with my antibiotics. He hands the sandwich to me. It is covered in seeds. The tears stinging my eyes this time are real. I am allergic to seeds. I cry a bit in a corner, I'll admit it I was just really, really tired. Fine, well, I'll use the restroom in the warm Alexa mall, and go to the hotel and figure out what to do. I check the food court in the way in, at 10:28. Hallelujah! There it is! The egg mcmuffin!! She's on the menu gleaming like my last thread of hope and I almost cry because I am so happy to finally eat and start to feel better! I order my mcmuffin, and as I sit down, they turn the menu to lunch. I had miraculously caught them no more than two minutes before the menu swap, and I may or may not have shed a tear of happiness. It was the best damn egg mcmuffin I have ever had in my life. And the prescription pills work much better than the over the counters I was taking for what I thought was a cold. Thank you McDonald's at Alexa, for having my mcmuffin available just in time, and allowing me to start on the road to recovery after so many things blocked my way this morning and week. I'll always remember this McDonald's as the best.
