They have fun events including listening parties for new albums and do a great job with record store day. Their record store days throughout the years have been fun. You've just got to be patient and look for it!

A…read morefriend of mine discovered this record shop and I though how cool they have used and vintage items for sale to discovering they had a fantastic selection of an artist I really love, but I still can't get it out of my head how dry and rude the staff can be. I dealt with this specfic man with a beard, with muscular body figure, looks like he goes to the gym, and he came off really rude when he told me to stop for a brief moment, signaling me to wait so he can walk further away from me. I understand the shop can be very small however, it was not needed. I played it off but I was indeed embarassed and still purchased something from the store. That moment was back in August. Now in September I called in to ask for a specific item and I was told the item was available after months of searching it in person, sounded like the same person because I memorized his voice. Thankfully he was not there when I arrived to pick up, but there was another staff, very mellow and also not approachable. I got up went inside cause at the end of the day this business is taking my money. In conclusion the staff need to do a better job at being friendly and not be so bothered when asked a question. I don't know if it because I look different from everyone else, I always feel uncomfortable to go inside. Happy with my item, not so happy with the atmosphere and customer service.

I loved there is a free little pantry in the corridor as you enter. Take what you need, leave what you can! You are able to bring in donations of kitchen wares and gently used clothing, accessories, and shoes for 30% off purchases. You are given a rewards card and on your 6th donation, you can get $10 off your purchase. As soon as I walked in a pair of union at olive colored pants caught my eye. They fit perfectly! As I checked out I was informed pants were 30% off. I got a perfect pair of labra for just over $6. What a wonderful value. I was so happy and felt great! We loved the bright, fun atmosphere and will absolutely be back to bring in donations. 5 stars!

We picked up some German beer steins, some egg coddlers, a book and a few other odds and ends, all at reasonable prices. Yes, some things seemed overpriced but most were fair. It makes for a nice date to grab a coffee then spend a few hours browsing. The staff are always super friendly and very helpful. There is a lot of great stuff in here but unfortunately the vast majority or sellers are charging way way too much. Some sellers are reasonable but most seem to be price gouging. I mean we are talking like $900 for a rocking chair that is broken as an example. If folks were willing to pay these prices they would just buy new. I have managed to find some reasonably priced items of clothing and furniture, but often found that if I found something I kind of liked, I never liked it enough to pay the asking price. It's clear that others feel the same as many of the booths had all of the same exact items they had 3 months ago. Most need to bring their prices down by 30-50% tbh. I have enjoyed window shopping here but probably will go elsewhere from here on out.

Grails is a record shop and cultural music emporium that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in…read moreOctober 2025. It was founded by King Kenney. The arts advocate previously worked as a music journalist, DJ, painter, and marketing executive for Long Wharf Theatre. Kenney, who has a personal record collection of about 10,000 titles, had an idea to open a record store that emphasizes the wonder that comes along with discovering vinyl records. The shop offers a wide variety of different genres that can appeal to the most particular of music enthusiasts. Grails is a space where music, culture, and connection thrive. I recently stopped at Grails with my older son while we were both in downtown New Haven. I had read about the shop's grand opening in a local publication a few months back, and was looking for an excuse to stop in. The opening of Grails marks the first time that downtown New Haven has had a record shop since Cutler's Records closed in 2012 after 64 years of business. Grails seemed like a really chill place. More than a record shop, it seems like a place where anyone can just stop in talk about music all day. In addition to vinyl records, Grails also sells cassette tapes, turntables and stereo systems, apparel, and other various music merchandise. One thing you absolutely won't find are CDs, which Kenney is adamant about not selling. After looking over the record bins, I finally picked out a 50th anniversary edition reissue of Queen's classic album "A Night at the Opera" to add to my record collection. I'm sure that I'll enjoy spinning it on my turntable. It's nice to final have a record shop back in the Elm City. I hope to be back again and again!
