The inside appears to have been recently updated and renovated. On one side is the restaurant, the other is a tasting room, and the distilling in the in middle. We came in for lunch. Started out with old fashions which were spot in, ended up having two. For lunch it was the standard American fare. We had some lighter options like salads and shared plates. The food overall was good, but not extraordinary. Service could have been a little more attentive however. After lunch, we headed to the tasting room. The standard tasting was $16 which seemed to be quite reasonable. Some of the tastings are 90-100 proof, so be ready for that. Also picked up some T-shirts. We would have picked up a bottle, but because of TSA you would have to put it in a checked bag. We did end up picking up a bottle at the Nashville airport after security, but the cost is about 30% more. They indicated that you can order online and have it shipped. Looks like they do tours, but we did not have the time on this day. Definitely a stop if you are a whiskey drinker and in the Clarksville area.

Our most recent visit was a take-out. We had the Bacon Wrapped Dates, one of our favorite dishes for many years, since we first had them at a tapas restaurant. This version is different from most we've had, in that the dates are stuffed with Manchego cheese, which we think is a very nice improvement. My wife ordered the French Onion Soup, which we both thought was really tasty. Even as a to-go item, it had a great tasting broth, good bread layer, and generous amount of cheese melted on top. I ordered the Caprese Salad. The Mozzarella was beautiful. I am hopeful that as we get into tomato season, they'll look at using some local / heirloom tomatoes, though these were acceptable. I don't recall any other place that had the addition of pesto, and I really liked this addition to the balsamic glaze that is typical of a Caprese Salad. For a "main", my wife had the patty melt, which was quite good. I had the Bleu & Red Burger (for the 2nd time), which I really enjoyed. (For me, it could have been a bit spicier with a little more sriracha.) Each of our sandwiches came with a side, which defaults to French Fries. My wife swapped for a Side Salad for a $2 upcharge, which she liked quite well. Since I already had the Caprese Salad, I swapped for a Baked Potato (with butter and sour cream) that was cooked perfectly. I should comment on why we swapped out the fries. Cap's joins nearly everyone else in Clarksville at not knowing how to make crispy fries, even after crispy fries are requested. Anyway, we'll continue eating here. And if they ever mention to me that they've learned how to make crispy fries, I'll try them again.

My first thought when we walked in was that the restaurant must be busy all the time, and the tips good, because they had several servers whizzing around taking care of their customers. Good beer and drinks are a given (several house brews), but the food was amazing. We ordered fried green tomatoes (pimento cheese on top) and roasted brussel sprouts, so we could nibble as we drank. Then for dinner: the prime rib au jus sandwich, the Reuben, the Patty Melt, and the Cletus (Southern through and through). Our Toddler ordered the baked Mac N Cheese (good sized serving and looked delicious--lots of cheese and perfectly browned--and a side of fruit). Everyone was happy!

I had a couple of hours to kill before a tattoo appointment across the street (reviewed separately)…read moreso I stopped here for lunch. It was very busy around 12:30 mid-day, but I was seated immediately. There is downstairs and an upstairs that looks over the first floor. They have a huge menu. Lots of pub fare. Beer cheese, nachos, various pizzas (tons of combinations, most with lots of meat, and you can create your own). They also have flatbreads (again, several combos, some veggie, some meaty). Entrees include steaks, pork chops, grilled chicken, chicken tenders, salmon, and shrimp tacos. Large selection of sandwiches (turkey, clubs, BLT, reuben, prime rib). And at least 10 different types of burgers. I had the cowboy, made with Monterey Jack, bacon, sautéed onions, mushroom, lettuce, tomato, and pickle). Huge burger (I only ate half). The fries were hot and tasty. The burger arrived medium as I had ordered and the produce seemed fresh. The mushroom and onion flavors were lost somehow, and the burger could have used a little more seasoning, but overall solid for being local to Clarksville. I had a couple of cocktails, some type of margarita with cranberry, and a basic mule. They were fine, but nothing special and nothing I would order again. They have a ton of beers here, and that's what they are known for, so if you're a beer drinker, that's your best bet. They have brunch on the weekends. My server was attentive and kind.

Howdy folks. How's everyone on Planet Yelp doing? Well, I'm not quite sure how to even begin this…read morereview as I wasn't even sure if the place that I'm going to write about even existed anymore. I'm talking about the good ol' American country roadside bar. So put on your helmets and strap on your safety belts cuz we're about to blast off and head into the deep south. I was actually in Tennessee visiting a friend of mine, fellow 1st Amendment Activist Silent Citizen. For whatever reason we decided to drive to Kentucky and ended up in a little town called Scottsville. Unbeknownst to us, we were actually in a dry county. So unable to find a bar there, we headed back towards Tennessee and that's when we discovered the Sugar Grove Tavern in Westermoreland. If we hadn't of been paying attention we probably would have missed it. It's located just a little more than a minute beyond the state line and I ain't joking when I say that this is about as backwoods and rednecky as it gets. So let me tell you all about it right now. From the outside the Sugar Grove Tavern reminded me of that biker bar in Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure. That's the scene where Pee Wee Herman entertains this motorcycle gang by dancing to the song "Tequila." That's exactly what this place reminded me of. Although I didn't have any plans of doing any dancing here. The first thing I noticed when walking inside was an array of Confederate flags hanging from the ceiling. See I told you this place was rednecky. That really didn't bother me. After all, I was a huge fan of the television show The Dukes Of Hazzard growing up. So if you can be a fan of the TV show where the main characters drive a car called the General Lee that sports a Confederate flag painted on the roof, then who really cares. I mean after all, we ain't in Yankeeland anymore. So Silent Citizen and I walk up to the bar where we are greeted by the bartender. She wasn't Daisy Duke. But she was a nice country gal none the less. I planned on going with my usual, which is a margarita on the rocks. But unfortunately I was informed that they don't serve hard liquor in this place. Oh darn it. I guess no margaritas for Nasty Nathanial tonight. So I ended up going with the next best thing. A Seagram's Escape Pina Colada flavor. What a manly drink. After paying for a drinks, we decide to go outside and admire the scenery. We ended up making friends with some of the locals, which included a dog named Bruce, who were hanging out on this cool Friday night. That's when I knew that I had really landed my rear on another planet. Everything from the way these local country boys talked to the things that they were talking about, was so different and foreign to me. But I don't mean that in a bad way. They were all super nice and welcoming and treated us as if we were one of the good ol' boys. One of them was this heavyset guy with a hat and a beard who reminded me of Cooter from The Dukes Of Hazzard. Yes I loved watching that show. But this guy really did remind me of Cooter. He was going on about all the women he gets which I had my doubts about. But hey, it's not like I've been on a roll in the men's department lately if you know what I mean. Wink, wink. So what do I know? At one point, I started to mention something to my friend about my latest flame, Silence Boy 1st Amendment. That's when he had to quickly remind me that if we were going to be talking about those kind of things, we would probably have to get step to steppin' soon. I decided to take my friends advice and put Silence Boy back in the closet of my mind. But eventually we would have to get to steppin' and get back on the road. I was almost kind of sad to leave. I know some of you reading this may think that I'm being facetious. But I really did dig this place. Even though it was backwards and rednecky, the people here really did seem genuinely happy and seeing that brought me back to a different point in my life. At least in my mind. That, or maybe it was the Seagrams. Well, I don't think so. Those things aren't that strong. So I think I'm going to wrap this review up by saying that if you ever find yourself in Westermoreland, Tennessee and want to have you a cold one before you hit that dry county across the state line, I suggest you check out the Sugar Grove Tavern. You won't be disappointed. If you are, then get to steppin' over to Kid Rick's overpriced crappy bar in Nashville. Until next time, may the country be country and the bar serve margaritas.
