Where have you been all our lives…read more All this time in our city and only in the last year or so have we found this place - probably just as well that we have not as our bank account would have been severely tasered for a lot longer as we invariably leave holding a purchase. This is a supremely well curated store that carries Comme des Garcons, Dries, Anne Demeulemeester, and Junya among others. Their website does not do the selection in the store any justice - probably at least 60-70% larger - and you are better off visiting in person and placing yourself in the capable hands of the staff who will make sure you walk out significantly less Brooks Brothers/Jcrew-dorky than when you walked in. They will probably take umbrage with this, but we feel like the selection for the ladies has been more interesting - all the better, as the significant other should always be seen wearing beautiful things.

Don't waste your time on this place. I could not decide whether the clothes were just really old…read morestore overstock items or actual used thrift items. Everything was 50% off (though I get the feeling that it's 50% all the time, so why not just lower the prices?). Clothes were priced at $8-$15 (so really half of that $4-$7ish). Clothes were from like the 90s styles (which is too recent for retro and too old for cool). I didn't check out the upstairs mens, but I have a feeling it would have been more of the same. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the jewelry was reasonably priced ($1 bracelets) and somewhat interesting though I didn't buy anything. Lastly, the staff was unprofessional and their conversations with each other in front of customers was appalling. Let's just say save the locker room talk for the back room. Overall, the place is classless and drab. There's probably a gem if you dig through every single item, but not worth the time IMO.

The owner is very impolite. No trying is possible and there is no clear signature in this shop…read moresaying that it is not allowed. No trying idea is very bad and likely comes from a strange idea that I have time to give back a cloth if its bad. No! I come to a shop to first try and then buy if it fits well and this is very obvious in Europe but seems not to be very obvious in NYC.. Sad, and at least strange, because I will not buy any cloth without first trying it. If there is a bad law than CHANGE IT...

Daring patterns, funky designs, flattering cuts for curves, variation - skirts, mini skirts, jumpsuits, business suits, business casual, formal wear, whimsical wear -- just about any occasion you can find here. And as the name implies, it is focused on plus sizes although they do have a good selection of accessories too - hats, sunglasses, jewelry, purses, bags, belts etc. Also the fans in the fitting rooms! What a marvelous idea! Why don't more places do this? PLEASE, more places DO this. The staff were friendly, engaging, and very helpful and I found the prices to be fair. I got a blazer and two pairs of pants for about $80.

They also have a featured designer rack in the back of the store near the fitting rooms. The one that they had when my bestie and I went was extremely expensive. She designed luxurious coats and wraps. One of the wrap vests looked super cute on me, but it was too expensive and there was no label as to what material was used. It did feel like polyester, however. The people who worked there were very kind and helpful and patient. Happy shops!

Martine's Dream has been a go to boutique for many years. I was at an event at the BK Museum and…read moresaw a guy wearing this beautiful print. Later that night I ran into him with mutual friends and inquired. That was the beginning of my friendship with George (S.I.P) and with the store. Upon arrival I was met by this stunning black woman wearing a huge smile and draped in an ensemble of prints and textures. Everything she was wearing were from her store and I wanted all of them- but I couldn't afford it so I bought one piece; the classic Nikki dress in yellow. That summer I wore that dress at least 10 times and every time I did, I'd get a million compliments. Debbie had a sale and ran to get more pieces namely the Audra Kimono and another Nikki dress in print. A year later, Debbie had a stall at BAM Dance Africa and I grabbed a couple more pieces. Folks would pile into the shop everyday to stop and chat with Debbie, purchase signature kimonos, dresses, tunics of the brightest, boldest prints, catch a vibe when the DJ was there on weekends or simply just to hang out. It was that neighborhood spot. We had many friends in common and so it was always fun to spot each other #martinedreaming As the store closes and Debbie transitions to the next leg of her journey; I wish her nothing but the best and know that her and this shop will continue to evoke joy whenever I see someone wearing her pieces and is reminded of how much of gem this post was.

Ex. I just bought a great New Year's eve dress -- black lace -- that I can multi-task into the summer for under $100. 2. Items are unique -- you won't be walking around in something everyone else is wearing. 3. It's like visiting your sister's closet. The store is small and the owner is a true fashionista. He'll pull things off the rack for you to try and pretty soon you feel like you're shopping with a friend, and having fun doing it. 4. No pressure. I hate feeling pressured, but when I come here I know if I don't love it then I won't get the sales pitch. Alan wants you to love what you buy, which is probably why I keep coming back.
