You could tell the passion and family like atmosphere at J Henry. Our tour guide was Elista. The history and background was so interesting, it gave us a tremendous appreciation for their craft. The tasting at the end was so much fun, again, we learned so much about their brand. We then headed to the bar to continue. Next time we will take more time to try the bistro. We became fans of their bourbon and we will be back.

Ridiculous... - there are a few other good spirits that hail from our lovely Wisco... Death's Door being one of them. I've always found their vodka to be clean, their gin to be round and delightful, and their white whisky? Well, I can't speak to that, cause I've not had it. (I'm sort of leery of clear whisk(e)ies. Not sure why... just doesn't seem right.) At any rate, I think their gin may be my favorite. GLD gin is my absolute favorite, but Death's Door is super solid, too. Juniper, coriander, and fennel, w/out being transparent about it. It's nice and balanced and like I said, round. Approachable. Words that describe things that are good... add more of them here. We just sat at the bar but would definitely go back for a game event. Awildan did not appear to offer food, but some other patrons brought in their own snacks which I like about a small place, especially during an event like the board game event. While sitting at the bar, we were able to chat with the owner. He shared his story as well as his plans for growth of the business. He works with other businesses in the area which is always great to hear. Shortly before we were ready to leave, a couple came in and didn't seem to really know what they wanted. The owner did a great job of describing the liquor options, making cocktail recommendations, and then ultimately went off menu to make cocktails they would like. This week we enjoyed their Wollersheim Bistro Wine Cellar Dinner for the first time. Wow! Held in the hallway at the head of their wine caves, circa 1850s, the setting is so unique with attendance limited. Cocktails / wine before, hors d'oeuvres, four course dinner with paired wine each round. Chef Romain and the knowledgeable servers were attentive, ensuring everyone's enjoyable time. They made for a sensational setting and experience. Their intent is to do this monthly or every two months. We are certainly looking forward to the next event, and will be visiting sooner to replenish our own bar!
