Called today about buying a riding lawn mower, and they would not even deliver to North Ridgeville. So I guess they don't need 3,000.00 worth of business. This is why people don't support local businesses anymore and end up going to the large box stores. I am happy the people giving 5 stars were able to avoid issues with these guys. I have had several issues with them and finally will no longer be using them after my most recent episode... In early Spring I fired up my pressure washer. Motor ran fine, but there was an issue with the "pump" resulting in not being able to spray water. I took a day off work to get it to them, and they had it "fixed" within a few days. All was good...until I actually went to use it. I could no longer get it started (eventhough the engine worked prior to my taking it in). I asked them if they actually start the units after they "fix" them and they told me they did. Anyone that knows anything about pressure washers knows that you cannot run them without being connected to a water source, or the motor will seize. So, I am guessing they didn't want to go through the trouble of actually hooking to a water source and ended up ruining my $450 pressure washer. Funny part? They still charged me for "fixing" it. Yes, they will tell you that they didn't run the engine long enough to ruin it. Of course they are going to say that. All I can tell you is it worked before they got it and not when I got it back. I talked to a manager and he didn't seem all that sorry about it. Cost me $450 but I finally learned my lesson with these guys. They don't care. I have searched and searched for a place to buy a quality used lawn tractor. I came across state sharpening while doing a google search and looked at their site. I had some questions so called and talked to a very nice and helpful woman on the phone. Later that afternoon I drove up to see some of the tractors they had. I was a little intimidated because I know nothing about lawn tractors. But the sales staff was very nice and helpful in teaching me about the different tractors and how to use them. They pointed my in the direction of what would work best for me, and even discounted the tractor (side note: they have the BEST prices around ). When I was rung up I paid in cash and card. They accidentally charged my card the full amount and took the cash, when they gave me my receipt I did not notice the mistake and they helped load the tractor into my truck. When I got home, I unloaded the tractor and took it for a spin around the yard. It ran great!! I am so happy with the purchase. The next morning I got a call from the store and they alerted me of the mistake in over charging me and wanted to let me know they refunded the amount that I paid in cash back to my card. I would have never realized the mistake and would have been out a couple hundred. But state Sharpening is a good company with honest people that are looking out for the customer. Bought a new lawnmower for $1300 in May from State Sharpening. After normal weekly usage through December (7 months) the battery died and would not take a charge. A battery should last longer than 7 months and it had never even experienced a winter while in my possession. I suspect the lawnmower may have been in State Sharpening's inventory for a period of time before I purchased it, so maybe the battery was not really very new. I was hoping to get either a warranty or a discount on a replacement battery. Instead, they said they would charge the battery for 24 hours and it would cost me $3.00. I had already tried recharging the battery and had told them that it did not work and it was completely dead as they confirmed. I asked if they really needed $3.00 to try to charge my battery, and the answer was yes. They were not going to do this as a courtesy and it was $3.00 to "try" to charge it. I guess when you buy something this expensive and you experience a problem that you should not then you expect some considerations, and they actually wanted $3.00 to charge a battery! I've been to State Sharpening 5 times in the past 4 years and every time I leave I know why I never take any of my equipment there. Horrible customer service, arrogant employees who do not value going above and beyond. I live less than a mile away and would rather drive an extra 20 minutes to a shop that values their customers needs. How this shop stays open is beyond my comprehension. On Friday my steering Draglink on my Craftsman DLT2000 tractor failed. I called around for repair suggestions. Manager Lori at the Royalton Ace suggested State Sharpening. I ordered the part from them over the phone on Friday 9-20-19 exactly describing the part. I gave the tractor model number 917272246. I accurately described the part as a draglink from the left wheel linkage back to steering column linkage. In other words a part that goes from front to back and NOT from side to side. I described how I could get to the rear bolt of the part by turning the steering wheel and accessing the bolt through a hole in the left side of the frame. I described the ball joints ... I am told that they only saw one steering part with ball joints in their photo. They immediately charge my card for $70.14 .... sales says $4.95 is for shipping. Part would be in early the next week I am told. I call Monday 9-23-19 and asked for tracking and an ETA. I am rudely told that part is not in and THEY would call me. Mike would not give me an exact ETA or the tracking number. Part would be in by Tuesday to Wednesday according to Mike. I don't get a call until Thursday 9:33 in the morning. I go to pick up the part and bring my part with me. Apparently they missed that there are two parts of the steering assembly that have ball joints not one as they thought. The correct part as I described went from front to back. They ordered the wrong part - the part they ordered went from side to side. They had ordered the lawn tractor tie rod which does NOT go from the front left wheel back to the steering column. Mike tells me that he can only refund me $60. I am responsible for the $10 shipping. Interesting how shipping went from $4.95 to $10.00. They took no responsibility for ordering the wrong part. As I promised them I will be taking them to small claims court if I am unable to resolve this through a chargeback, the BBB and the Attorney General's office. I received no paperwork and signed no invoice. They made no effort to mail or email me an invoice. Had I gone through Amazon in the first place I would have had the exact same part on Monday 9-23-19 for only $37. I spoke with Lori at Ace and gave her the details of the transaction. She was appalled. I suggested instead that they consider recommending Eversharp. Summary ... from my horrible experience with State Sharpening my opinion of them is that they are rude, incompetent and dishonest. Five days waiting for an overpriced incorrect part only to be charged for their error. Not going to happen! read more

Very poor service. I called State Sharpening to check for availability of a SC 900 Cub Cadet mower because of COVID 19 disruptions in manufacturing. I was assured there was 1 mower left in stock. The staff member checked their inventory in computer system and then checked store room to make sure 1 was available. There was only 1 mower left. I was assured the mower would be there when I arrived. The staff member didn't think it was necessary for me to leave my name. Also told me they don't take payment over the phone. When I arrived, 2 hours after phone call, I was told there was no Cub Cadet SC 900 mower available listed in the computer inventory. When the staff member checked stock room, I was told the mower was there with a sold note on it for someone else. read more

I've been going to state sharpening for years and had no problems with great service from the knowledgeable young woman at the service counter. The staff and service has changed. I bought a spark plug from them that didn't work. When I tried to get a refund after telling the kid behind the counter that the old plug still works but the "new" one doesn't he said no and was backed up by some guy from the back. The guy from the back then raised his voice and told me the plug was used, works fine and my machine was the problem and reaffirmed that there would be no refund given. Save yourself some time and aggravation. Shop somewhere else. read more
